After finishing my studies, my goal is to work as an Oncology Social Worker. I did not always think this way, but a lot changed throughout High School. After witnessing a dear family member fight their second battle to cancer and sadly loosing, I knew I wanted a career where I could offer the emotional support that they had not received during a dark time in their life. I pondered for some time. My senior year rolled around and that was when I had my own experience with how frightening cancer is when I had my own scare. From that moment on, I knew I needed to work alongside the issue if I were to truly have an impact on it. That was when I learned about Oncology Social Worker and how it catered to help not only the patient but their support
This goal is very personal to me in the sense that i strongly desire to help others and to improve the lives of the victims. My goal is to work and study my way up to become an oncologist, to work on patients with cancerous threats, preparing to improve the treatments for victims of this devastating obstacle that is cancer. An oncologist is someone who deals with cancerous threats and cancerous tumors. Cancer is their specialty and dedicate their time treating patients with cancer or any tumors that are related to this
My teachers, coaches, family, friends, and community members have all pushed me to strive for my best and to never settle. Because of them, I have big goals for my future. My first goal is to go to college to get my BSN and to then continue to get my DNP. My second goal is to specialize in Pediatric Oncology to help make children's tough lives easier and to give them a sense of home even when they are spending long intervals of time at the hospital. I want to help them fight for their lives and push them through the tough times. I want to be a huge support system for them just like Adams was for me.
Hospice is where I will stay once I get my nursing degree. I will be the first out of my parents and mothers side of the family to graduate from a four year college. I have so many people depending on me and looking up to me to finish school and to become successful. My family is my motivation. They give me the strength to push myself for the better. I am an only child so I feel like I have to be the best at everything. I push myself harder than anyone else. I really am my worst critic, but I take that as something positive because there’s always room for improvement. I will strive to do my very best through school even though I know it’s going to be hard. Lastly, I’ve always wanted to be a nurse. Never in a million years had I thought I would enjoy this job so much. From the moment I became a CNA I knew I wanted to be a nurse. I enjoy helping others. Also, working side by side with the amazing nurses I’ve had the pleasure to work with has made me want this that much more. I love to talk with them and hear their journey to becoming a nurse. It’s not the easiest job but defiantly worth all the hard work. There are so many opportunities available with a BSN
After my graduation I was very excited to independently take care of patients while working as a General Practitioner. But it was not until my Grandmother, who was very close to me, got diagnosed with a stage four breast cancer, that I switched my career goals. I watched her suffer from severe bone
Long term, my goal is to acquire a Masters in Nursing. Professionally, I aim to work as a registered Oncology nurse, combining both treatments, nutritional guidance, and holistic care for cancer patients and persons at risk for cancer. Today, I volunteer as a breast cancer mentor, sharing the battle I have faced with cancer in a positive way. Mentoring women undergoing mastectomies and cancer treatments along with their families has become significant and rewarding.
This week I have been quite busy observing other programs within the VA. I have had the opportunity to observe the oncology social worker, the HUD/VASH program, and the geriatric primary care program. I really enjoyed my experience with the HUD/VASH program. It is a position that allows field work, and I truly enjoy building relationships with partnering agencies in the community. The oncology social worker is very hands-off because she does not meet face to face with several of her clients. She reported that at least 90% of her job consists of being on the telephone with patients to follow-up with their cancer status. I also enjoyed my experience with the geriatric primary care program primarily because the social worker is highly skilled
Originally my desire was to become a physician assistant or nurse, until my heart started to reach out to those patients I took care patients exposed to unfavorable circumstance. Due to the exposure of many to victims, I saw in the emergency room, labor delivery, and relationships with personal friends my desire to aid in the need of such a disparity realized, the key to healthy people started at the Psychological
My paternal grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 7yr old. At this age, I was too young to comprehend what was going on, but I do remember the significance of the situation and the impact that it had on my entire family. It truly influenced me. My research done on Radiation Therapy substantiates that this field has a strong impact on people’s lives both physically and mentally. Within this past year my maternal grandmother was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Seeing the effect that a positive support system can have as well as the success that the radiation therapy has had on her has reinforced my desire to be able to pursue a career that would allow me to help people get through tough times in their lives by being able to provide physical care as well as emotional support.
My professional goal is two stages. First, get my Bachelors of Science in nursing, then my Masters of Science in nursing. Second, to work as a registered Oncology nurse, combining both treatments and nutritional guidance for cancer patients and persons who are at risk. Once I acquire my degree in nursing Alaska Regional, whom I currently work for; will have me work in different departments as a nurse to gain valuable training in various fields of nursing. Ultimately, this experience will make me a better nurse in the field of my choice, Oncology. Today, I volunteer as a breast cancer mentor. Mentoring women who are undergoing double mastectomies and cancer treatments along with their families has become very important and rewarding to me. It
I believe my purpose in life is to show love and compassion to those who are hurting. My dream is to be a pediatric oncology nurse. The reason I want to be a pediatric oncology nurse is because I want to shine light into the lives of those experiencing dark times. Being a child and having to go through various medical treatments takes a tremendous toll on both the family and the child. I want to be able to help people through that and provide the best quality care
Since I have been a young girl, I have dreamed of dedicating my life to aid others in health and wellness. Nursing, however has not always been my leading career choice. Career options such as a pediatrician, oncologist, anesthesiologist, etc. have been considered in my pursuit of finding the proper career path, but through all the consideration I have never lost my true passion of helping others. Through careful examination of these various careers, I discovered that I wanted to pursue a career that was more personal and hands-on. I have chosen to pursue a career as a pediatric oncology nurse. Although this career with be both physically and emotionally demanding, I feel that I have made the best choice to become a nurse and devote my life in the pursuit of restoring health and wellness in children battling detrimental diseases.
Throughout life one will encounter many experiences and there is a lesson within each of those experiences. Right now as an activity aide in a nursing home my passion is to make sure each and every resident gets some sort of enjoyment out of their day whether it’s from reading the newspaper, having coffee outside or its getting their nails painted. I just want to make sure their day has some activity that they enjoy. My dream job after graduation is to work in a hospital in the palliative care/hospice as a social worker. In this setting I will still get to make
A nurse oncologist works with patients who suffer from some form of cancer in which they provide care. The job of this specific type of nurse is to provide cancer patients with treatments that include such measures as both chemo and radiation therapy with the goal of eliminating the cancerous cells within a patient’s body. “Oncology nurses often serve as your first line of communication, and help coordinate the many aspects of your care throughout cancer treatment” (The Role of the…, 2001). They are there constantly monitoring the patients mental and physical condition, administering medication, creating management strategies, maintaining health records, and communicating physicians and distressed family members during these difficult times.
I chose social working as my career because many other people go through tough situations and have a difficult time talking to relatives or friends to help them through a tough situation. I thought of becoming a social worker so I can have the ability to change the lives of others. Social work is one of those careers you can truly make a difference in people’s lives. I want to become a social worker because life isn’t about just helping yourself it’s about helping others as well, which is what social workers do for a living. Child and family social workers protect children and families in need of assistance. Many families and children don’t feel comfortable talking to just anyone about obstacles they have faced in their lives which is why
When I was younger my best friend and I were inseparable, until middle school that is. The summer before 7th grade my best friend, Ali, was diagnosed with Chordoma, a rare type of childhood cancer. I saw first hand the affects childhood cancer has on friends, family, and the child. Ali and I decided then that we wanted to make a difference in the lives of people battling cancer; From writing letters to visiting hospitals, we did all we could. As we grew older and moved apart we swore to one another we would not lose sight of why we were helping others.1.I knew then that I wanted to be in a career field that focused on helping people. One of the professions that I am drawn to is Pediatric Oncology. As a Pediatric Oncologist I would be treating cancer in children.
