The Toronto Star’s Peter Gorrie has visited the Ford Canada Oakville plant on numerous occasions, and points out one major difference that he has seen over recent years. The environmental and renewable energy specialist remembers specifically how the once chaotic auto plant was littered with cardboard from various auto part deliveries. Ford has taken on a global waste-reduction strategy, and Gorrie is keen to share his experience that, since then, there has been a noticeable transformation around the factory - one which shows a reduction of cardboard, dirt, and sound. The reduction of cardboard is a direct result of how the parts to build some 1,325 vehicles per year are now arriving in “returnable, reusable racks and bins, custom-designed

The Box Inc. was established eleven quarters ago to bring a high quality product to the marketplace, filing a void for boxes made out of 100% recycled material. From the outset the aim of the organization was to maximize shareholder wealth and mould the company into a leading manufacturer of packaging material. Having been selected to lead that task, I was honored at the confidence placed in me to guide this new and energetic
As you drive down the highway, you may notice a truck with a long arm at the end of which is a container holding a person working on an electrical pole or communication lines; or you may notice a similar truck and a worker trimming tree limbs after a storm; or in your neighborhood you may notice that same vehicle with a worker putting up Christmas lights and decorations. Everywhere you go, if you watch closely you will notice these vehicles doing their routine or special tasks. The versatility and usefulness of bucket trucks is greatly recognized in a wide variety of industries.
Source 4 demonstrates the process of sorting and grouping similar materials, such as bottles and cans, in order to manage waste. The system, conducted by Kimbriki is designed to recycle the products and reduce the amount of landfill. In the absence of a tip of this nature, members of the community could dump rubbish in inappropriate places and the level of littering in nearby areas would increase.
With a change in attitude and the use of new technologies and diverse use of materials this situation would improve. The use of materials for packaging (wood and Polystyrene) is a total waste, poses disposal issues with
Another important difference in the articles is its language. The colloquialism and intricate vocabulary are more restricted on the Toronto Star. On the other hand, the colloquialism and intricate vocabulary are maintained throughout the text on the Globe and Mail. The words and sentences are short and easy to understand on the Toronto Star. For example: behaviour change; average time gap between the concussion and committing suicide was almost six years in; we are seeing greater suicide risk linked to weekend concussion. In Contrast, the above- mentioned vocabulary is used as reckless behaviour, there was a median delay of six years between the concussion and the suicide, people who suffered concussions on weekends tended to fare evidence
In the realm of waste reduction, Kroger’s recycling program enabled them to recycle over one billion tons of corrugated cardboard in 2007. Efforts have increased since then. They have reduced the use of plastics and paper by introducing and encouraging the use of reusable bags. Additionally, the reusable bags themselves are made from 25% recycled material. Kroger has also reduced paper usage by using more electronic and digital communications and some paperless administration operations. This has saved over 91 million sheets or 455 tons of paper since inception. Kroger also reduced the waste of food by rescuing food prior to spoilage and donating what is termed “not for retail” food.
On one occasion, Jordan and Geoff helped build a recycling station at their school. They decorated each recycling bin by painting vivid images of the materials that were to be placed inside. They covered one bin with pictures of plastic bottles and another with metal food cans.
My name is Damian Ramirez, and for my recyclable project my dad and I worked together. We decided to build a car made out of carboard. The material that we used were carboard box, tape, aluminum foil, filler paper, googly eyes and krazy glue. We first drew the wheels then we trace the top part of the car and we glue all the parts together. We also covered the car using aluminum foil and filler paper and finally we put some googly eyes and we added some extra decorations.
Contractors find alternative ways of transforming them into buildings that will make an impact on the public. By using their expertise, they would be able to transform these used containers into something useful and beneficial. These containers would provide them the opportunity to acquire more projects and earn profit and of course achieving a sustainable competitive advantage. Through this, contractors are also able to add value to these containers that have once been unused. Extending the life of these discarded materials and providing affordable infrastructures to the people is a complete viable approach.
Developed and implemented labeling guidelines for communicating the recyclability of paper and corrugate packaging materials.
With the implementation of Ford’s restructuring plan, Ford 2000, the company has set forth goals to compete with the expansion of foreign-based auto manufacturers globally. The goal of Ford 2000 is to continue to improve quality and reduce cycle times by finding ways to improve processes involving all stakeholders within the supply chain and the company itself.
Upcycling is not limited to individual practice, it can also be brought at workplace like making use of old doors as partitions and tables. Terra Cycle, a company based in U.S., made use of upcycled materials in their entire office and was even called as the “coolest office” in the world by the New York Times. (T. Szaky, 2015)
After getting his start in corrugated manufacturing as supervisor with International Paper, Gerald Mayfield went on to hold production manager positions with Raymark Container, the Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, Temple Inland, and Norampac. During his tenure with Norampac, he reduced non-quality levels from 27,000 to 10,000 parts-per-million and reduced labor costs by 12 percent. He also oversaw a 22 percent boost in productivity in the company’s converting department. When he parted ways with Norampac in 2014, Gerald Mayfield was directing operations at three plants in New York and Connecticut as a regional production manager.
