Squeaky should quit running to train Raymond. It can help Raymond to know what she knows. It may improve their relationship. First off Raymond need to know what Squeaky knows to help him improve his running. One of the things that Raymond need’s to know is how to control his breathing, and try not to run out of breath. To slow down Raymond breathing because he probably doesn’t know about that, and so he need’s to practice that to get better. Second Squeaky need’s to tell Raymond what is good running clothes, and shoes because some clothes can slow you down than how fast you can actually run. Third and final thing is that Raymond also needs to know is that he needs to practice every day to get better, and better. Last thing that this could
Determined Squeaky In Raymond’s Run by Toni Cade Bombara, Squeaky is very determined. She is determined because she stands up for her brother Raymond. She also wants to win the 50 yard dash against the other girls. Then she wants to coach her brother Raymond.
In the story, Raymond’s Run, Squeaky, the protagonist likes to run. Not only does she practice almost every single day, she also wins every single track meet that she attends. Above all reasons is that she attended the maypole race since kindergarten and has won.
Because she saw Raymond running along the sidelines, something sparks inside of her. “Cause if I’ve lost this race, or if me and Gretchen tied… I can always retire as a runner… and coach with Raymond as my champ” (Bambara 111). Squeaky doesn’t care about her win anymore. She is thinking about Raymond’s potential as a runner. Her heart is growing fond at the thought of her brother following behind her footsteps. “My brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition” (Bambara 111). This shows that Squeaky is excited for her brother’s future. He is no longer the annoying ‘little’ brother he always was. Now, he is a person with the ability to run like she can. Finally, even after the man announces that Squeaky won, she looks over at Gretchen. There is no longer venom boiling between them. “And I smile. ‘Cause she’s good, no doubt about it. Maybe she’d like to help me coach Raymond” (Bambara 112). There is a newfound respect between the two girls. Gretchen even smiles back. The walls Squeaky spent so long building up are now crumbling down piece by piece as her mind
In the story Squeaky tells us that “the big kids call me mercury cause i'm the swiftest thing in the neighborhood”(181). Squeaky is an extremely skilled runner, and she has been winning races since she was little. Not only do people know of her speed, but she likes to show off her training and exercises in public. There is a part in the book where her mom walks away from her on the street because Squeaky is practicing her running form. Another part of the book includes her working on breathing techniques while going down Broadway. Squeaky is very arrogant when it comes to her competition, knowing she will win. She is aware that she is the best and says it multiple times in the story. In the book Raymond's Run Squeaky is incredibly aplomb, not only in her running but in many areas of her
The first reason Squeaky is a memorable character is because she is very protective. She is protective to Raymond, a lot. For instance, in the beginning of the story Squeaky says, “But now, if anybody has anything to say to Raymond, anything to say to his big head you have to come by me.” This shows Squeaky is protective because , she is
In the beginning of ‘Raymond’s Run’,we see how protective Squeaky is.For example, when she protects her handicapped brother from anyone.Or when she says that she’d rather knock you down herself these quotes show that Squeaky is very protective because these quotes are showing that she doesn’t want to open up.Like when she says that she would much
In the story, “Raymond’s Run,” by Toni Bambara, Squeaky is the best of the best but is cocky about it and never lets the opportunity slip when talking to others. Squeaky has a big competition coming up against her biggest rival, Gretchen. Before the race starts Squeaky is determined to win. Although Squeaky is a driven runner, through the end of the 50-yard dash, she starts to realize that is isn’t all about her.
characteristics of The characteristics of Squeaky in the story “Raymond’s Run” is competitive, grouchy, protective, fast, observant. I can tell that squeaky is Competitive because in the story Squeaky says” I win cause i’m the best.” (Bambara,26)and to me that sounds cocky too. The reason I think she is grouchy is because she says in the story” I much rather knock you down and take my chances.” (Bambara, 23). The reason I think Squeaky is protective is because when Raymond and her are on the street Mary Louise just asked what grade Raymond is in and Squeaky freaked out on Mary because she thought that Mary was going to make fun of Raymond. The reason that I think she is fast is because she wins the race at the end of the story and she wins the race at the May Day festival every year. The reason that I think Squeaky is Observant is
For Instance, Raymond would always train and run along with his sister. She could help him by teaching him have proper breathing exercises, runs, stretches, etc. Although it may take some time, she believes he can do it. Like in the story, Squeaky examines Raymond when he is copying her stretches by bending down and touching his toes. Also at the end, she watches him at the fence
and she's going to get punished. Squeaky states. I've got Raymond walking on the inside. She is too afraid of what will happen. So she keeps all the potential of his running on the inside.
Raymond doesn’t say a whole lot in the story but, that doesn’t mean he can’t run. Squeaky’s brother can be just like her and act just like her. When Squeaky run
Raymond has some mental problems, and he when he runs, it looks very awkward. People laugh at him, and Raymond gets very upset. Squeaky, Raymond’s older sister, tells people to stop making fun of him. Squeaky wins a school race, and Raymond runs outside the fence with her the whole race. She realizes that she can train Raymond to run. People won’t be able to laugh at him if he is
I predict that Raymond will become a runner like squeaky because, in the climax of the story during the race Raymond was climbing the fence, and the only reason he could have done what he did was by watching and practicing what his sister does. In the text it states: “Raymond with his arms down to his sides and palms tucked behind him, running his very own style, and it’s the first time I ever seen him run like that I almost had to stop and watch.” My textual evidence shows how Raymond evolved as a character in this story by watching and practicing overtime what he had seen. Despite, him being mentally challenged and having disabilities he was able to overcome. Raymond is an amazing, captivating, and empowering character in
Reasons I predict that Raymond will become a runner like squeaky is because he has his own little race and style of running. She notices this at her last race and gets excited at the ending, not because she won, but because of Raymond running. Second of, he can run as fast as she can. When she goes running that’s how he keeps up with her. He runs with her.
