Capstone Proposal Introduction
White Mountain Ranch is a family owned and operated business located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Sedro-Woolley, WA. They organically raise Red Angus/Hereford cattle for sell to the public, as well as sell farm-inspired artistic items. Currently they rely on word of mouth networking, and the occasional local farmer’s markets to reach new customers. The Ranch would benefit greatly by having an eye-catching website that will attract people visually, provide information on products and services they provide, and an about page that gives interesting information about the business. Once both goals are completed, we would create a training regime for the employees to help them understand how to use the database, as well as how to maintain the information therein. We would then create an account with the website host for the stakeholders so they can make any changes to the website, as well as teach them how to maintain the website. In recap through this project, we will examine the Ranch’s needs for a database and website, design them using current best practices, and create them to be user friendly for easy maintenance.

Simply put, if you have a business today, you need a website. Period. In the U.S. alone, the number of internet users (approximately 77 percent of the population) and e-commerce sales ($165.4 billion in 2010, according to the US Department of Commerce) continue to rise and are expected to increase with each passing year.” (Schaefer, 2011) Every business that wants to compete in today’s economy should have a professional looking and well-designed website. It enables users to find out information about the business, and the goods and services they offer.
Remember, if you do not have a website, you will most likely be losing business to those that do. (Schaefer, 2011)
The business world preys on those who stay static, and fail to evolve and innovate. There are solutions however and of course and it is worth investigating what aspects play
