“Not every 13 year old girl is accused of murder, brought to trial, and found guilty.” But for Charlotte Doyle it was a different story. In this thrilling novel Charlotte is a 13 year old girl that abords a ship called the Seahawk as her father had planned for her voyage from Liverpool, England to the United States, after he and his wife had left her to finish school. She had planned to ride with two other families but as they could not make it, she was forced to ride the ship on a two month voyage with all men. On this miserable journey Charlotte ends up having to become something she would have never imagined so would become. In this book Charlotte Doyle shows that she is brave, determined and unusual. In the start of the book after she met Captain Jaggery and he had asked her to tell him if the crew was betraying him or planing something she showed her loyalness in many ways. For instance when she went to the forecast to get a needle for Ewing and she had to go into his truck, she saw a pistol and when she left she bumped into the table they were using and saw a red robin. As soon as Charlotte had seen what had been in the forecast she went right up and told Jaggery. She also showed loyalty when she decided to join the crew and stuck up to Jaggery and called him a coward. This proves that she is loyal because she is sticking up for herself and the crew, she is telling him that she will not stand by him while he works that crew to death, she is showing him that she is now loyal to the crew and that makes Jaggery furious. My finnal piece of evidence is when Charlotte thinks that Zacharia killed Hollybrass, instead of telling Jaggery or asking Zacharia if he did it she took the blame because she didn't want him to get killed. There is no denial that this shows she wasn't loyal. She was giving up her life even though she didn't do it because she didn't want Zacharia to get
Secondly, when Captain Jaggery was going to hurt Zachariah Charlotte stepped in. Charlotte pleaded with Captain Jaggery not to hurt Zachariah and he didn’t listen. Charlotte tried
Charlotte Doyle is a 13 year old girl that is afraid to go to America alone. When she got on the ship people told her this is not the ship you want to be on. Charlotte got sick so she stayed in her cabin with roaches. Zachariah was giving her tea when she was sick. Charlotte Doyle went to Zachariah and that’s when Zechariah gave Charlotte the dirk. Charlotte went to Captain Jaggery and told him that she didn’t want it. Captain Jaggery said you should keep it because of the crew. Ewing asked Charlotte to go get something for him and that’s when Charlotte Doyle found the round robin and the stowaway. Captain Jaggery got the crew to the deck and shot cranick and hung Zachariah. Charlotte doyle whipped captain Jaggery’s face. Charlotte Doyle
In the story, True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, the author Avi created an external conflict. A major conflict that was developed in the story was Charlotte not knowing who to trust. A possible theme in the book, True Confessions of Charlotte doyle, is that you can’t trust everyone and every little thing someone said. According to the text on page sixteen Mr. Keetch said, “But it’s my strong opinion, miss, that you should take another ship for your passage to America.” Mr. Keetch warned Charlotte to take another ship because she was the only girl on the ship. Also as stated in the beginning of the story Charlotte was convicted of murder, and the men on the ship were really rude to her. Charlotte didn’t know if she could trust them or not.
Hollybrass. Zachariah and Charlotte has a plan to get the muskets from the safe of his cabin. Mr. Doyle(shipmate name) sneaks from the birg to Captain Jaggery's cabin, only to see Jaggery waiting for Mr. Doyle. Since the captain figured out all of her plans from Keetch, he was fully prepared. Jaggery knew that Zachariah is hiding in the prison cell. Charlotte enters, knowing already that Jaggery staged the attack on Mr. Hollybrass to make Mr. Doyle guilty, and Jaggery gives a speech to her about how order was disrupted. Jaggery admits that he killed Mr. Hollybrass, since Samuel was threatening Jaggery. The captain gives her three options. The first option is that he will give Mr. Doyle the keys to the safe to get the muskets and kill Captain Jaggery. This will make her family shamed and reputation The second option is to put her old clothes on, ask for forgiveness, and everything will be in proper order. The third option is that she can be hanged. Charlotte rejects all the ideas and runs to the deck where the conspiracy had turned against them. The captain comes outside and shoots, only to miss because the ship plunges. Mr. Doyle retreats to the bowsprit, and soon Jaggery follows. Then, the ship plunges and Jaggery is thrown overboard. Zachariah says that since Charlotte saved their lives, she should become captain. She became captain and was
Chapter 19: Charlotte is led back to the brig. Zachariah visits Charlotte again. Charlotte tells Zachariah that there are only twenty-four hours till she is hung to death. Charlotte admits to Zachariah that she thinks Zachariah killed Hollybrass. Zachariah tells her that Captain Jaggery saw him on the deck during the storm. Zachariah and Charlotte come to an understanding that Captain Jaggery killed Hollybrass. Zachariah and Charlotte have a plan to stop Captain Jaggery.
Zachariah wants Charlotte to be friends with Charlotte but she tells him earlier, “I don’t need a friend.” Charlotte doesn’t want to be friends with Zachariah because he is part of the crew and she only desires to be friends with someone of the same class. The theme occurred, on page 112, Charlotte says, “I’ve come,” I managed to say, “to be one of the crew.” Charlotte didn’t trust the crew because they were lower class and she was taught to be companions with people of the same class. Once she told the captain of the round robin and the pistol, and he killed Mr. Cranick and Zachariah, she realized he wasn’t who she thought he was.
The main character of this book is a thirteen-year-old girl named Charlotte Doyle. She is caring, brave, curious, and helpful. She is caring because when she hit Captain Jaggery, she didn’t mean to hit him, so she apologized because she knew that she made a mistake. Charlotte is brave because she was able to stand up for herself and Zachariah when getting hurt, she had the guts to grab the whip. I think that wanting to just get home, working through the uncomfort, or just getting off the ship is what motivates her. Yes, Charlotte Doyle is well developed by the author. He portrayed her as young, but brave girl who can take care of herself in situation, yet who is caring and kind-hearted. I agree with the way the character handled events
When Zachariah was getting whipped by Captain Jaggery, Charlotte wanted him to stop. It was then when Charlotte went to the crew’s side and became friends with them. She wanted to replace Zachariah’s position because he “died.” Because Charlotte’s friends changed on the ship, her workload also
Along her journey, Charlotte teaches herself new skills to improve the quality and develop her character. Her new skills teach her to be independent, do things for her own, and rely on herself. Now, she does things independently, such as, dressing and bathing herself, and doing her own “chores.” After she returns home, Charlotte realizes how she doesn’t apt to her familiar surroundings anymore, and how much change has occurred to her personality. She makes admirable, well thought through, clever decisions, such as when she decides to return to the Seahawk and mend to the ship, which means, of course, running away from her

She will cherish what she has learned from Miss Hancock forever. Charlotte does not believe Zachariah
