sites in the Laurel Highlands. Developing a hotel in the town of California would inevitably cause distance decay for the guests. Meaning, travelers who want to visit the Ohiopyle and Laurel Highland region or Pittsburgh, would most likely choose the lodging establishment that is a shorter distance to where they want to visit. For example, the website for the California Hampton Inn lists visiting Fallingwater as something to do while you stay with them, but it takes 48 minutes for a 39.8 mile drive. It does not make sense for someone to drive almost an hour from the California Hampton Inn to see an attraction, when they could simply reserve a room at a closer hotel in Uniontown or on the mountain.

(FRENT, C. (2016)) While tourism can positively impact economically speaking, there can also be a negative economic impact. Prices will inevitably inflate. The cost of food will rise which unfortunately negatively affects the people who live in that community. The resources that the hotel requires will be taking away from other things that could have used those resources. For example, governmental support for the infrastructure could take away resources from more important areas such as health and education. (UNEP, 2016b, FRENT, C. (2016)) The California Area School District should not suffer over a new hotel that is not needed in the first place. An important factor to think about is that people do not want to depend on tourism to keep their community economically stable. (FRENT, C. (2016)) The main reason for this being, the tourism industry is not fully reliable. In order to have a tourism industry, tourists are needed to fill hotel rooms. Many factors affect this such as the income of the traveler. When pay cuts, lay offs, and unemployment affect people, they simply will not have the extra cash to take a vacation and put their money into tourism. It is said that relying on agriculture is the safer bet because people will always have the need to eat. (FRENT, C. (2016)) The median household income in 1999 in …show more content…
A seemingly simple problem yet important to a travelers experience is parking. (FRENT, C. (2016))California, Pennsylvania offers parallel parking spots on the streets, which one pays with change to park there. This space is limited. There would be parking at a hotel, but unless there is a shuttle to drop you off and pick you up from where you want to go in California, or it was within walking distance, the need to extra parking spaces would be necessary. California University of Pennsylvania does offer a decent amount of parking, but unless the traveler is going to an event there, visiting the college, or has a parking pass, they would not be allowed to park in any of the lots, besides a pay by day lot, and would risk getting a $25 fine. Another concern with parking would be the locals and their annoyance by tourists taking up all of the
Nestled in the Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg has become an area that East Tennessee State University students go to visit. Gatlinburg offers something for many; however, the city has some growing pains such as traffic and limited space. Thus, the city of Gatlinburg offers many things that a traveler could need and want, provided that he or she is willing to overlook the city’s rapid growth.
Tourism also has its costs/down-sides. One of the social costs to the community because of tourism is that it may attract visitors whose lifestyles and ideas may conflict with the community’s (which commonly happens throughout the world, a good example of this can be seen in the settling of North America, and the effect it had on the Native Americans). Tourism could also lead to the overloading of porters which would lead to health problems. A loss of traditional values and culture is a possible outcome as well, through imitation of visitor behavior or

Tourist traps and souvenir shops, if poorly placed, can ruin the beauty of nature. Touristry continues to plague America today, as it did in the 60’s. For example, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, as pictured below. Tennessee hosts the Great Smoky Mountains, but tourist traps fill Gatlinburg
The long term dispute over which is better, east coast vs. west coast, will undoubtedly continue until this country no longer exists. While both coasts offer travelers and natives a variety of places to eat, things to do, and places to see, California, North Carolina, and South Carolina want to put their states on the map with their interesting history and ways of living. Due to so much variety on each coast, there is something on each side for everyone. More often than not, people picture California and the Carolinas to be polar opposites. This way of thinking comes from the idea that Hollywood, the city of dreams, consumes California entirely. Consequently, travelers must dig deep to find the hidden gems throughout each state. There will always be more than what meets the eye.

Tourism is a very large driving force for the economy of Mendocino county. Lodging, bars and restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations/convenience stores, and retail/shopping stores are the groups of businesses that feel the impact of the 306.6 million dollars’ tourists spend in the county every year. Money spent from tourism has many social impacts such as identity and pride in the community which keep residents in the area, increased migration to the area for those seeking a better life for themselves, and opportunities for growth for small businesses which also enable a “way in” for potential new residence to the
I have chosen to compare my home state of South Carolina with one of the biggest tourist attractive states in America, Nevada. Las Vegas attracts millions of people to the state yearly, famously known for a place called the strip which is a fascination to see at first site. In the meantime, the locals conditions lived in statewide are less glamorous. Data indicates the state of Nevada has issues, as do South Carolina with all of its marvelous heritage.
In the year 2000, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company paired with luxury real estate developer Millennium Partners to build a $225 million hospitality complex in the heart of Washington DC. This 300-room hotel was set to be the first out of a six-hotel deal between these two companies. The structure of the deal was that Millennium Partners would be the owners of the properties and The Ritz-Carlton would manage them.
Sandy beaches, movie stars, golf courses, warm weather and mansions. These are just a few of the things that come to mind when someone thinks about the state of California. Popular culture has taken the 2nd largest state in the lower 48 of the US and made it into sort of an otherworldly land, a place where nothing can go wrong, a place where the sun shines high in the sky each and every day and a place where Mercedes - Maybachs seen driving their morning commute is not an abnormal sight. Our trip had some of these amazing traits, but some things about it were very, very different.
