With the increasing popularity of Kia Motors worldwide, company planned to widen its distributor range. Following the process, in Indonesia, the Kia Motors set up a distributor plant in the country in December 16, 1999. In order to improve the quality and services, almost all the worldwide launches of Kia reached the nation. Kia Rio is one such car available for the local residents with a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine that gives maximum power output of 87 PS at 6000 rpm along with the peak torque of 12.2 kgm at 4000 rpm. This subcompact hatchback car is packed in 4-speed automatic transmission and 5-speed manual transmission to deliver decent acceleration and pick-up numbers, smooth gear shifts and improvised fuel economy results.

As standard body colored bumper, extreme cornered placed headlamps, door handles and mirrors are kept in body color. The side mirrors and corner front headlights are provided with LED lights with combination lamps. Thus, the front fascia of the car depicts an authoritative design, which nonetheless remains appealing. Its first sketch made by the core designers kept its stance low, wide front and rear ground in comparison to previous generation and longer wheelbase with short overhang providing it a different identity. This redefined body structure is made, specially keeping in mind the youngsters to attract towards this B-segment car. Coming to its side look, the differently designed wheels give it little sporty-look. Its rear is again reduced in height and lower brake lights equipped with 'Rio' entitled in the middle.
