Motivation is a key factor when it comes to general performance in any given situation, whether it’s performance at work, school, or any sort of activity, such as sports or video games. It is what pushes us to put in the amount of effort needed to successfully perform and achieve our personal goals and tasks. The situation described in the Brewster-Seaview Landscaping Co. case study happens more often than not, and not only in landscaping companies. In almost every job, there is a hierarchy of employees that ultimately lead to the top of the pyramid, the head boss. It is safe to say that at each level of the hierarchy, not everyone is perfect and liked. There is always that one supervisor or boss that does the complete opposite of motivating, but instead demoralize their team. The workers have found themselves in a situation where last summer they were in high spirits and loved their work environment, but fast forward to …show more content…
Joe should also ensure that the supervisors do not take this as a sign of urgency and force their crew to work even harder with less freedom. The supervisors should then change the system they had in place to make it more enjoyable for their workers. The hour of lunch provided should not be set in stone, but instead be flexible. Tolerance in coming into work in the morning should also be flexible as it is best for employees to get to work safely rather than rush and get hurt on the way. As well as the changes noted earlier, their workers should be able to have fun working around each other again and get to know their customers. Joe was big on helping his employees work, as he did the physical work alongside them, so the supervisors should humble themselves and help out their crew once in a while. This short term action plan should improve the immediate overall effectiveness of Brewster-Seaview
Employee motivation is, or at least must be, one of the key issues for directors, managers and personnel managers. The leader must be able to find the sensitive strings of his subordinates, which can be motivated by influencing them to achieve high performance. The correct use of motivation encourages staff to make more efficient use of their knowledge, skills, and talents. In today's turbulent, often chaotic environment, commercial success depends on the employee's talent and effort. Despite the many existing theories and practices, some of the motivation of leaders today remains a mystical term. This is partly due to the fact that people are motivated by different things and techniques.
The levels of motivation within a team can be affected both positively and negatively in a variety of different ways.
There is a big problem in my community that I have wanted to fix for years now. The areas I have leaved in people yards have not looked up to par. People complain how they want their yards fix with beautiful flowers that would make there yard stand out in the neighborhood. This is why I came up with a solution to fix every ones problem. I came up with Anthony Lawn Inc. We are a company that will come out and fix your yard with love and care. We want you to come out your house and look at your yard and say wow that’s my yard, too have something to be proud of.
All employees analyze their environment and strive to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work and dedication they put into the company, in a word they are seeking justice. Justice can be defined as a person receiving what they feel they are entitled to and if they do not receive what they deserve the situation may board on injustice. Unfortunately in today’s society justice and appreciation are not given out to all those deserving (Pinder, 1998). A major problem to address is how to keep the motivation level high in a company when the employees do not feel appreciated.
Each leadership style from the three supervisors affects the motivation of their respective subordinates in different ways. Carol’s style has created a group of motivated employees with Art and Bob’s groups left lacking motivation.
“Motivating Employees” is a book about how employee motivation is driven by companies that invest and grow their employees. One of the most important traits of highly effective and successful companies is that employees are happy and have fun at work. Leadership is not assaulting your employees, but to lead your employees you need to motivate by using caring,

“While Mangers complain about lack of motivation in their workers, they might as well consider the possibility that the reward systems they’ve installed are paying off for the opposite”.
Motivation in the workplace is one of the major concerns that managers face when trying to encourage their employees to work harder and do what is expected of them on a day-to-day basis. According to Organizational Behavior by John R. Schermerhorn, James G. Hunt and Richard N. Osborn the definition of motivation is "the individual forces that account for the direction, level, and persistence of a person's effort expended at work." They go on to say that "motivation is a key concern in firms across the globe." Through the years there have been several theories as to what motivates employees to do their best at work. In order to better understand these theories we will apply them to a fictitious organization that has the following
Because staff at Initech do not obtain worthwhile benefits or even see the proceeds of their hard work, which would act as motivator, they fail to feel their achievement or recognition. Moreover, the employees at Initech do not have means for self-actualization; they are neither encouraged nor allowed to realize their full potential, which Spitzer (1995, p. 7) argued could be fatal to the future of an organization. He argued that providing the staff with an environment of encouragement will make them realize their full potential consequently increasing the organization’s production. Sincerity of motivation is very fundamental as far as
According to Herzberg, the factors leading to job satisfaction are distinctly different from those that lead to job-dissatisfaction. Therefore, the managers who seek to eliminate factors that create job-dissatisfaction can bring about peace at the workplace but cannot motivate the employees. These factors are termed as hygiene factors comprising administration, supervision, working conditions, salary and wages etc. While absence of hygiene factors will lead to dissatisfaction, mere presence of these factors will not satisfy (i.e. motivate) the employees. In order to motivate the employees, managers must resort to ‘motivators’ (those factors that motivate the employees towards better performance) such as recognition, challenging assignment, responsibility, opportunities for growth and self-fulfillment etc.
Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology is devoted to the study of employee behavior in the workplace and understanding the issues facing organizations and employees in today’s complex and ever changing environment. Motivation refers to the set of forces that influence people to choose various behaviors among several alternatives available to them. An organization depends on the ability of management to provide a positive, fostering and motivating environment for its employees in order to increase profits, productivity and lower turnover rates of its employees. The purpose of this paper is to discuss and compare six academic journal articles and explore the behavior, job, and need based theories of motivation that can aid management in motivating and understanding their employees. Finding that delicate balance to can sometimes be elusive so effectively learning how to motivate by understanding, controlling and influencing factors to manipulate behavior and choices that are available to employees can produce the desired outcome.
