There are few real life case examples that are related to Excoriation Disorder. A 14 years old girl who was a student has the same disorder. He was itching and scratching her body parts repetitively and she does this behaviour mostly when she is free and bored. There was a interview done with the girl and her parents and found out that her father too have the same behaviour. There were plaques over her arms and chin due to the skin picking behaviour (Odlaug BL, 2008). There is another similar case which is also a real life case which is a 12 years old girl started picking skin from her nail cuticle until it starts to bled. When she was trying to be helped and asked why she did it she says it helps her to overcome stress. She repetitively does that 3 hours a day and went to the extreme and start having skin lesion. She then started to avoid a family and feel uncomfortable in public then brought in for help by a family friend (Majlikar.R, 2008). …show more content…
There are few current treatment that can be provided to those who have this Excoriation disorder. The individual who have this skin picking disorder could go for behavioural treatments or called as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which can be really helpful. In behavioural treatment they are being trained with the habit reversal training and mindfulness based CBT. This helps the individual to identify their picking behaviours pattern which they mean by doing it unconsciously and make them realize it and understand it. Habit Reversal training also helps them to block their habit in such like wearing gloves which actually is a barrier from picking on their skin (Lang,

I think that this is a major warning sign that could relate to mental health concerns because when people start cutting, they tend to be in a very low point in their life. When in a low point of life, your mental health is quite poor and it could lead to developing a mental illness. Another warning sign was when she started drinking bleach. Once her parents found out they rushed her to the hospital, taking the right precautions. But I think once witnessing her drinking bleach (trying to kill herself), it was a major sign that something was affecting her mental health and she needed help to
Acute exacerbation of COPD is a medical diagnosis, and therefore is significant to eliminate additional conditions which causes hypoxia and respiratory failure. In this case, pulmonary embolism which could be present in almost a fifth of patients been admitted to hospital who suffer from COPD exacerbation, and therefore it can aggravate an abnormal deficit in the concentration of oxygen in arterial blood which could be causing further V/Q mismatching (ventilation perfusion ratio). Moreover, additional conditions which causes acidosis, reduced tissue perfusion, or increased tissue oxygen requirements, notably systemic sepsis or cardiogenic shock, can also aggravate respiratory failure in COPD patients therefore, must be treated properly. Being ambushed by an abrasion on our skin whether it be a pimple, a scar, or something with greater depth such as malignant melanoma can cause quite the adrenaline rush. Diseases of the integumentary system are just as life threating but can be even more mind boggling than a disease occurring internally. For a person to actually see the change in their skin while taking steps to cure it on their own with home remedies and skin care treatments just to find out that the disease is beyond just a simple “break-out” or rash can cause other problems such as stress and insecurity. The integumentary system fights as a barrier to protect the skin and also excrete waste, diseases sometimes hinder this system from doing its main job; which is defending

The proper therapeutic approach regarding Mr. Udall would consist of a combination of exposure and response prevention (ERP) based behavior therapy (BT) and pharmacotherapy consisting of serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRI). “Currently, behavior therapy that focuses on exposure and response prevention is the psychological treatment of choice of OCD” (Olatunji, Rosenfield, Tart, Cottraux, Powers, Smits, 2013, p. 415). Treatment primarily consists of reverse the habit or intervention. What has been effective is helping patients become aware of their behaviors and supplying them with an alternate habit to replace their behaviors. These treatments are successful at affecting the severity

Warning signs for self-mutilation can be wearing covering clothing when it is warm out, and not letting people touch where they might be cutting themselves. It was once believed that people who self injure were just doing it for attention but recent studies have proven otherwise. A quote from the research from the CASE study in Europe stated that “The findings of this study show that adolescents who deliberately self-harm often report both cry of pain and cry for help motives. The majority of youngsters wanted to get relief from a terrible state of mind and/ or wanted to die with their act of self-harm. Although the study shows that there is also a cry for help, this type of motive seems to be less prominent than the cry of pain, which is inconsistent with the popular notion that adolescents deliberate self-harm is ‘only’ a cry for help (Scoliers, 2009). With this knowledge we need to make sure we help the children who are not only doing it to
Self-harm also known as self-injury, self-abuse, self-mutilation occurs when someone internationally and repeatedly harms herself/himself in a way that is impulsive and not intended to be lethal. “Self harm, often referred to as cutting”. Cutting is an self-injurious behavior where a student uses a sharp object such as: a razor blade and a knife to inflict physical pain. Although cutting is one of the most common and well documented forms, there are many things people do to hurt themselves (Bells 1). Self-harming behavior can include variety of methods of self injury (pearlman 1). Studies have documented over 16 forms of self-injury and there may well be more than that (Bells 1). Most common methods are scratching, burning, carving, hitting, punching or pulling out hair. Self-injury can be and is performed on any part of the body, but most often occurs on the hands, wrists, stomach and thighs. The severity of the act can vary from superficial wounds to those resulting in lasting disfigurement (Bells
In this paper we will be discussing the different Nail Diseases and Disorders. Not only will we be focusing on whom it may occur in, but how it happened, how you can prevent it and the treatment that is required. Any nail disease or disorder could happen to anyone but what can you do to prevent a future breakout? While nail diseases occur in people who simply don't practice proper hygiene, people with diabetes or vascular problems often deal with our first disorder.
