If I could be involved in any service organization, I would choose the Nampa Boys and Girls Club. After doing the research for this paper, I started to become very passionate about this organization. There are a lot of things I love, but two of them are: art and children. Working with this organization, I would be able to do art projects with the kids and combine those things together, by doing art projects with the children and teens. This could also fit in with my academics, due to the fact that I am a graphic design major. Also, I would have plenty of time opportunities to serve at the Boys and Girls Club. This is an after school program that starts at 2:30p.m. and I do not have class after 3:00p.m. On those days I could be an hour late,
The boys and girls club have been serving children for 150 years. They have given their helping hand to millions of kids worldwide. The Boys and Girls club’s mission has always been “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The Boys and Girl’s club was formed to assist underprivileged children or children who do not live in the best environment. This organization possesses a numerous amount of goals and achievements they want for each child in the program. They provide a safe and fun environment; help create skills for the future and help children build relationships with positive adults. In addition the
Jacob Portman, a 16 year old boy, was very close to his grandfather as a child. His grandfather would show him pictures of strange people and places, and would tell Jacob fascinating stories about them. One particular story was about an old orphanage full of "peculiar" children, who all had something special, or peculiar, about them. He believed these stories as a child, but his father convinced him they were all just part of his grandfather's imagination. One day at work, however, Jacob received a distress call from his grandfather saying that "they" were here. Jacob rushes to his grandfathers house with the hopes of calming him down, and sees that the house was trashed. He eventually found his grandfather in the woods. He was near dead and
Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is a countrywide organization of local subdivisions that provide after-school programs for young people. The purpose of BGCA is to provide young people with a safe environment during weekends and after school. As a non-profit organization, Boys and Girls Clubs of America run after-school clubs that serves over 4 million children across 3,400 facilities throughout 50 states and Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The organization also has 150 clubs located on the Native American tribal lands as well as another 400 clubs located in military bases that are spread across the globe. Since its inception, the organization and its predecessors have been tackling juvenile delinquency for more than 100 years. In order to accomplish this objective, BGCA opens the clubs on a daily basis after school and during weekends. These clubs are managed by full-time youth development professionals who are supported by volunteers in the community. Despite of its activities revolving around sports and recreational activities, BGCA provide programs that focus on health and life skills, character and leadership development, computer skills, and arts.
In this regard, the most important part of service to me personally is giving back to the community. Volunteering is my way of providing service to others, it is not only effective, but it’s a good way to meet people, to learn, and to develop social skills. By helping or supporting others, I learned and used new skills in communicating with people and I have gained confidence in myself through different interactions. Providing aid to a family in need or helping out an elementary teacher is necessary, because as people it should be our natural tendencies to support one another, and bring aid when aid is due. For example, at Seven Lakes High school I created the Girls for Krause Club. It was given the name the Girls for Krause club after the Krause Center; a center in Katy that fosters girls who have been taken out of their homes due to sexual harassment, parental mistreatment or mental issues. My first visit to the Krause Center was with my youth group at church. I was so touched by all the girls at the center, and how open they were about their situation. I remember one of the girls telling me thank you, for treating her like “a regular person.” This interaction gave me the incentive to create the Krause club, because I wanted to allow other girls my age to interact with these girls and bring attention to a center that wasn’t well known in my community. Moreover, creating the Krause club has been rewarding and a way to showcase
I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.
1.) Understanding the composition of your board and the history and culture of your organization, how would you go about laying the groundwork for the significant changes you believe need to be undertaken?Â
For my community service activity, I have chosen to participate in SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club. It is an organization to empowering students to make better decisions in life. As a member, I will discourage the usage of bad habits by students in peaceful ways and promote programs. Something I will do is funding for people in need, make a poster for Breast Cancer and other programs, and advise students to make the right choices in life. By my participation, I will be able to promote a student to make the right decisions and staying positive in high school and in the future.
For my volunteer experience I chose to go to YMCA which stands for Young Men’s Christian Association. Their mission is to make a healthy body, mind and spirit through their Christian principles. Their main focus in on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The reason I chose YMCA is because I try to live a healthy lifestyle and as that is their mission at YMCA it will be interesting to see what I will learn when I volunteer. Before the experience I thought I would volunteer by fundraising for a cause they support or help provide services in the gym. I also thought I might work with customers in the front desk. I was hoping to work with the children in the sports teams to help coach and teach them more about the sport.
In todays society there are many things that people can be involved in. One is volunteering. Local organizations around my community are always looking for people to come in and help volunteer with the young and the old. A local Boys and Girls club is one that I volunteer at when ever I get a chance to. Volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club has allowed me to help the boys and girls to have a safe place to come learn and grow while having fun. It is a place where young people can come and know someone cares about them. Volunteering makes a difference in the lives of boys and girls in the community. (Volunteer1) Volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club has taught me more about the organization, what a volunteer does, and what I can learn from volunteering.
First of all, there are the services I do currently. As a member of my high school’s branch of the National Honors Society, I volunteer and assist in creating not only a better school, but a better community as well. For example, though I was participating in this event eight years prior to my induction, I assist in the Crop Walk on behalf of the National Honors Society. This charity, which culminates with a several mile walk throughout the town, is meant to raise money in order to assist in the funding of initiatives to eliminate malnutrition and hunger throughout the world, including local endeavors like food banks. By participating in this organization, I am able to aid in the goal to terminate this problem. In addition, I am also a part (and currently president of) my local high school’s Student
I have been involved with several service activities throughout my life. Some of the more recent services that I have participated in include: Helping set up and helping teach underprivileged children at the Children's Defense Fund Freedom School. Here I volunteered my time during the summer helping set up the classrooms and supplies, moving and unpacking and organizing; supplies, food, and donations the summer program. I also helped out this summer program by checking people in and out, guiding and directing people where to go, and unload and load the children onto the busses. During the summer I also volunteered a week of my time to be a “buddy” to a special olympiad at their Special Olympics Athletic Retreat. Being a “buddy” included self regulation, chaperoning on field trips one on one, assisted with self care skills when they where needed. Also this summer I volunteered my time for four weeks being a counselor in training at the Stowe YMCA. This included reading to the campers, helping serve meals to the campers, Chaperoning on field trips with the campers and being camp counselors to campers in grades pre-k through fifth grade. I also have been participating on my temple’s youth group advisory board. There I help determine, plan, organize, and run group activities and social events for the youth groups. I have been doing this for the past three years. This group also partakes in several community service projects throughout the
As a second year National Honor Society student, the last couple of years I have been more focused on ways I can help my community to help get all my service hours in for the end of my high school NHS career. I’ve always loved doing little things to help someone who needs it but I never thought about the things that I do everyday count just as much as the other things. Community service to me, is more than just holding the door open for someone, picking up trash, or helping someone with their groceries. I want to help people grow and be a better person while serving my community. I want to do more than volunteer, I want to impact the lives of people and I feel that is what I have done.
the National Junior Honor Society because I want to help other people out through our roles in charity and community service.
Since the lesson describes this practically nowhere, I may as well type this instead of searching for random sentences. What mental health workers must understand is how severe the crime is and how old the victim is. These are two key factors that change the way you initially approach the victim. Mental health workers must also show empathy towards the victim, they also need to make the victim feel safe and secure. The victim of a crime must be able to become comfortable and trust you. One of the best things you can do is to ask basic questions about everyday things. This creates comfort and doesn't trigger a victim. If you try to jump directly into the serious questions first, you will make the victim
The most interesting ways that people honor the dead to me is, eat the dead because they will always have them with them. If you are willing to eat another dead person in memory of them then that’s awesome. I mean sacrificing the three meat pizza is terrible it is all flaky. But if you eat them I’m sure you will remember them as a core moment. But if you lived in an age where people die like flies then you would eat a lot of people.
