The role that millennial leaders play on Capitol Hill has not dramatically changed since the time its generational counterparts held office. I recall moments in history in which political figures such as Thomas Jefferson, Frederick Douglass, and Barack Obama embodied the roles of successful leaders. What all the aforementioned figures, shared in common as well as should any Millennial on Capitol Hill is the spirit to act as a national respondent on injustices, negotiator, and advocate of the people. These qualities have been evoked by all the greatest leaders I can think of and still are relevant to any leader today. It is commonly known that today’s Millennials have greater access to the internet than prior generations, this access results in issues being able to spread like wildfire throughout the nation. As a leader on Capitol Hill, it is imperative to have the ability to respond to events in a timely manner, failure to do so at a point in which nearly everyone has social media reveals to the public a lack of genuine interest in the events of the country. Although these events may entail anything from …show more content…
A leader should understand it is acceptable to oppose certain bills; however, a great leader also understands that there is value in listening to every bill. They should be able to be critical of the flaws in an opposing bill while concurrently looking for ways to amend the bill so its impact is more reflective of the public’s interest. With a negotiative leader, Millennials would be assured they are never given a bill at face value and that is has been refined in favor of them. A leader of Millennials always challenges the given concept to create a more suitable one. The ability to acknowledge changing social norms should be considered by any Millennial leader and one who is capable of managing this feet for the benefit of the people is crucial to their role on Capitol
Anita Hill was born in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma in 1956. She was the youngest of 13 kids. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a housewife. She was raised in a religious family and went to the Antioch Baptist Church in Tulsa, Ok.
The Texas state legislature is responsible for addressing constituents’ interests and concerns. It is composed of two chambers or houses: The House of Representatives (150 members) and The Senate (31 members). House members serve for two years, each representing a district and 168,000 people. In the other hand, Senators serve four-year terms and represent approximately 811,000 constituents.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself back to the time of reconstruction after the civil war. Your a freed slave, who is still seen as dirty rotten scum. You can't find a occupation because nobody is willing to hire a former slave.Thats where the Freedom Bureau comes in, built to help former slaves and poor whites fit into the reborn society after the civil war.The Freedom Bureau did the best they could to help former captives and poor whites. They supplied medicine and food, made colleges like Fisk,Howard,Hampton university's and Missisppi in 1816.
Washington D.C was an outstanding experience. It was a very frigid day in November. When we arrived we were all shivering in our boots. The first museum we went to was the Holocaust Museum. The Museum was very depressing. One of the exhibits that was the most depressing were the shoes of the victims who didn't survive the Holocaust. I didn't remember what the quote but it was deep .
The two house congress is compose of the House of representation, is based on population. The House of Representatives has 434 member, one from each district of the fifty states. In order to serve in House of representative, he or she must have to be 25 years old, a citizen for seven years and a resident of the state one wants to represent. Representation is determined by population. The senate has two senators from each state for a total of 100. To be a Senator, one must be at least 30 years old, a citizen for nine years and a resident of the state one wants to represent. Senators were chosen by the state legislature which meant they tend to be politically important members of the state’s elite class. However, this changed with the 17th amendment,
Billions of dollars are spent by thousands of lobbyists that work within Congress each year to see if they can alter or eliminate federal policies that they feel need are no longer needed or that need to be modified. Does the influence of money make it possible for the lobbyist to be more effective in changing the federal policies? This is a question that has been asked many times and with different points of views and opinions. It is sometimes said the person with the most money has the most influence but I don’t believe that that is always true.
The democratic party began in 1848 and is the oldest party that is still active today.
The citizens thought Bush hill was a place of death where we were killed and, they thought it was a bad place. Soon Steven Gerrard came along and revitalized Bush Hill and made it into a hospital for the sick and made it a good place for people to go to for care.
The United States Congress is a bicameral institution divided into two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate. Members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms, and population determines their number per state. Senators are apportioned equally, with each state receiving two, and they serve six-year terms, with individual senators’ terms being staggered in two-year intervals. The Founders chose this way of organizing the chambers as a compromise between states with large populations (which receive more representation in the House) and states with smaller populations (which hold much more power in the Senate relative to their populations), and also to incentivize or discourage certain behaviors within each chamber.
For Gibson Southern’s 2017 Mock Congress assignment I was given bill numbers two and eleven. Bill two was “A Bill to Incentivize a Shift to Green Energy by Increasing Investments in Nuclear Energy”. Bill eleven was “A Resolution to End Tax Exemptions for Religious Institutions”. I was a member of the Gold Party, therefore, I was for bill eleven and opposing bill two.
Summiya Islam Govt2306-71003 12/4/2017 Sherry Sharifian Assignment three Committees If I were to serve in the Senate, I would need to focus on things like; education, health insurance, and transportation. Personally, I think that the education system is very hard. The tuitions are high; especially, private school tuitions are very expensive. Middle-class people and poor people have a really hard time when paying the tuition. In Texas, it’s good to have health insurance because if you need to go to the doctor, you can. Otherwise, without health insurance homeless people, poor people, and children have a really hard time. Also, transport is important too without transportation, there would be no way for people to go to places they need to go
In a work environment everybody wants to climb the totem pole. For Millennials, they want to rise to leadership without working too hard for it. They are trying to reach the leadership positions as fast as they can and at times they are unprepared for the position they enter because they have not experienced enough along the way. Where Millennials are too fast to rise to leadership, people considered to be Generation X, who are known for their hard work ethic and experience are often complacent in the workplace. Though they gained their experience (unlike Millennials) by working their way up the chain of command and gradually paying their dues and though they also do not expect to be handed a higher position, like Millennials who feel entitled to higher positions in the workplace, they are also not as motivated as Millennials. With many elected officials seemingly lack of technical aptitude and reluctance to relate to constituents via new age tactic such as social media, how do you propose to leader in today’s technical climate?
Effective leaders of my age are faced with a few challenges, quite a few actually. One being the generational divide that currently exists between four different workplace peer groups: Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, my age group of Generation X, and Millennials. Aside from increased global diversity, our workforce has mushroomed with generational cultures as well. Young associates of today are the future leaders of tomorrow, yet there is an obligation to honor the long-term commitment of our older associates. When bridging these distinct generations,
Additionally to television, many political figures including Barrack Obama use social networking as a way to reach American citizens. Social networking is practically a right of passage among youth today. Political influences are in all types of media. Any young person that uses social networking or watches television is choosing to not pay attention to politics. “It would be reading too much into such responses to say that these two-thirds of young Americans didn’t value voting; they could well have seen voting as a fundamental right or a crucial choice. Nevertheless, without a
