to an admired person. My personal definition of honor is someone who sticks to what they believe or say, or did something good and is respected for it. Such as how Carl Sagan who was honored for all the books he wrote and his show Cosmos, which The definition of honor is respect that is given still remains one of the most watched tv series in television history. In 1934 Carl Sagan was born November 9th in Brooklyn, New York. Sagan is the oldest of two children. When Carl was five his mom sent him to the library to get a book of the stars. Soon after his parents took him to the New York World’s Fair where his interest grew larger. In 1952 Sagan graduated high school at the age of 16. He then headed to the university of Chicago. This international nonprofit organization focused on space exploration and launched a Tv series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage in which he wrote and hosted. He wrote a book to accompany the Tv series. He then wrote a sequel to Cosmos called Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space. His work was inspired by the famous photograph of the Pale Blue Dot. It shows Earth as just a speck in space. To discuss humanity’s place in the vast universe Sagan uses the Voyager 1 probe photo. To further his political goals he uses both his statuses as celebrity and scientist. He also launched a campaign for nuclear disarmament and was a vocal opponent for Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative. He co-wrote a paper that introduced the concept of “nuclear winter” in 1983. The following year he co-authored a book called The Cold and the Dark: The World After Nuclear War. Over the course of Carl Sagan’s career he was honored several times. He received NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Medal in 1977 and 1981 and the National Academy of Sciences’ Public Welfare Medal in 1994. Honor can be from saluting a flag to helping the helpless, but to me the greatest honor is being able to honor my family wherever life takes me. With honor, a person has a fixed place from which to create a life. Though it may not be the fastest, the
The dictionary definition of honor is high respect. I agree with that definition because when someone says they honor another, they are saying that they respect them.
What is honor? Honor stated in the dictionary says it is, “honesty, fairness, or integrity in one's beliefs and actions.” However what is honor to others? What does one person need to do to be considered honorable? Does that person need to be a hero, or can they be a normal civilian?
In our day and age the word honor can mean many different things to different people. The general definition of honor is, a person who is respected, has integrity, is fair and just, hard working, kind, of good moral character, and loyal to the end of time. A person who holds this position of high esteem knows what is being asked of them, and take their service to heart. I feel that honor must be earned and that while not a fragile thing, it can be lost just as easily. We, as Americans, show honor to those who have served, or are currently serving our country. We award them for giving of their time and for sacrificing their comforts to protect all of us. In the past we, as Americans, would teach our children to show respect (honor) to their
The textbook definition of honor is to fulfill an obligation or to keep an agreement. When a person has received the title of having honor, they have earned respect from other people. This applies throughout a whole lifetime whether you know it or not. It could even happen that you could not be considered to have honor until you have died. In her novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows many signs of honor. She presents how adults can have honor and still not have the respect of the community around them, due to certain ways such as Maycomb’s usual disease. This book demonstrates the prejudice being shown in a small southern town and how some people are willing to protect them in ways that are honorable. The characters, Atticus Finch and
Bill Nye was born on November 27, 1955 and was raised in Washington, D.C. He attended a middle class school until his hard work earned him a scholarship. From there he attended Cornell University. Upon graduation, he worked for the Boeing Company, and eventually worked his way up to becoming a comedy show writer and performer. He went on to get his own show, Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Honor can mean many different things to individual people. The official definition of honor states “ a high respect or esteem”. My definition of honor is someone who has done something to earn respect in a community.
Honor. By dictionary definition the word honor means “high respect”1 but this definition does not even begin to give justice to the word. Honor is so much more than simply high respect; Honor is having integrity and doing what is right. It is keeping your promises. Honor is about showing respect to those who have passed away and performing selfless acts. A person’s definition of honor may consist of all these things and it also may consist of many other elements. Honors significance to a person is based on multiple different things including conformity, a person’s age and what there American dream is.
In the dictionary honor is defined as high respect or esteem. I believe that honor is doing something that helps other people even though it may not benefit them. Leonardo da Vinci was a very honorable man. He was honorable because his work was truly ground breaking and helped many people but he did not receive any prestigious awards because in his time they did not have awards for scientific discoveries. He brought us out of the dark ages and gave us a head start on where we are today.
The definition of honor is the great respect, fairness, honesty to someone’s beliefs, (Dictionary.com). My view of honor is showing respect to someone and doing something for someone else before you. I believe that an example of someone who is honorable is the great German scientist Albert Einstein. Albert Einstein accomplished many great things that prove he was an honorable person.
Honor means high respect; esteem, or to regard with great respect. Honor to me means to have earned great respect or to have done something positive for others. Galileo Galilei is said to have set the foundation for modern science he even earned the nickname of “The Father of Modern Science”, he supported the copernican theory, which states that the planets revolve around the sun, and later found evidence that supported that theory. Galileo also invented a telescope which he was given a salary to manufacture several of them for Venetian merchants. And even though he was accused twice of heresy by the church for his beliefs, he wrote books about his finds and his beliefs. He made major contributions to many fields of science such as physics,
Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy on February 15, 1564 and was named after his ancestor Galileo Bonaiuti who was a physician, professor, and politician. His parents were Giulia Ammannati and Vincenzo Galilei, a famous lutenist, composer, and music theorist. He was the first born of six children of which three of his five siblings survived infancy. He started his education at the young age of 8 at the Camaldolese Monastery at Vallombrosa, which brought a close connection to the Christian religion.
Since the dawn of time, man has yearned to know the origin of existence, how life was started, and the source of creation. Many scientists, from ancient Greece to modern civilization, began the search for answers by first studying our solar system, mapping the stars, trying to unlock their secrets. These eight scientists paved the way for any basic knowledge of the universe.
