Careers in Research
Research is defined as “Research and experimental development include creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of man, culture and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications” (Johnson 5). There are many different paths to pursue a research career. Market research, political research, pharmaceutical research, aerospace research, financial analysts research, psychology research, social research, and scientific research are some of the main types of research careers. For example, “aerospace researchers (who are usually engineers) do things like study how air flows around different aircraft designs” (Wetfeet, 2/18/16). Another example to a career in research could be the cancer research career which is focused on exploring the effectiveness of the various treatment options and reducing the mortality rate due to cancer” (wisegeek 2/18/16). Those are the only a few of the main types of careers available in research and a research professional have many options to choose depends significantly on the field of study and the industry.
Research is a very large field of study but no matter what the field of study and industry is there are always some similarities on what researcher do when they do their jobs. The researcher can have very different focus and their work can be on academic filed, scientific field, political field, or social field
