There are so many, yet limited, different opportunities in the world to have an excellent career and make a decent living while doing something one loves. This discipline i choose for my career field description was structural engineering with is a branch of civil engineering. Structural engineering focuses on the framework of structures and designing structures to withstand the stresses and pressures of their environment and remain safe, stable, and secure throughout their use. In other words, structural engineers make sure that buildings don't fall down and bridges don't collapse. Structural engineering is among the oldest types of engineering, dating back to the first instance of tree branches being lashed together with vines to make a shelter. Throughout history, people have been designing and building increasingly larger and more sophisticated structures, from small huts to the International Space Station.

Typically, when someone hears ‘medical field’, automatically you think of people with white lab coats and a stethoscope around their neck ready to take your vitals. Obviously this comes to mind because these doctors and surgeons are the face of the medical field, but in reality there is so much more. There are actually about 300 different occupations one can have in the health care field. A large part of that is nurses. Nurses are the basis of the medical field; they are almost as important as the patients themselves. They have always been a major part of our lives. Nurses have been with us since we first opened our eyes, from birth to broken bones, nurses were there. They have very difficult and extensive careers, they dedicate their lives to their work and to their patients. Some nurses spend long nights away from their family and friends to help others, at times their shifts can last as long as 24 hours. In my opinion nurses are the real super heroes, for this reason I have decided to pursue a major in nursing. I still have a lot to learn and many years of schooling to go, but personally its worth the wait.

Employability has been defined as "the capability of getting and keeping satisfactory work". Graduate employers across all industries want more than just a degree; they want graduates who can demonstrate a wide range of skills, attributes and knowledge, often called ‘employability skills’. Graduate businesses over all ventures need something beyond a degree; they need graduates who can exhibit an extensive variety of abilities, properties and information, regularly called 'employability aptitudes'. (Hertsacuk, 2018)

In order for me to complete this career assessment paper, I initially took an Interest Inventory survey. Upon completing this process, it revealed that my personality profile score was (I, C, A). These three letters represented my strengths and interests in determining which career field would best suit me.

During the beginning of the second semester, Mrs. Bridges had assigned each of her classes a proposition which would include working with the environment along with giving the opportunity to learn a new skill. Requirements for the assignment included: thirty hours of work, a minimum of six photos, along with an essay describing what all occurred during the past three months.

The relationship of the NCDA to the American Counseling Association is that the “NCDA is a founding division of the American Counseling Association and collaborates with the ACA to jointly represent the interest of counselors in congress and in the national legislative process” (NCDA, 2015).

Throughout this semester this class has allowed me the privilege to get to know people who I would have never talked to on a personal level while also having the chance to advance my interviewing skills while getting to know them. Not only did these interviews and experiences display my strengths such as being able to adapt to certain situations but even more importantly it helped show me my weaknesses. After one interview and the next, I had to learn what role I had to play as within each interview I had to adapt to find my specific role as it varied from one to the next. Having the opportunity to interview a handful of people from the beginning of this semester to now has also taught me that the person you are interviewing can have a tremendous effect on if the interview goes successfully or not for reasons that I will elaborate on further in my paper. Lastly, one of the greatest lessons I learned about while interviewing people would be how to properly prepare to make sure the interview itself go as smoothly as possible. All of these factors have helped me grow in becoming a better interviewer and have helped me grow as a person.

After attending the PMF Job fair on Monday, I’ve learned more information about the process that I thought would be helpful to pass along.

In conclusion, my attendance to this career fair was about what I expected given the fact I didn't think very many businesses would be offering internships to aspiring physician's assistants. One thing I wish the Business and Technology career fair had was hospitals or more medical related opportunities. Outside that fact, I would say my overall experience at the fair was a positive

I interviewed Officer Greenlee, who is a close friend. She works as a Correctional Officer for the Peoria County Jail, I interviewed her while we were on duty on Saturday, April 16th.

In the competitive world today, having a college degree might not benefit a student as much as before, thus opening up numerous questions concerning its necessity. Not only is the number of students desperately trying to enroll in college increasing, but the tuition shoots up as well. However, will college enrollment necessarily be enough to increase your chances of attaining job security? The answer is hotly debated amongst adults and students alike, which opens up the second option for students, that is, joining the work force. Although this option is generally shunned by the new generation, the tough economy and slow restoration makes it quite a desirable choice at the moment. When deciding which companies to do your internship with, do not just focus on one division of construction. I only focused on commercial construction. So when I was reading through the companies attending the career fair, I immediately did not consider any company that was not in commercial construction. I never considered researching industrial, residential, heavy civil general contractors, or any subcontractors. I realize now that I was closed minded, and never gave myself the opportunity to know more about the other types of construction. What better time to learn than at a career fair with over one hundred and forty different companies. However, during the career fair, I did not speak to one other sector besides commercial construction.

Walking into the Career Fair, I had no clue what to expect. This is my junior year, so I decided that I should go and get a feel of what the job market looks like. I have already had an internship this past summer, so I planned on going to the spring Career Fair. I decided to go to the fall one so I can better prepare myself for spring. I treated the Career Fair the same as I would treat a job interview. The main activity I do to prepare is research, something I really excel at. I first went through all the companies that were participating and selected the companies that were interested in Human Resource positions. From there I narrowed down the companies to approximately twenty companies by interest. I ended with about nine companies.

My selected mentor is Jerry Martin RN, BSN. He is a co-worker that has inspired me to return to school and that any dream is obtainable. Jerry has a degree in biology and was working as a ward clerk in our ER when I met him. He has a degree in biology and worked in finance before working at the hospital. Jerry states” I was unhappy with my career in finance and I realized I had drifted a long way from my education and my core belief. During a conference a guest speaker said “true happiness is found when you find the one thing you would do in life even if you did not get paid for it”. That was my “aha” moment.” G.M. Martin (personal communication, September 3,2013) Jerry entered nursing school in 2006 and graduated with a BSN in 2011. He is currently working toward a MSN and striving to be a FNP. He is a great nurse and it is a privilege to have him as a co-worker and my mentor.
