UnitedHealth Group, a Fortune 500 company, serves over seventy million U.S. citizens by providing diversified managed health care via two functioning businesses, UnitedHealthcare and Optum. As a worldwide leader, UHG strives to assist people in living healthier lives in this ever-changing healthcare environment (UHG 2015). Currently, the mission and vision statement appear merged into one statement as follows: “Our mission is to help people live healthier lives and to help make the health system work better for everyone. We seek to enhance the performance of the health system and improve the overall health and well being of the people we serve and their communities. We work with health care professionals and other key partners to expand access to quality health care so people get the care they need at an affordable price. We support the physician/patient relationship and empower people with the information, guidance and tools they need to make personal health choices and decisions” (UnitedHealth Group 2015). Evaluation of the UnitedHealth Group’s statements provided valuable information, however exhibited areas for improvement in the vision and mission statements of the company. Vision Vision statements allow insight into a company exhibiting the goals of a company (Hull 2012). The UnitedHealth Group vision is incorporated into the published, lengthy mission statement.
