Canis Major is my favorite constellation because I love dogs. I have currently have three Labrador Retrievers. Canis Major means "Greater Dog" in Latin. He is often represented with Canis Minor (Lesser Dog) and both are following Orion (The Hunter). Canis Major is located in the southern celestial hemisphere.
Mythologists say that the constellation represents Laelaps, a dog so fast that no prey could outrun it. This dog had a long list of owners. The most likely version says that he was given by Zeus to Europa, whose son Minos, gave him to Procris. The dog was given to her along with a javelin that could never miss.
Cephalus inherited the dog, and took it with him to Thebes, a town in Boeotia, where a fox

He is owned by Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt. Artemis takes him on many, many hunts with her. He was her most favorite hunting dog. He was always at the head of the pack, always cornered whatever she was hunting first, and would oftentimes bring down the beast himself. One day, while Artemis was resting, her handmaidens decided to play a game. They were supposed to be watching the dogs, especially Canis Major (since he was prone to beginning a hunt on his own), but were lax in their duties. Canis Major escaped and began chasing a deer. When Artemis awoke, and heard of her handmaidens failure, she immediately set of to find her most favored dog. When she came upon him, he was feasting on the deer that he had run down. Now, we all know deer are favored by Artemis and never hunted, so this angered her. She knew it was not the dogs fault, so instead of taking his life she told him to run as fast as he could and go as far away as he could. Though this saddened him, he knew he must follow her orders, so he started running. Canis Major ran so fast and so far that he ended up in the night sky as the constellation we know today. He now follows a different hunter, Orion, and has a little brother (Canis Minor) to keep him company on their nightly

The constellation was named after Princess Andromeda, also known as "The Chained Woman" - wich is, too, the nickname of the own constellation -. Andromeda was known for her beauty, and her mom one day claimed that she was even more beautiful then the Nereids, a particularly alluring group of sea nymphs. The Nereids were outraged by the affirmation and decided to ask Poseidon, the God of The Seas to give her a lesson. Poseidon then send a monster to destroy Andomedra's father's territory, and Andomedra decided to sacrifice herself to pay for the sins of her mother, and then was given chained to Poseidon to die. The story goes on, and it ends with Perseus - the son of Poseidon - saving her, but that's the bit that named the constellation.
The handsome giant Orion was a companion of the goddess but her jealous brother Apollon tricked her into killing him with a distant bow-shot. In her grief Artemis placed him amongst the stars as the constellation Orion.<>

Our culture is very unique in its own way. Our culture is the “Canos”, which is short for volcanoes. They used to live in a spacecraft that crashed on the island they reside on now. The canos live on a tropical island in the middle of the ocean and they live inside an active volcano. They only speak spanglish, which is english and spanish put together. Every person in this culture can only grow up to four feet. Most of them average about 3’6 inches in height, and have a lifespan of up to ten years. Their skin is made of tiny lava rocks and they have orange eyes. Just like any other culture this one has rules and regulations, such as sneezing. If you sneeze that is shunned. It’s looked at as a sign of disrespect, especially if you’re eating
Only Canisius College, can offer me the requirements I need; which are both knowledge and rigor. Since the start of my academic career, from grammar school to even now in my final year of high school, my motivation for continuing is my interest in learning. For me, it was the knowledge I had acquired from my classes and the rigor to test both my physical and academic capabilities.
I choose to discuss the constellation Draco, or "The Dragon." I choose this constellation because a dragon is perhaps my most beloved and favorite creature of all time, magical or not. This constellation was also featured in my favorite movie of all time, "Dragonheart." Draco was just one of the constellations listed by Ptolemy, a 2nd century astronomer and it is circumpolar, or never setting. Draco consists of fourteen main stars, with its brightest star being y Dra. The constellations lies near Hercules and Ursa Major, in the North.
Canis Major can be seen at latitudes somewhat between +90° and -75° It is visible in the Northern Hemisphere from December through March, and visible in the Southern Hemisphere between November and April. Canis Major is being bordered by Monoceros and so as Canis Minor. It is near Orion.
There are millions upon millions of stars that light up the night sky. Some of these stars are grouped together in a way that creates a shape or figure; these shapes have been studied for thousands of years by people all around the world. Some civilizations have even dedicated stories to these figures in the sky; most of these shapes or constellations have their origins in Greek and Roman mythology. The constellation I chose as my favorite is Taurus, the bull. While Taurus is one of the constellations featured in the zodiac, my reasons for choosing it as my favorite constellation are not in relation to the story of Zeus and Europa; I chose Taurus because the Pleiades or "Seven Sisters" (a star cluster) are located inside of the constellation.
Orion is known for its strength, stamina and durability. They called Orion’s dog a dog of war because he dedicated his life to protecting the universe. (“Orion mythology”) Orion was a part of many myths. One of the myths he was a part of was the Odyssey, where he visited the island of Chios
My favorite constellation by far is the Gemini constellation. The Gemini constellation is my favorite because my star sign is Gemini. And it is fairly easy to spot in the night sky, although the best viewing month is in February.
In Greek mythology, the constellation represents a number of legendary swans. Zeus disguised himself as a swan to rape Leda, which gave birth to the twins Castor and Pollux, the Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. Orpheus turned into a swan after his murder, and was told that his place in the sky next to his harp. Finally,
There are numerous versions of the myth of Orion, but one of the more common
Scorpius has three major stars, Dschubba, Antares, and Shaula. The star Antares is tied with Gacrux as being the 24th brightest star in the sky. According to the Greek mythology, the constellation has to do with the death of Orion, a hunter. Orion wanted to assassinate all the animals on the earth. However, an earth goddess named Gaia was against Orion’s plan. So, she sent a massive scorpion to attack Orion. The scorpion was brawny and regardless of how hard he tried, Orion couldn’t kill him. The scorpion stung him and Orion died trying to escape the scorpion. Because Scorpius fulfilled his mission, Gaia put the scorpion’s image in the sky as an award for his battle. Some believe that still today it looks like the scorpion is chasing Orion.
I chose the constellation Pisces as my favourite constellation. Pisces is my zodiac sign and so I fell I resonate with Pisces more so than any other constellations. Pisces means "the fish" in Latin and was originally found by Greek astronomer Ptolemy. Pisces lies between two other Zodiac constellations, Aries and Aquarius. Pisces is the 14th largest constellation in size and is located in the first quadrant of the northern hemisphere.
