The Easter egg hunt was designed for children in the church community. Another event I volunteered in was making prayer blankets for the homeless. A prayer blanket is two pieces of fabric connected by knots, and with every knot tied, a prayer is said for the person the blanket is going to. I also participated in volunteering for the vet. Similarly, my family was a member of the Missouri House Rabbit Society and fostered a total of eight bunnies. We eventually adopted two bunnies named Shannon and Clover. I love to make a difference in my community, even if it was a small deed.
It is time to get the word out about the Smiling Soldier Project. We will depend on county’s involvement for the promotion of this project. We will request free advertising for our local radio stations and encourage the use of social networking sites to send the word out. Pounding the pavement looking for donations from local businesses will be crucial. We will depend on the church to assist in announcing our needs for donations, volunteers, and provided space for packaging. It is time to fetch your family, friends, classmates, teammates, neighbors, and church community to become
In 1992, not long after retiring, Dick walked down the road to visit the estate and returned home as a volunteer. “I came upon volunteering on accident,” he recalled. Dick devoted about 500 hours of his time each year until 2002 when he relieved Jack Evans as the Volunteer Manager. As he approached Evans’s record for the most hours volunteered, Dick was unsure if he wanted to unseat Evans. He cut back his volunteer time to avoid surpassing Evans, but Dick decided to beat the record because “I wasn’t ready to be done,” he admitted.
During the break the volunteers asked us several questions. From what I gathered all of the volunteers also need the assistance of the pantry. Many asked us how they could help us, assuming we had fallen on hard times. I assured them they we were just there to help them and donate our time. Volunteers receive each goods in their boxes in return for their help.

“We are Chicago's Jesuit Catholic university - a diverse community seeking God in all things and working to expand knowledge in the service of humanity through learning, justice, and faith.” In attempt to fulfill this mission as a student of Loyola University of Chicago, I decided to volunteer at the Lakeview Pantry. Personally, I believe that this was the most efficient way to effectively volunteer while being myself. I aim to either cultivate or participate in physical change, and at Lakeview, I could.
During this semester's service learning project, I chose to serve at a community organization called Church On Wheels, Breaking Bread Soup Kitchen. Every night Monday through Friday Breaking Bread opens its doors to the community and provides a meal at no cost. Their mission statement is simple: To carry the gospel of the Lord through feeding the hungry and helping those in need. With this Christ-like love to His people, every night employees and volunteers come together to provide a meal that does not only feed them physically but nourishes the soul of everyone that enters the doors. Within the city of Midland, Texas you will find a diverse culture and community. Due to the recent oil boom, many families found themselves struggling to put a meal on the table. Breaking Bread saw the need in the community to open the doors every night to see that no one would go hungry in our town. With a commitment to see that the poor and needy are served with the love of Christ. On any given night you can expect to find
There were more than a thousand registers and volunteers at that time. It was a warm Saturday morning, a perfect planning and everyone felt happy and excited for the good cause. I finished 2 miles run even though I have had a limited physical strength. Recently, I have visited the shelters and had a privilege to interview Manager who is in charge the place provided me as much information as I need. Thomas House supports approximately 135 to 150 individual per year within their current owned of 16 apartments. Last years, over 95% of their residents graduated from our program, 89% moved into their own house and 81% got full-time job. I know that many people are without deep pocket or even they work hard to make money for their lives. However, just image ourselves donate by registering for event running for homeless children. The amount Thomas House can get and they can help a single mom of two who came to US from a domestic violence. Thomas house has been able to provide her with an independent home-cleaning business. That's mean the provide them with a new beginning, and we are help her too. As everyone know no one has ever become poor from giving. Just imagine how happy she is with her children, and we feel good
The Salvation Army's history began in 1865 in London, England where it was founded by a minister named William Booth (Drucker, 1989). Today the Salvation Army can be found all over the world. It has provided disaster relief, spiritual support to those who ask, and also financial support for people needing the rent bank, the food bank and hydro. The Salvation Army generates its funds through donations and through their Salvation Army Thrift stores that they operate by selling used items. The money they raise is primarily used to fund their programs and services, like their summer camp and their Christmas basket program and their relief fund which helps cover the costs when a disaster strikes. The food bank is one of many additions to the Salvation
the united states, the salvation army served as being one of the greatest nonprofit organizations to aid in food, clothing, and shelter for those who were in need throughout all of America. “Today, the Salvation Army still operates in more than 75 countries around the globe. Including more added hospitals, donation centers, disaster services, rehabilitation centers, community centers, and thousands of voluntary contributions centers not only in America but throughout the world” (History.com, 2012). The Salvation Army prides in providing millions of families that are less fortunate with essentials that everyday middle class families take for granted. In addition, this action allows middle class people within their own community to open their hearts and give what they can, be little or nothing; would create a gigantic difference to those who are less fortunate. Throughout the centuries, the Salvation Army continues to a successful organization because they have the ability to provide a helping hand to everyone that is in need. The Salvation Army creates a gateway to wholehearted people who desire to help others less fortunate. The
Imagine walking by your favorite department store, you hear the familiar sound of a bell ringing. With the sound becoming louder, you can now see the famous red bucket and someone there to greet you with an enormous smile and a holiday cheer. The people of the Salvation Army aren’t there just around the holidays; they are actively collecting all year round. One of the oldest and most recognized charities also has the highest efficiencies. They reach millions of people all over the world. A monumental organization is characterized by providing for those in need, motivation to identify and eliminate the cause of that need and to bring the community closer.
On Monday, October 17th I volunteered to help the American Red Cross and other organizations at Purnell Swett High School. I was directed to a woman named Priscilla who oversaw a portion of the outdoor area. Our group was quite diverse. It consisted of young high school and college students, middle-aged parents, some senior citizens, and even a girl who appeared to be no more than nine years old. Everyone was in good spirits despite the recent tragedy. Our task seemed to be simple enough, however, we would soon discover it was going to take more planning. We were assigned to the rear of the school where we would sort through various bags and boxes of donations. Priscilla directed some of us to carry items to different rooms based on their size and whether the clothes were designed more males or females, children or adults. As organized piles began to form, these volunteers posted signs indicating the sizes in those piles. Priscilla asked a different group to take the flat boxes and fold and tape them to allow packing of the clothes. Another set of people were instructed to write the names of the recipients on the boxes. The final group, which later consisted of those who completed their share of the work already, was assigned to fill the boxes with appropriate items and seal them for delivery.
I volunteered at the Hubbard House, which is a home away from home for people who have family in the hospital or are being treated by the hospital and don’t want to live there, as the hospital is a 5 minute bus ride away. Our job was to serve the residents who were currently housed there, a hot homemade spaghetti and meatballs meal with garlic bread and assorted desserts. We served them as if it were a restaurant and brought smiles to their faces.
Before we can explore and tell about the contribution the Salvation Army provided the community, we have to understand its beginnings and its foundation. Concerned ministered William
“The Winner Within” is about a life plan for team players and what it takes to be a successful team. Each chapter is based on one subject, and that subject is one of the many things that a team needs to be successful. Pat Riley shares his game plan for team players in all of life, not just on the court. All of the strategies in this book are very inspiring and motivate teamwork. I think that the first chapter in the book, ‘The Innocent Climb’, is one of the most important concepts you have to have on a team. The innocent climb is the surge that occurs within a team as they are accomplishing more because of the synergy that occurs within a team. Innocence means understanding that the team comes first and being carried along by that.
