Mrs. Jones Honors British Literature 27 April 2015 Naukita Blanton Mrs. Jones Honors British Literature 27 April 2015 Career Research Paper Pediatric nursing is an important profession to us today. They devote their knowledge and skills to caring for children from infancy through the late teen years. Pediatric nursing does not just give you the opportunity to work with children, but with their families as well. I was inspired to become a pediatric nurse when I was younger. I remember when my little sister had to go to Kids First Pediatric to get a flu shot, my sister was so terrified of the needle she began to cry and try to move away from the nurse. In order for the nurse to calm my sister down she started making my sister laugh by playing peek-a-boo with her so that my sister could get her mind off of the needle. Once my sister was no longer thinking about the needle the nurse told my sister to count with her and on the count of three the nurse gave my sister the flu shot without my sister even noticing it. I found it so unique how a nurse could be playful with kids when they’re scared. I like working with kids so I know that this particular field is perfect for me. Pediatric nursing did not develop as a specialty in the United States until the nineteenth century. Before this time, children received very little healthcare. In fact, only wealthy families could afford medical attention. Most children were cared for at home by family members or neighbors used other
A pediatric nurse would be the career for me because I work well with children and I find that helping children makes me happy. Being a pediatric nurse has many duties and personal characteristics needed; such as working with children and getting along with them easily. Being a pediatric nurse also requires many years of studying and also many costs, but in the end the wages and benefits make up for it. The work setting and employment outlook are looking good for the upcoming years. Having a career as a pediatric nurse requires a lot of responsibilities and duties but I feel that because I am hard working and easily get along with children this would be the right career for me.
The main reason why I knew Pediatric Registered Nursing was for me was through the many years of working with kids, as well as my personal interests and skills. Since I worked with kids, I gained a lot of patience and understanding, I always had a place in my heart for kids. I feel like every kid deserves a home and deserves to be treated the right way and I feel like I can make a difference to a kid’s life whether it’s through their health or just a relationship with them. I always been interest in the whole “working in a hospital environment” and since I was little I always been watching
I would like to go into the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner career field. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners help Pediatricians and other Physicians diagnose and take care of children from infancy to young adults. I have grown up with ten siblings and many more cousins, so I have learned how to deal with children of all ages. Also, I have been interested in the medical field since I was a little girl and I have always loved to help people. I would have liked to be a Pediatrician but I would prefere not be in school for another thirteen years, so I found that the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner was the perfect career for me.
Pediatric nurses do a lot of the same tasks as a regular nurse. They draw blood, check vital signs, can perform physical examinations, and order diagnostic tests. However, the job of a pediatric nurse goes beyond regular nurses. They must have a caring relationship
I am Amanda Selich, 27 years old, and have been living in San Francisco for roughly 10 years. I grew up in the East Bay with my 3 siblings and was raised by a single father. Much of my childhood was spent taking care of my younger siblings. This responsibility was so demanding I was forced to drop out of high school and become their “surrogate mother”. However at the age of 24 I was able to get my GED and finally attend college. In fact this past May I graduated from City College of San Francisco with highest honors in Science and Math.
As I begin my fifth year of working as a nurse practitioner in a leading children’s hospital, I am certain the pediatric acute care setting is where I will continue my career of service to children and their families. Although I hold a masters degree in nursing and have been a primary care certified pediatric nurse practitioner for many years, I wish to expand my knowledge of pediatric nursing to encompass the unique and challenging aspects of pediatric acute care.
The medical field is rapidly growing with so many different careers to choose from. There are many different things that you could specialize in. There are so many opportunities in the medical field for you to grow and become something bigger. A very interesting field to go in is a pediatric nurse. This specific career path interests me because when my little brother was 5 years old he suddenly woke up one morning with his body completely swollen. We immediately rushed him to the hospital. While at the hospital they told us that he had Nephrotic Syndrome. His kidneys weren’t properly working and he was leaking excess protein in his urine. Since that day I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to help others, especially kids in their
As seniors in high-school we are always asked about what career we want to pursuit, and where we want to take our lives. I began thinking about what I like and what subjects I was good at. I found out I loved math and science and was good at them too. Then I knew that the health field was really for me. I began searching for ways for me to see if I really liked it, so I applied to go to scrubs health camp at Augsburg college near my house. I really liked it and saw that my love for kids had me leaning to becoming a pediatrician. I had my doubts on that also because of the number of years of schooling, and one day I stumbled upon a pediatric nurse practitioner occupation and began reading about it. I loved it so much that
Sara Moss-Wolfe once said "Nurses — one of the few blessings of being ill." After much research and thought, I decided that I wanted to be a pediatric nurse practitioner. For the most part "Nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners, also referred to as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), coordinate patient care and they may provide primary and specialty health care (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics,2014). Pediatric Practitioners are responsible for recording or patient medical history, performing exams, conduct research, and giving patients medical treatments because it gives me an opportunity to research specific illnesses
Some other generalized duties of a pediatric nurse would be: educating patients on possible ways to help heal the injury or how much of a certain medication to take for an illness. Specific duties of this field are not that much different from the generalized duties of a pediatric nurse, but some differences are: “recording medical history and backgrounds, monitoring progress or setbacks during the patient's stay at the place of treatment, and helping perform tests and analyze the results for the patient” (“Pediatric Nurse”). For the most part, pediatric nurses only work 8 to 12 hour shifts, sometimes having to cover for a co-worker by taking a double-shift. Other quirks about this type of work environment would be that you would be “on-call at all times, you would work on holidays, and having to figure out who would be working which shift if key people were not at work that specific day” (“Summary”). Most people would not be able, or wouldn’t want to, work this way as to having to be on-call at all times of the day, and sometimes not having adequate amounts of sleep from emergency calls into
I am interested in becoming a pediatric nurse because of the connection I have with children. I have always enjoyed taking care and being around children. The joy of making a difference in the pediatric patients and their families lives is something I want
I am interested in becoming a pediatric nurse in the health sciences, and to later become a pediatrician. The Health Science Collegiate Academy (HSCA) will help me accomplish this goal by hopefully helping me achieve my associate’s degree faster. In the future, I plan to attend a university in the state of Florida that has a program in my area of study. I enjoy working with children and helping them, which was influenced by my leadership positions at school. I am strongly affiliated with the band program at my school, and I had two leadership positions. I was the section leader of the flute section in 7th grade, and I am currently Second Lieutenant of Wind Ensemble, which is one of our band classes. I am in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, which
When I graduate from Cypress Lakes High School, my career aspiration is to go on to college and become a pediatric nurse. I love working with children, and health care has always been my number one choice of career paths, so therefore I believe that pediatric nursing is my true calling in life. I believe that clinical rotations will benefit me with experience that I need in order to be successful in my chosen career. Since we will be visiting Texas Children’s Hospital in the clinical rotations class, I will be exposed to a variety of young patients and their medical issues. I believe this could be beneficial to me because as I go on to be a pediatric nurse I will be working with sick children and infants quite often, if not every single day.
In my understanding the role of the professional nurse is to provide care but also serve as listeners, conversationalists, and companions for patients. Nurses are considered the most accessible member of the health care team and is their job to provide patients with information needed in order to handle any concerns the patient might have. I have chosen to pursue nursing as a career because of my mother and the fact that I love helping out people. My mother has inspired me to choose Nursing because unfortunately, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout the process every time I went with her to her appointments we always met nurses that provided care for her. Also, I saw other patients that were going through the same thing. I was
My final week on the pediatric ward was great minus minor hiccups. The patient is C.C 11/12 months old who was admitted on Tuesday 7th November and diagnosis with acute gastroenteritis.
