A February 2014 report by SFGate.com surmised that, bicycle riding by the Bay-City have risen dramatically, with an estimated number of about 75,000 cyclists taken to the streets every year. During this same period, the level of bicycle theft has gone overboard; with city analyst estimating that bicycle theft has increased by 70%. “Imagine one day waking up to find that your car had been stolen”, Taylor once said, she believes that a bike for a lot of people is no different from any other transportation that a person may rely on. Stating her solution, she suggests posting signs that simply say that the act is against the law and punishable. This would be as an inexpensive way to help. Other solutions were; possibly starting an awareness program or even strategically placing cameras where they have a clear view of the bike racks. I think that Taylor presents an excellent idea. The seriousness and dedication she displays causes me to open my eyes and pay attention to ways I may be able to help make my school campus a better place.
For a lot of us, we’ve lost sight of this innate need to explore the unexplored. As work, school, family, social life and everything else that drives our days continues to pull us in every direction, it’s hard to remember the last time we were able to experience something so pure. For Jimmy, he’s managed to marry these stresses into his pride and joy, the Boise Bicycle Project. As Boise’s community-oriented, non-profit promoting the personal, social and environmental benefits of bicycling, BBP functions as “a bicycle recycling center as well as an educational workspace in a diverse and non-threatening atmosphere. Through education and access to affordable refurbished bicycles BBP strives to build a stronger bicycling community.”
This is for people who may be interested in saddle bronc riding or who are curious about the components of a bronc saddle. A bronc saddle is an item used in the rodeo event of Saddle Bronc Riding, where it is made of rawhide or fiberglass, leather, sheep wool, wood, very little plastic, as well as some buckles and screws to hold it together. Its main purpose is for the rider to have something to “sit” in and hang on to while competing.
There is a certain freedom that comes with riding down a long highway at eighty miles per hour on a Harley Davidson. That kind of freedom is something that only a minority of society chooses to indulge in, while another minority looks down upon them and chastises them for their decisions. “All bikers are bad news and the scum of society” they say as they sit in their easy chair reading shakespeare and sipping tea. Even to this day, there is a stigma held against the biker community that they are all just a bunch of trouble makers and beer drinkers that live outside the laws. Being a man who has been around the biker community since I was born, I’m here to share some knowledge and hopefully convince the skeptics that not all bikers are bad news.
It is never easy to do good for the society. It comes with many complications. Money, effort, oppositions. It is never easy and especially to do it in New york city, the centre of all economic opportunities, just makes it even more difficult. It all started in 2006, under the leadership of former mayor, Michael Bloomberg, when “the city planning department conducted a survey of city bicycle commuters and recreational cyclists in 2006”( Lyon 4) to see the feasibility of NYC city bike share program. The main intention or rather the main motive for introducing a bike share program was to “maximise efficiency of existing mass
Likewise, bike theft is a huge problem for many metropolitan cities in the U.S.. Literature to support this claim is the 2015 Crime Prevention Program in Portland, Oregon. “Thousands of bicycles are stolen in the City of Portland each year… Places with high concentrations of parked bicycles such as college campuses are especially vulnerable to theft” (Office of Neighborhood Involvement Crime Prevention Program, Bicycle Theft Prevention, 2015). This article also identifies many preventative techniques to make a bike harder to steal; for example, “Proactively register your bike and include its serial number and photos with the bike registration services bikeindex.org and project529.com” (2015). Moving on, it is imperative to attack any problem
On March 12, 2015 at approximately 0143 hours, I responded to C-Town Bicycle & Fitness Equipment, 1927 Highway 138 to investigate a burglary alarm. Upon my arrival, I noticed that the side glass window had been broken. Once other officers and the owner, Jane Hayward, arrived on scene, we proceeded to clear the building to determine if it was safe. No entry was made by the suspect and no items were taken. The building was determined clear and no threat was located.
“Within the first month of moving in, my car was broken into while in my garage and I heard that there were 10 bikes stolen,” Weinstein said.
Over the last several years crime has been steadily increasing and decreasing but has had a great decrease in comparison of the 1980s based on relevant statistics in the chart “Crime in California, 1983-2009.” The most common types of crime in California are property crimes that are burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson and in second place violent crimes that is the interpersonal crime that involves the use of force by offenders or results in injury or death to victims such as murder, forcible raperobbery, and aggravated assault.
In 2015, there were an estimated 1,197,704 violent crimes. Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter increased 10.8 percent when compared with estimates from 2014. Rape and aggravated assault increased 6.3 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively, while robbery increased 1.4 percent. There were an estimated 7,993,631 property crimes. The estimated numbers for two of the three property crimes show declines when compared with the previous year’s estimates. Burglaries dropped 7.8 percent, larceny-thefts declined 1.8 percent, but motor vehicle thefts rose 3.1 percent.
When there are more bikes around, people drive safe and when there are more bikes around, people drive safer and are aware of them. The more bicyclists we see, the safer the roads are going to be for them. I think Manhattan should be doing everything it can to encourage people to bike safe and make the city a safer place to bike
