Rancho Minerva Middle School (RMMS) is located in the rural area within the Vista Unified School District (VUSD). A major issue occurring at RMMS is corresponding to sixth to eighth grade male students being recipients of ineffective punishments as a result of their disruptive behavior. Students’ disruptive behavior refers to those who engage in altercations, disrupt teachers during instruction time, and become involved in substance use. The ramifications for students with disruptive behaviors are followed by disciplinary approaches such as expulsions, suspensions, Saturday school, and after school detention. Such approach has resulted in students achieving lower academics which can also increase the chances of engaging in risky behavior outside the school. According to RMMS School Accountability Report Card (SARC), in the 2014-2015 school year, RMMS reported 10.4% suspensions which demonstrated to be higher than the previous years. Additional factors that have had an effect on suspension rates are the limited in house services provided to this particular population at RMMS. Though RMMS does not have an appointed mental health provider or personnel to assist with mental health support on site, students are granted the opportunity to be referred to outside providers/therapist for counseling services. However, this has been a major limitation for our …show more content…
Implementing interventions that includes hiring a school social worker to provide the needed support for those students struggling to meet the academic requirements may contribute to having less disruptive behaviors in the school. The overall program goal for male students attending RMMS is to decrease suspensions and expulsions, while promoting different disciplinary approaches to boost their academics success and
I think students valley view high school that are in athletics should get a drug test, because schools will not allow students that play sports and have drugs in the blood. If the students have drugs in their bodies can get out of the sports that they play and schools are not going to risk the pride of the school if other districts find out that students play in under drug conditions valley view district can get in trouble.
A school’s Behavior Matrix can create a school climate that reinforces good behavior, a positive and safe environment, encourages responsibility of actions, builds positive relationships, ensues high expectations, and builds community (Muscott, Mann & LeBrun, 2008). The consistency of responses, consequences, and rewards will create an atmosphere that promotes positive behavior and discourages negative behaviors. The strategies set forth by the Behavioral Matrix are set up for the entire school population focusing on the students that do not necessarily have behavioral issues. It is mainly for the purpose of increasing student achievement, discourage problematic behaviors, and increase positive interactions throughout the school environment (Bradshaw & Pas, 2011). Therefore, the goal of a Behavioral Matrix is in fact to strengthen positive behaviors that are already in place and give a consistent disciplinary action guideline to move those individual that commit negative infractions towards positive direction. Positive Behavior Support systems are set up to acknowledge the good that students accomplish, and does not allow infractions to define who they are and allows for them to reinstatement the good
Communication within the Westside School District No. 5 between the school district and the communities and families that it serves is a very dynamic process. I talked with district administrators, community members, researched pertinent information in the Arkansas State University library, and various governmental online sources and found very helpful information to include in this sociological inventory. Westside Consolidated School District No. 5 is a consolidation of primarily three school districts Bono, Cash and Egypt located in Craighead County, Arkansas in 1966 (Westside, 2017). The district also includes parts of Walnut Ridge and Alicia in Lawrence County and parts of Jonesboro in Craighead County. The district has three school buildings housing students from pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The elementary school is the school for
While Reading the book, Lost at School, written by Ross W. Greene, one can appreciate the clear focus and overall direction for teaching different students with maladaptive behaviors. For teachers, those children present the greatest obstacle in education. A student’s mental health problems allude to the challenges in teaching. It’s hard enough to keep a large group of adolescents on task in the first place, let alone when there may be one or more children with maladaptive behaviors in a single class, who have a hard time regulating their focus levels like the typical student. The number of disruptive students has seemingly increased through the years. Now studies show that, “About 10 percent of the school population—9 to 13 million children—struggle with mental health problems. In a typical classroom of 20, chances are good that one or two students are dealing with serious psychosocial stressors relating to poverty, domestic violence, abuse and neglect, trauma, or a psychiatric disorder. These children represent the most challenging students in our classrooms today.” (Rappaport and Minahan) To combat those alarming statistics, Ross Greene’s informational book talks about how to improve a child’s behavior, while embracing the patience it takes to effectively communicate with such children.

The time has come for the students at Saltillo High School to wave goodbye to their principal. In a short amount of time, Mr. Devaughn will retire and leave the student body to wonder who will lead them next. Now students must consider their expectations of how a principal should carry out their job. The school board should take into account these expectations when choosing who they wish to represent the school. After much thought, the students of Saltillo High School have decided that they need a principal who can create a good school community, discipline the students, and act fairly.
EBIs to reduce disruptive behavior and increase academic achievement can include trainings and implementation support at the school, class-wide, and individual student-level, and are often either academic or behavioral in nature. Overall, implementation of both universal (i.e. class-wide) and targeted (i.e. student-level) interventions have demonstrated positive impacts on decreasing disruptive behaviors and increasing student academic achievement (Flower, McKenna, Bunuan, Muething, & Vega, 2014; Vannest, Davis, Davis, Mason, & Burke, 2010).Ross, Romer, and Horner (2012) also found that teachers in schools implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports with high fidelity
On 2016 May 30th Spirit Squadron had their commander Mary A. Fox does community service and with her school called the International School at the Mesa de Sol in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Captain Fox is a teacher at this school and this year she had been teaching students Spanish, along with planning a trip to another country in Central America, which ended to be Guatemala in Auntigquia for students to practice and improve their Spanish. By the time school was out there was only one student that had the opportunity to experience this amazing trip with captain Fox. While Captain Fox and her student were down in Guatemala for 3 weeks they had been doing community service with a school called San Patro Lachuertes Public School to help those that
The research suggests that although SRO programs do not significantly impact youth misconduct, the company of an officer nonetheless can enhance school safety. For example, the presence of SROs may hinder aggressive behaviors like student fighting, threats, and bullying, and may make it easier for school administrators to obtain order in the school, address disorderly behavior in a timely fashion, and limit the time spent on disciplinary matters. Again, these are usually self-reported
For the last two years, Cameron King has been a writer for Thousand Oaks High School’s award-winning student newspaper, The Lancer. This past year, Cameron took on a leadership role as sports editor. As an editor, Cameron is not only responsible for layout design, but also determining the focus of each piece and the angle in which they are written. This means he has to have knowledge in both women’s and men’s sports and the athletes who play them. This sounds like a “do-able” task, but in truth, it takes much thought, research, preparation and communication. Why? Because not only does Cameron write and publish, he also commands a team of staff writers responsible for contributing to his section of the paper. In this capacity, Cameron continues to demonstrate strength as a leader and mentor. Cameron has a way of cajoling his team into working a little later or a little harder, so even though the sports
Meadow View Elementary School is my practicum agency. The assigned unit is the Family Resource Center (FRC) which is a government funded agency. While completing the practicum students are required to fulfill the nine competences listed in the syllabus. The requirement for the competences led to me fulfilling various roles such as, being a broker, an educator, and a facilitator. The primary goal of these centers is to remove nonacademic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success. The mission is to enhance students’ ability to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote early learning and successful transition to school, academic achievement and well-being, and graduation and transition into

The Rocky mountain middle school needs to have more electives to choose from. Electives that will help a student later on in life.some understand that teen living A and B help with dealing with foods and sewing, but when one is older they are going to need to know how to do more than just cook and sewing. Some electives that would be good to learn as a student but would also help you later on are, business management, marketing, personal finance, computer repair, typing, CPR training, interior design, sign language etc. There also needs to be more to choose from because when one gets put into a class that they don't like or can't handle that is just not right for them then they should be able to change it. To change it, they need to have more
