1. The service being introduced is a “Book Café”; a coffeehouse that accommodates an in-house bookstore. This concept has been a huge success all over the world, and it is time that the idea is promoted on a larger scale, here in the United Arab Emirates. This coffeehouse would function like any other coffee shop; serving hot and cold beverages like a variety of teas and coffees, baked goods like cakes, muffins and cookies, sandwiches and wraps, all of which would be prepared fresh daily. The only twist would be a book lounge within the shop, where customers can enjoy a wide range of books for reading while savoring comfort food. The Book Café will follow a self-service policy; customers will be able to choose and pick up food items themselves, then place an order for their choice of beverage, which will be prepared by our staff and then served to them. From this we can estimate that the café would need about 5 employees, each working on one of the following designations: a) Café Manager – His/her main duty would be to supervise the smooth running of the café. He/she will be answerable to customers’ queries and requirements at all times. Thus we would require someone with experience is a managerial position, who also has good leadership and communication skills. Since this is the highest post in the café, approximate salary = AED 1,800 per month. b) Book Store Manager – He/she will manage the Book Lounge; provide customers with information on books available, assist them in locating their desired books and make sure that every customer is satisfied. Thus we would require someone with good knowledge of books and other literary scripts available at the Book Lounge, he/she must also have good communication skills. This post can be fulfilled by a recent graduate, realistically, with a degree in English
