After reading carefully the case study of Enterprise Rent – A – Car many times , I asked myself which is the suitable method I’m going to apply for this enterprise , since we have two method for the problem situation which is Hard System method and Soft System Method and each methods have its strength and weaknesses . Hard system method has some strength, like clearly agree on objectives, quantifiable measures of success / failure, assessment of alternative routes, sequential development. The HSM weaknesses like, problem if objective are not clear, unable to deal with unquantifiable measures of success / failure , sequential might lead to weak feedback from stage to stage.
Soft systems methodology (SSM) is designed to shape interventions in the problematic situations encountered in management, organizational and policy contexts, where there are often no straightforward ‘problems’ or easy ‘solutions.’ Though informed by systems engineering approaches, it breaks with them by recognizing the central importance of perspective or world-view in social situations. It is more reflective of action research in its philosophy and approach.
