Discussion question 1:

The problem with Maples Leaf Shoes Ltd. was that the company did not have an experienced, qualified, skilled and knowledgeable manager to deal with the company’s day-to-day human resource activities like union negotiation and recruitment. A human resource manager plans strategies and handles the short and long-term challenges facing the company’s increasing global completion, increasing labor and production cost, managerial training and development for employees.

Must include knowledge of Excel and skills in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS). Personality traits like honesty, ethics, discretion and fair-mindedness rank high among the personal attributes needed for the future human resource manager. The manager should be an active listener, delegator, motivator, approachable, trusted adviser, developer and a decision maker. Apart from that HR professionals must be computer-literate and familiar with a variety of software programs used for scheduling, payroll, benefits administration, recruitment and reporting. The future manager should have global intelligence and technological savvy in order to contribute and manage the company.

Discussion question 2:

In the selection process of the HR Manager, four applicants Michael Anderson, Arthur Dougherty, Jane Reynolds and Steven Robinson were called for an interview. Based on their resumes and interviews and the factors identified, I would rate Steven Robinson the highest followed by Arthur Dougherty, Jane Reynolds and Michael Anderson i.e. 9, 8, 7 and 6 on a scale of 10 respectively.

Based on Steven Robinson’s resume his education, job skills, experience and other competences fit (P – O fit and P – J fit) the organizations requirements and the job requirements better than the other candidates.
