“What do you want to be when you grow up?” As a child, we have all been asked this question; and as unrealistic children, we all had dreams of being a superhero, princess, cowboy, or astronaut. Later on in life, as time went by, and as we became more knowledgeable, our answers became more serious. Some of us wanted to be teachers, business owners, or a veterinarian. However, I have always wanted to be a doctor, but not just any doctor. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a pediatrician. Now, half way through my junior year in high school, I have started to question the details of this career, and all the hard work it takes to become a part of the medical field.

 This paper will aim to apply my insights on motivational theory of individuals and teams by developing two initiatives to be put into action at the New Mexico Veteran Administration Medical Center (VA).  It will discuss how I will implement these initiatives and what changes in an employee mindset may be required to overcome any resistance.  It will discuss the positive outcomes I expect, and how I can avoid or minimize negative factors which may cause stress.

The career I chose was surgical tech , and I chose surgical tech because I want to be able to experience surgery , and see what it’s like , and also I would like to know how the job is done and I want to know what happens inside the operation room . Another career that I have interest in is being a surgeon. I’m able to organize and memorize things in an order that I can quickly and swiftly reach the tools and instruments as the surgeon asks for one during the operation. I will have to be focused and diligent during the operations in my ability to listen and follow directions. In this career, my compassion and good people skills will come in handy in helping others around me whether they are the patients, relatives of the patient, or my coworkers. Advantages to this career would be helping ill people get another chance at a longer life, working with some of the best surgeons in the state, getting to participate in procedures, and learning to better my career. My selected career would be an OB/GYN or something in the medical field. I am very interested in that career because it's inspiring how someone can have such a huge impact on people's lives. Since early childhood, I always believed I would choose a career in the medical field. When I was five years old, I was asked: “What do you want to be when you grow up”? Biomedical engineering is a field where you will be finding solutions for the problems inside your body using engineering principles. Then, once you pursue a degree in biomedical engineering then you can specialize in various interesting subfields; to name a few, bio-engineering, tissue engineering and cellular engineering where an individual who has successfully acquired sufficient knowledge in the field would deal with both human body and medical devices that ranges from clinical equipment to micro implant. I believe this field is one that would both accommodate the interests of an engineering student, as well as a medical student. Finally, my intention in choosing this field goes beyond my salary package. On many occasions my personal goals have come before my professional aspirations. A career in the medical field has always been something I have looked forward to. My sights have changed as I have gotten older. I no longer want to become a medical doctor. I may in the far future decide to become a doctor but I would rather be a registered nurse because they deal with the patients more. I also prefer working with pediatric or gereatric patients. Whatever way that I decide to go I will always be helping someone, somewhere.

Many people are already thinking about what they want their life to be like in the future. My future begins in college. I’ve been waiting to go to college since middle school. I’m interested in taking anything in the medical field such as nursing, pharmacist, medical technician, etc. I believe this will benefit me, my family, and other people because I want to take care of my family, other patients, and also myself by learning more about health science. To me, successful is happiness, and happiness is not necessarily being wealthy. My happiness is having to help people and also having a family who cares and supports me.
