Education is a contested field of study because its purpose relates to associated political implications of either providing curriculum that critiques and analyzes history of the Americas, or, that which emphasizes and promotes a support of the American meritocracy and the righteousness of a representative democracy. Paulo Freire (2000) made the distinction that education is a combative arena, and that there are many different arguments jockeying for power. As a result of the contention, student-centered decisions are not always made and oftentimes the decisions are ones that benefit the political arena far more than the religious or social one.

WHAT IS RESEARCH? It is a planned process whereby information is collected for a specific purpose, analysed and reported.

According to Depoy and Gittin, research is a way individuals think about problems in systematic way. Research is generally described as description, exploration, analysis, prediction and problem solving. There are different types of research and these researches are called the experiments, quasi-experiments and non-experiments. The purpose of research is to provide the insight to practice, it also enhance individuals understanding as well as developing new approaches with different topics, get to test your research for effectiveness. Understanding research is important because it helps to build individuals knowledge bases and informs decision making in practice. Research also enable us to make sure that our practice are up to date with relevant information.

A project according to Capella University is the Capstone project. The project for the Doctor of Education degree was developed to reflect the longstanding vision and mission of the university to be a leader in helping higher education remain relevant, responsive, and rewarding. The project is required for all new learners, recommended for those currently enrolled in the 8300 series of education courses, and optional for all others. The project enables learners to demonstrate scholarship within a specialization through systematic inquiry that may or may not apply the scientific method for the purpose of conducting a research study to find solutions to problems encountered in practice.

When you think about research, it could be thought of as a process. A process can be defined as a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. The process in research is important because research takes time and consideration. As you conduct research, you may gain a deeper insight that could be gained gradually and modifications can be made or changed over time (Ghauri and Gronhaug, 2010). Research allows us to better understand what is unknown, how a human thinks, why a dog barks when they hear a stranger approaching or that the earth is round and not flat. Research allows us to find answers to the questions we have. Research attempts to both understand and define. There are three kinds of research; Explanatory; Exploratory and Descriptive research. Explanatory, Exploratory and Descriptive research define what research is; Research is the attempt to explain, explore and describe (Neuman, 2006, 24).

Based on my prior knowledge and this week’s resource, I see a little clear why action research can help me address the needs of my students better. This week I have learned the difference between action research/teacher inquiry and education traditional research. Also, I have learned the relationship between action research and teacher professional growth and decision making. Last, I have been able to see what teacher inquiry/action research look like, how they are similar and different.

For our capstone project, our group will be focusing on the examination and analysis of the newest version of the Android operating system, 8.0 or Android oreo. The ultimate goal of the project is to create a well documented and detailed source of information for forensic investigators examining Android devices running Android 8.0. Currently, there is very little forensic information about the newest version of Android, especially in terms of the newest features such as now playing, instant apps, among many others. The paper herein details a reflection describing my current professional journey before enrolling in the doctor of education program at Capella University. The paper further details how the doctor of education degree will serve me in my professional life. The reflection will apply the novice to expert continuum as presented in the University. Currently, my professional work is empowerment also known as social coaching. I completed my master of leadership degree from Walden University before enrolling for a doctor of education program at Capella University.

The capstone project was not implemented this semester due to the timing of clinical rotations, however, the project was presented to the clinical coordinator for the WKU BSN program. Research is a form of systematic inquiry. It sets out to answer questions through assessing, summarizing and drawing conclusions from what are often very large amounts of information.

What I have learned about research is that it is a process, a scientific process that psychologist and scientist develop that includes many different approaches and that is carefully peer reviewed and evaluated. There is what is called the Scientific Approach where scientist have an idea or theory and based on their observation will either support the theory or the theory can be falsified by their peers. Data also goes through a review period before it is published in a scientific journal by scientist who have the knowledge and expertise to evaluate it.
