Careers in Research
Research is defined as “Research and experimental development include creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of man, culture and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications” (Johnson 5). There are many different paths to pursue a research career. Market research, political research, pharmaceutical research, aerospace research, financial analysts research, psychology research, social research, and scientific research are some of the main types of research careers. For example, “aerospace researchers (who are usually engineers) do things like study how air flows around different aircraft designs” (Wetfeet, 2/18/16). Another example to a career in research could be the cancer research career which is focused on exploring the effectiveness of the various treatment options and reducing the mortality rate due to cancer” (wisegeek 2/18/16). Those are the only a few of the main types of careers available in research and a research professional have many options to choose depends significantly on the field of study and the industry.
Research is a very large field of study but no matter what the field of study and industry is there are always some similarities on what researcher do when they do their jobs. The researcher can have very different focus and their work can be on academic filed, scientific field, political field, or social field
Prehistoric and ancient artists represent men and women in various ways and the works of art tell an altered story, which reinforces old-fashioned gender roles. Additionally, representations of prehistoric and ancient genders illustrate the social standards of their specific periods. The views of gender presented by the works of art are still recognizable, despite all individual’s current sensibilities and views today. An individual’s contemporary view is of gender and gender rules illustrates the significant social progress that the human culture has made. Although the Woman of Willendorf and Kouros/Statue of standing Youth artworks were created at different times, the genders can still easily be depicted within the artwork.
Research can be used in many methods, for example: questionnaires, television, leaflets, books etc. it allows us to keep up to date on the new findings or discoveries e.g. a new type of cancer or a new vaccination. Research is the investigation into

The career I chose to undertake as my profession is that of a mechanical engineer. Why do I want to become a mechanical engineer? Well, for starters, I would be able to design, build and possibly repair many various machines and other technologies that are complex. These technologies can range from being already in use on a global scale to new, futuristic designs that are highly technical. Also, this career includes being a sort of jack-of-all-trades, where I would possess knowledge in mathematics, physics, etc. Finally, this career offers me the chance to expand outside my immediate area since mechanical engineers are well desired around the globe as well.
Some of the most prevalent disadvantages to an occupation in this field are the hours necessary. As a CPA with a large accounting firm I would expect a typical work week of 40 to 50 hours. But, during the tax season, January through April, it could be as many as 70 hours per week (S. Westfield, personal interview, August 1, 2008). Since I have already been employed within the accounting industry for some time now, my family and I are used to the long hours and fluctuation during busy times.
Through my research I have found multiple jobs that interest me, but there are two that stick out the most: Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist and Psychiatric Technician. Before researching, I had no idea about these jobs, but now I know good deal about them. After researching, I found out in what settings people in these positions work, how much they make on average annually, what their job entitles, what the education requirements are, what the growth rates for these occupations are. The jobs’ settings are very similar, but their salaries and duties are very different. I was able to find that if one just looks at the average, annual wage for each occupation, Psychiatric Technicians make about $28,000 while Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialists make about $34,000. The growth rate for Rehabilitation Counselors, in general, is faster than Psychiatric Technicians, but only by four percent. The overall tasks of each occupation, however, differ greatly from each other.

Within society, there are many occupations to explore and chose. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) results showed that my personal career strengths fall under the area of teaching and counseling. Currently, as a school counselor for a high school in Duncanville, Texas, a suburb outside of Dallas, I find the results of the assessment to be very accurate. Making the decision to become a counselor is a rewarding and exciting career choice. In the world of counsling, there are many individuals who place emphasis on not just basic implications, but also on theoretical studies that usually are a part of
When I was young I wanted to become a teacher; however, that all changed throughout the years. What had motivated me to become a teacher was all the supplies they had like the whiteboards, the markers, and the construction paper. It seemed fun and interesting to me to have all the supplies. I no longer wish to become a teacher. As I grew older I realized that I wanted to do something that has me going to places, seeing new things, speaking with diverse individuals, and for that reason I chose to be involved in Real estate.
During the High Middle Ages, there was no strong, central government that was politically organized enough to meet common needs of the people in Europe. After the fall of Charlemagne’s empire, invasions and anarchy became the societal norm. If they wanted to survive, they had to meet particular needs. The people of the High Middle Ages met their needs of political organization, economic provision, and social aspects through Feudalism, Manorialism, and through the Church.
I have been working on my academic career for many years now. I am currently in my third year of community college, and have come across multiple teachers who have helped and inspired me in many ways. A teacher not only teaches the content of their course, but life skills as well. They are kind, caring, considerate, and understanding of their students. A teacher who goes above and beyond for their students is one that will make a difference. One teacher who I believe has made all the difference to me, was my accounting professor.
Drug abuse is something that has plagued Americans over the years and continues to be an issue today. The hippie culture of the 1960s contributed to a rise in drug abuse. In addition, the Vietnam war created an awareness that servicemen were coming back to America addicted to Heroin. The Drug Abuse Prevention Treatment & Rehabilitation Act “states that control of drug abuse requires the development of a comprehensive, coordinated long term federal strategy that encompasses both effective law enforcement against illegal drug traffic and effective health programs to rehabilitation victims of drug abuse”(US Legal, 2016, para 2). The Harrison Narcotic Act of 1914 was the first ban on the distribution of drugs and in 1919 the alcohol prohibition
Realizing the career that would be right for me. Would likely be a private/criminal investigator. Seeing that I am motivated and committed for a job like this it can become a widely problem-solving, communicational career for me. I’m willing to use my skills to help others in need in the criminal field. Pursuing this career it would allow me to always have something exciting happen daily and always be on my toes. Therefore, this is something that interests me a lot and I know it would be fun for me. As a private investigator, it requires much of schooling, ways to make sure you are a problem solver, and helping people with their cases of criminals and more that can get away from the trouble they had caused.
What I have learned about research is that it is a process, a scientific process that psychologist and scientist develop that includes many different approaches and that is carefully peer reviewed and evaluated. There is what is called the Scientific Approach where scientist have an idea or theory and based on their observation will either support the theory or the theory can be falsified by their peers. Data also goes through a review period before it is published in a scientific journal by scientist who have the knowledge and expertise to evaluate it.
