The Cronulla beach environment features a variety of issues that are both physical and human related; the most prominent issues are erosion, inappropriate development and also pollution. However despite the many issues present at Cronulla, there are a variety of coastal management strategies being administered in order to combat these problems that have a potentiating threat on the beach biome. The predominant strategies used to counter these problems are Seabee walls, Seawalls, and also signage, bins and fences; and these five solutions each have advantages and disadvantages, which ultimately prove whether or not, the strategy itself is successful.

Galveston Island is rich in history and has population history that archeologist have dated back to Native Americans. It was settled by Europeans and established as a port for the Republic of Mexico. It was rich in immigration and dominated trade. It has a history of turmoil caused by war and natural disasters. Galveston Island formed as a typical barrier island. Galveston’s formation took place 5000 years ago, as wind and wave energy along with rising sea water levels moved sand around to form the island. The wave and wind energy is indicative of storm surge often caused by hurricane interaction. The building up of Galveston Island continued until 3000 years ago. The coastal shoreline continues to change and those changes appear to be happening more rapidly than once believed. There are several things that impact the changing shoreline of Galveston Island including; changes in sea level, subsidence, erosion, and destruction of coastal protections like dunes, marshes, and wetlands, all of which are highly impacted by powerful storms and hurricanes.

There were a total of 48 counties that were studied along the Gulf Coast. These counties were used as the regions for how each state was subdivided. The coastal regions were made of 22 regions in Florida, 2 regions in Alabama, 3 regions in Mississippi, 9 regions in Louisiana, and 12 regions in Texas. When the entire coastline of Florida was studied, Florida has 1,350 miles of coastline. There are 35 counties that are along the coastline of Florida. One additional county was used that is not along the coastline as there was a shark bite at a Disney park.
