Burton has used the social environment to embody the values and attitudes of snowboarders world-wide. Burton has made snowboarding a way of life. While people were talking about the boards Burton created, the company concentrated on making the sport of snowboarding great and recognized by all. How better to drive sales then to give away some free stuff? * Burton Academy is an online snowboarding experience and talks about the founders and has a written and photo outline about the methodology of snowboarding. * Burton has signature snowboards which are designed with and for 1 professional rider. The rider influences everything from the board design, technical specs, to the graphics. Pro models come in 1 size specific to the rider and their style of riding. Sometimes an entire board series is developed from one pro-model such as Shannon Dunn’s “Feelgood” series. Only a few select riders reach this level of sponsorship that results in a signature snowboard but it addresses the social environment that riders want to snowboard and be recognized for their accomplishments.
