Critical Insight Paper The process of Evidence Based Practice is not truly complete until research translation occurs. Research translation is the transfer of research to the clinical setting where practices can be implemented, evaluated, and communicated. Research is produced and published at high rates while changes in education and practice are slow (Doody, 2011). There are multiple research translation models that attempt to close the gap between research and practice. These models utilize research evidence to improve quality of nursing care. One of these models is the Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Quality Care (Polit & Bech, 2012).
Overview of Model
The Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Quality Care was developed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by a group of clinicians, including Marita Titler. Titler is a Registered Nurse and the director of research, quality, and outcomes for nursing services at these hospitals. The Model was developed in an effort to clarify the steps needed to improve quality of care by putting evidence based practice findings into practice (Titler, 2007). It was originally developed as a research utilization model then revised to focus on research implementation at the organizational level (Schaffer, Kristin E. Sandau, & Diedrick, 2012).
