Trader Joe’s success with their employee’s is based on hiring individuals who are “ambitious and adventurous, enjoy smiling and have a strong sense of values” (Uhl-Bien, Schermerhorn Jr., & Osborn, 2013, p. 98). 4. Does Trader Joe’s utilize contingency thinking? Why or why not? Managers within the Trader Joe organization have to identify whether the technique, skills or training for the crewmembers are impactful to the continued success of the business. Trader Joe’s has a Leadership Development Program where employees are “allowed to make their own decisions about store operations, including product mix and in-store displays” (Lewis, 2005, para. 33). A crewmember who is responsible, knowledgeable, and friendly is what makes the company excel over other like businesses such as Whole Foods or Albertson’s. Trader Joe’s is utilizing contingency thinking because the business has incorporated an environment where employee opinions are respected, and with the employees’ happy the customer is also happy. 5. After reading this it makes me want to be a manager for Trader Joe's. There making a lot of money. But with the workers that work for them there given a lot of benefits with all the health, dental, vision and etc. Also they're given promotions from within philosophy because they're privately own. Also they tell there employees to try the produce so when someone has a question about something they can take them to something that is something there thinking about or better. Trader Joe’s has great workforce management practices and its employees enjoy what they do. They have cheerful attitudes and are more than willing to assist customers with anything in the store. Trader Joe’s employees are engaged in conversation with the customers that shop in the store and make the customers aware of any new or exciting products from them to try. The positive behavior of these employees is due to the compensation and benefits each employee receives, which is far more competitive than other grocery food stores. Trader Joe’s is a leading firm that is taking over the supermarket industry. The company completely altered the idea of a traditional supermarket and turned it into a whole new experience for consumers. Through Trader Joe’s strategic planning, they’ve paved a way for consumers to have high-quality products while paying low prices. Trader Joe’s provides fewer products that are health-conscious, unique and privately labeled. Tesco is the third that falls with small neighborhood markets strategy and focused on organic products, similar to Trader Joe’s. With growth, there comes new management and employees which can alter the way a specific store is ran and there is worry of change in the stores normal procedures. Job satisfaction can be best described as the positive feeling that an individual has about their job resulting from an evaluation of the job’s characteristics (Robbins & Judge, 2009, p.31). It would seem natural to think that job satisfaction would have a positive correlation with successful organizations. What impact does job satisfaction have on an organization? Research will show that there are not only internal effects from performance related issues, but also external effects that impact customer satisfaction.

In what ways does Trader Joe’s demonstrate the importance of each responsibility in the management process- planning, organizing, leading and controlling? They have created their own University for future leaders. By controlling who they promote, only within the company, and planning room for advancement from the day you become an employee shows the value they take in their staff. For example, imagine you start as a cashier and it’s your first day on the job. It can bring great comfort knowing that your manager started in exactly the same role. Not only provides management with the ability to relate to their employees but also the employees to look to the manager’s leadership and mentoring for success.
This individual report will examine Trader Joe’s organizational leadership approach and effect. Two views of the structure will be examined. The first view is the way Trader Joe’s describes and advertises its leadership structure. The second view will focus on the implementation of leadership process at the store level as evidenced through observations. This analysis will utilize published resources to establish the corporate view of the organizational leadership, while direct observations will be used to provide evidence of the local-level implementation. Following the analysis and discussion, a summary conclusion will be provided with recommendations for improvement if necessary.
The Kroger Company is a leading grocery retail chain that prides itself on its customer satisfaction and conducting ethical business. Kroger operates nearly 2500 grocery retail stores in 31 states. An internal evaluation of the company's strengths and weaknesses are analyzed, in addition to an analysis of the company's external opportunities and threats. In coordination with this a consumer characteristic and behavior was diagnosed along with Kroger's strategic direction for its company.
Trader Joe’s has internally created a brand for its company using a different strategy as compared to other supermarkets. Its approach of effective relationship-building program pleases customers through unrivaled customer service. This case study presents many factors that play a part in their customer relations strategy. Trader Joe’s does not focus on advertising.
