In the past two decades, a lot of changes have been characterised in the healthcare working systems. One of these changes has been the assimilation of shift work systems and the flexibility in work schedules. The need for 24 hour care makes the healthcare professions to work with different shift systems such as 12 h, 8 h, 9 h or 10 hour shifts. However, the common shift work systems divide a 24-h day in two (12-h) or three (8-h) shifts. Nonetheless, this requires the staff to be adapted with the various forms of shift work schedules.
At this day center my job was to assist and teach basic work skills to adults with intellectual disabilities. I assisted with daily routines and provided therapy, occupational, and speech support. The majority of the clients had extreme medical needs and/ or behaviors. It was our job to conduct behavior prevention and interventions as needed. One of my specific job duties was to plan and implement client outings in the community. If weather did not permit, I planned and implemented activities in the center as individual and/ or group activities. Employees within a hospital play a vital role for humanity. Their work is one of the most demanding since they are work towards ensuring recovery of the sick. For instance, the doctors have to diagnose patients and treat them, nurses have to keep checking the progress of the patients. The catering people have to ensure that patients are fed to ensure recovery. Thus all employees within the hospital are important for ensuring the quality of life for humanity. One aspect that is forgotten about these employees given their demanding work is that most of them are parents with children that require care like other children. The employees thus take their children to daycares and are forced to sometimes take some time off during the day to check on the progress of their children. In the event that such is not available, they may work with a lot of anxiety and fear about the progress of their children. The problem can be better addressed if hospitals could come up with day care for the employees within the hospital.
Registered nurses work alongside physicians providing patient care in a variety of ways. A few examples of what nurses are responsible for include: administering medications, tracking patient’s vital signs, helping to diagnose and properly treat patient aliments and educating the patient and their family on their condition and the course of treatment. Depending on what area of medicine a nurse works in will determine more generalized and specific duties and responsibilities. There are many different areas a nurse may work in. Some areas include: obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency room, and many more. Nurses can work in a variety of settings, these can include: hospitals, urgent cares, doctors office, nursing homes and home health.
Registered nurses have several duties and responsibilities that can range depending on the organization that they work for. Registered Nurse’s may be employed in physicians' offices, schools, hospitals, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, clinics, and even in prison settings. They are responsible to provide direct care to patients that are done under the order and supervision of a licensed health professional. The licensed healthcare professionals include physicians, nurse practitioners or physician's assistants. The daily actions of an RN may include receiving a patient assignment, assessment of each patient, administering medications, attending to patient needs, facilitating patient, assisting the physician with bedside procedures, monitoring laboratory results, and monitoring for any changes in condition. While on the job they might also encounter heavy lifting of patients, exposure to bodily fluids, and large amounts of time on feet. The amounts of hours they work depend on where they work. For example, hospital-based nurses mostly work a total of 3 twelve-hour shifts per week while a office-based nurse usually works 5 days a week for a total of 40 hours.
Non care workers are that who are working outside the normal immediate care environment. They can make an influence on infection prevention through each direct or indirect contact with the care environment and the people who work within it. If at some stages, the non-workers may come to meet people at their workplace, so they need to know the safety measure that they should take, for example if a client has some type of infectious disease.
