Robster Sparkey, Finance Director, NGE The team has had the opportunity to undertake the assignment of studying the two companies; namely, BHP Billiton plc and Antofagasta plc. For the purposes of this assignment, the team has thoroughly scrutinised the annual reports and financial statements for both companies from the years 2011 to 2015. It was not possible to study the annual reports and financial statements for 2016 for both companies as it turns out their fully published information was unavailable. Only the half year reports were available which the team concluded that scrutinising half-yearly information may be incomplete and may offer predictions that may have a large variances from reality. The previous 5 years should provide an indication of the direction each of these companies are undertaking, their aspirations, and their wealth maximisation ambitions for shareholders. BHP Billiton Introduction BHP Billiton is a large multi-national corporation involved in the mining and production of various metals and petroleum components. The company has two subsidiaries namely; BHP Billiton Limited listed on the Australian Stock Exchance (ASX) and BHP Billiton plc listen on the FTSE 100 of the London Stock Exchange. As a large global organisation BHP Billiton prides itself on valuing the host communities which it operates in.
