They do arrest criminal suspects and give you speeding tickets but that’s not all they do. There is a lot of paperwork involved and they do a lot of interviewing when there is a crime. The Laredo Police Department was created in February 9, 1850. Its original name was “City Marshal” but changed during the 20th Century. Before it was created, Laredo had its own Vigilance Committee of citizens. They were like a modern day police officer. Their purpose was to protect the law and tracked down marauders. Today this Vigilance Committee is now known as Laredo Crime Stoppers; a program where citizens get rewarded for providing valid information to the police.

Before Ms. Antoinette Frank joined the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) she had a rough childhood. Ms. Frank came from a dysfunction family; her brother was a fugitive and her father was in and out of her life. Ms. Frank childhood dream was to become a police officer. In the year of 1993 Ms. Frank applied for the New Orleans Police Department during the hiring process, she had several major red flags during her process. Ms. Frank was caught lying on several times on her application and had failed two standard psychiatric evaluations. The psychiatrist at that time advised the New Orleans Police Department not to hire Ms. Frank. The San Antonio Police Department has multiple lawsuits against it. Two of those cases include Richard R. Buchanan and John David Palmer. According to Buchanan v. City of San Antonio, “Richard R. Buchanan was suing the city of San Antonio under the Americans with Disabilities Act” (Buchanan). The Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of the public life. The city of San Antonio repeatedly turned down his application to become a police officer. Buchanan was already a patrolman with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, when he received an injury to his back during a foot chase of a suspect. On 3/18/17 at approximately 12:40 Hrs.; I, Ofc R. Marrero #26, of the Okeechobee City Police Department, was dispatched to 1116 SE 11th St. in reference to a suspicious incident. Upon my arrival, I met with Idell Pearce and she informed me that she has been receiving threatening letters from an anonymous person ever since she fired Karen Smith. Mrs. Smith used to be Mrs. Pearce's care taker, but she had to be let go because their constant disagreements.

On April 2, 2015 during a sting operation of an undercover drug and gun buy, the suspect known as Eric Harris was shot by Robert Bates 73- year old volunteer reserve deputy with Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect Eric was on PCP at the time and he took off running. Bates says he mistakenly pulled his gun instead of his taser during the pursuit. She explained that unlike city officers, county officers have the authority to enforce the law further across an area rather than a city officer can. For instance, if a city officer sees a traffic violation occur out of their jurisdiction, he or she cannot pull a vehicle aside unless other drivers' safety is in jeopardy. In that case, the officer could contact dispatch and inform them of the violation, so that an officer who has jurisdiction over that area can perform the arrest.
