A team Discovery meeting was held at JVS on 8/23/17 for Steven. The meeting was to go over everything that took place during the Discovery process and to talk about him participating in an internship. In attendance was Steven, his parents, this counselor, and the JVS pathways team. During the meeting Rita the Career Navigator who spent all her time with Steven during the Discovery process went over everything that was collected such as: his interests, contributions/skills, ideal working conditions vs. preferences, tasks, and potential sites for an internship (full report in case file). When it comes to his interests, Steven identified the following three areas to target for internships: shopping, movies/watching TV, and cleaning. Steven has many contributions/skills that were identified during the Discovery process. While it is certainly true that any individual from any population can face questions, dilemmas, or circumstances regarding their career or occupation, this is an especially pertinent topic when working with those recovering from substance use disorders. Graham (2006) noted the importance surrounding the self-concept of these individuals as a primary factor for not only recovery but future career planning. Darrell Luzzo (2007) noted two different forms of career assessments, and described counselors’ roles in working with individuals’ understandings of their contextual position within occupation investigation. Luzzo defined the utilization of assessments for this purpose as career
Thank you so much for the opportunity and offer for the Financial Planning Counselor position. I so appreciate you taking the time to consider me and for answering so many of my question about the role.
I am ready to challenge myself to learn the dynamics of how a large company works and communicates along with exploring new fields in STEM. I am ready and willing to learn and accomplish whatever is required. I would enjoy learning how to code as this is a skill that I could use to improve my robotics team greatly. I am also interested in learning more about media protection and company branding. The skills I will learn through this internship will help guide my career choice in STEM and prepare me for college. No matter what career in the area of STEM I chose to go into, I know that communication, technical skills and business management will be necessary skills to have to provide quality results. I look forward to listening to, learning from, and leading

Through my research I have found multiple jobs that interest me, but there are two that stick out the most: Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist and Psychiatric Technician. Before researching, I had no idea about these jobs, but now I know good deal about them. After researching, I found out in what settings people in these positions work, how much they make on average annually, what their job entitles, what the education requirements are, what the growth rates for these occupations are. The jobs’ settings are very similar, but their salaries and duties are very different. I was able to find that if one just looks at the average, annual wage for each occupation, Psychiatric Technicians make about $28,000 while Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialists make about $34,000. The growth rate for Rehabilitation Counselors, in general, is faster than Psychiatric Technicians, but only by four percent. The overall tasks of each occupation, however, differ greatly from each other.

I heard of the Mayo Clinic Career Immersion Program when I was looking for something to introduce me into the medical careers. I have always had an interest in the medical field and have had varying ideas of what I wanted to do. I generally find a career that I would really like to do and research it for a while. I then find something new to do the same thing. This program would help me realize the career aspects that I enjoy because I could get hands on experience with many medical specialties. I am always looking for new learning opportunities. One of my hobbies is reading about new medical advancements so, I am always learning new things about the medical fields. I have an interest with all things human anatomy. In school my favorite classes

For my Career Exploration Project, I chose the career of legal secretary. In the practice of law, a legal secretary is person who works in the legal profession, typically assisting lawyers. I chose legal secretary, because I have been exposed and aware of this profession for a while. My mother has been involved in the legal secretarial field of work for about two and a half years now. Seeing lawyers and their assistants on television first interested me in the career, but my mother being a legal secretary furthered my interest. My mother took me to her place of business a few times. I wasn’t able to see lawyers in full action, but I got to see my mom and some other legal secretaries in meetings and conferences.
When I was young I wanted to become a teacher; however, that all changed throughout the years. What had motivated me to become a teacher was all the supplies they had like the whiteboards, the markers, and the construction paper. It seemed fun and interesting to me to have all the supplies. I no longer wish to become a teacher. As I grew older I realized that I wanted to do something that has me going to places, seeing new things, speaking with diverse individuals, and for that reason I chose to be involved in Real estate.
This particular internship should be available to all students and should be greatly encouraged among the Douglas High School staff. As I was capable of seeing new and unique things, the career internship in OB came with great excitement and
