The dictionary definition of honor is high respect. I agree with that definition because when someone says they honor another, they are saying that they respect them.

What is honor? Honor stated in the dictionary says it is, “honesty, fairness, or integrity in one's beliefs and actions.” However what is honor to others? What does one person need to do to be considered honorable? Does that person need to be a hero, or can they be a normal civilian?

In our day and age the word honor can mean many different things to different people. The general definition of honor is, a person who is respected, has integrity, is fair and just, hard working, kind, of good moral character, and loyal to the end of time. A person who holds this position of high esteem knows what is being asked of them, and take their service to heart. I feel that honor must be earned and that while not a fragile thing, it can be lost just as easily. We, as Americans, show honor to those who have served, or are currently serving our country. Honor can mean many different things to individual people. The official definition of honor states “ a high respect or esteem”. My definition of honor is someone who has done something to earn respect in a community.

Honor. By dictionary definition the word honor means “high respect”1 but this definition does not even begin to give justice to the word. Honor is so much more than simply high respect; Honor is having integrity and doing what is right. It is keeping your promises. Honor is about showing respect to those who have passed away and performing selfless acts. A person’s definition of honor may consist of all these things and it also may consist of many other elements. Honors significance to a person is based on multiple different things including conformity, a person’s age and what there American dream is.

In the dictionary honor is defined as high respect or esteem. I believe that honor is doing something that helps other people even though it may not benefit them. Leonardo da Vinci was a very honorable man. He was honorable because his work was truly ground breaking and helped many people but he did not receive any prestigious awards because in his time they did not have awards for scientific discoveries. He brought us out of the dark ages and gave us a head start on where we are today.

The definition of honor is the great respect, fairness, honesty to someone’s beliefs, (Dictionary.com). My view of honor is showing respect to someone and doing something for someone else before you. I believe that an example of someone who is honorable is the great German scientist Albert Einstein. Albert Einstein accomplished many great things that prove he was an honorable person.

Honor means high respect; esteem, or to regard with great respect. Honor to me means to have earned great respect or to have done something positive for others. Galileo Galilei is said to have set the foundation for modern science he even earned the nickname of “The Father of Modern Science”, he supported the copernican theory, which states that the planets revolve around the sun, and later found evidence that supported that theory. His parents were Giulia Ammannati and Vincenzo Galilei, a famous lutenist, composer, and music theorist. He was the first born of six children of which three of his five siblings survived infancy. He started his education at the young age of 8 at the Camaldolese Monastery at Vallombrosa, which brought a close connection to the Christian religion.

     Since the dawn of time, man has yearned to know the origin of existence, how life was started, and the source of creation. Many scientists, from ancient Greece to modern civilization, began the search for answers by first studying our solar system, mapping the stars, trying to unlock their secrets. These eight scientists paved the way for any basic knowledge of the universe.
