On Wednesday August 20, 2015 at approximately 01:55, Upper Lobby officer Bronze Luc received a complaint from Maria Beguiristian a White & Case employee located on the 49th floor. Maria acquainted Officer Luc that as she was approaching the VIP elevators to go into the garage, she noticed a couple of people standing near the loading dock entrance carrying items with them and taking pictures. Maria thought that was suspicious of them standing there with all of those supplies. It turned out to be Tiles and Marble Works contractors who just finished working and signing out of the loading dock getting ready to exit the
Respondent Union Pacific Railroad Company ("Union Pacific"), submits this position statement in response to the discrimination charge filed by, Terry Scharfe ("Complainant"). The Complainant claims that Union Pacific discriminated against in retaliation for a prior complaint of harassment and on the basis of disability when he was discharged from his position as a Special Agent with the Union Pacific Police Department.
Predominantly white institution (PWI) is a term used to describe institutions of higher learning, particularly four year colleges and universities, in which Whites make up 50% or more of the student demographics (Sage Pub). Predominantly White colleges and universities are different from other colleges and universities that serve students with different ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds, such as historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU). Being an African American at an PWI can be intimidating. I myself endure this task everyday. People think that its just like attending any other university, but it has its own hardships, from statistics to stereotypes made about African Americans. Not only that, but just feeling like you
Ms. McIntosh made a particularly resonant statement about halfway through her essay; “my skin color was an asset for any move I was educated to want to make.” I have always been free to move around the country, to make my own choices, own my independence and enjoy the freedom of my liberation. Considerations she includes on her list of privileges never actively entered into my decision making process. I was always able to find suitable housing and employment and educational opportunities to advance myself in anyway I decided. This made me wonder if in fact I had earned through merit and achievement all I believe I have to date.
Jean demonstrates the term White Privilege by becoming harsher on her maid, Maria, after encountering an unfortunate incident with two black men by complaining on how she handled the chores around the house. She also emphasizes on the importance of her family's safety from the black community by checking and enhancing their security system. Not to mention, she holds a high social status in the economy due to her husband being a governor which may be a partial reason to her racist behaviour of being apart from the lower-classed black people. Moreover, she represents a selective perception similar to the white producer I mentioned earlier with Cameron when she assumed Daniel as part of gangbangers when in contradictory, Daniel is a hardworking father only wanting for his family to live a great lifestyle.
For us Haitians in this store, no matter how hard, and devotion we put into our work , it seems for him , we do nothing. Even though we have word of felicitations, or certificate for our hard works , George Gonzalez treat us unfairly.
After reading this article I’ve realized that it is true, I for one now know that even though I may not always see it, but whites really do have more privileges and are more free than colored people in America. I love to shop, and I even work at a mall but because I am white I’ve never really thought about how colored people feel in a mall just because I have never seen it nor have I ever been racially profiled. One of the daily effects of white privileges in the article was “I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed.” I’ve never thought that going to the mall for some people could be hard and that is just a prime example that I don’t really see what is really going on around me because
that not everyone had the same results (2012). Some researchers found that people were not less racist when they were aware of white privilege. When some people find out about white privilege they are angry because they feel guilty for being white. However, the goal is not to make people feel guilty; sociologists want people to be informed. Ruparelia feels that whites should try to make things equal about races (2014). If whites were able to convince people that they are of the superior race, then they have the power to make things equal.
Have you ever walked into a department store or a restaurant and noticed the employees or managers? Whenever I attend one of these establishments I noticed that the employees are either of color or Hispanic while the managers are Caucasian. In these establishments these employees are cleaning or just doing basic jobs around the store, for example, working on the cash register, stocking, and etc. And in most cases there aren’t many upper level managers like store managers to be exact that are colored people. I came to the conclusion that colored people don’t have major roles in establishments or don’t even work in these establishments. I believe these acts are a sign of race discrimination. In conducting this research I plan to go to different department stores and restaurants in one day and observe what race are the employees and how many people of color are working.
Racial discrimination in the workplace has been a persistent theme in Canada’s history as well as present-day times. The occurrence of actions and attitudes that impose a sense of one being less equal than another on the basis of one’s race in Canada’s workplace inhibits both our nation’s ability to move forward as well as strengthen unification within our country. The belief in a more egalitarian society, where one’s race and ethnic background have little to no impact on employees (or potential employees) standings within the job market, would seemingly be reinforced by the majority of Canadians, who consistently show support for Canada’s multicultural identity. Couple that with the noticeable strides Canada has made in the past several
7.Recommend two (2) types of reasonable accommodations for both disabled applicants and applicants needing special religious considerations. Argue two (2) legal reasons for not being able to sufficiently provide such reasonable accommodation for each group.
Discrimination is nothing new to our society or is it something that should be taken lightly and for many decades our Nation has endured many conflicts that have tested the will of Americans over the decades and it is evident that as we have become more diverse so too has our workforce. Although, we are in the twenty first century the goal is to understand why prejudice and discrimination is still so prevalent and how we can do better while trying to bring together our different backgrounds, skills, and experiences still has proven to be an issue that minorities are constantly fighting as they struggle to find there place in society. Through an array of well-educated researchers showing how diversity is nothing new to our society, but if we are to continue to grow and move forward we must be able to understand that with diversification we can foster a strong and inclusive economy that is built to last and nurture a nation that will continue to lead the world as standard setter.
On or about September 2015, I was subjected to different terms and condition of employment than my non-black coworkers. I have had several work schedule changes that have interfered with my care giving responsibilities. Non-black employees have had their schedules accommodated, in consideration with their care giving responsibilities. On or about November 12, 2015, I was called to a meeting and told I had two weeks to take care of my personal affairs, which meant changing my schedule again. I said I needed to revisit this matter in two weeks. On or about November 12, 2015, the Manger discharged
Everyone is born equally. It is important to treat people equally because we are all human and no one should be differently.
I have been hearing this for years. Black owned construction companies are still complaining that they are not getting contracts. What’s up? It is 2016, why are Black construction companies and suppliers still not incorporated into public and private construction projects? Black-owned suppliers are not getting contracts What are the barriers? Advocates from across the state are voicing their disapproval about Black companies not getting their fair share of government projects or projects being built in predominately minority neighbors.
Discrimination in the workplace occurs when an employee experiences harsh or unfair treatment due to their race, religion, national origin, disabled or veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics. Discrimination is one of the biggest problems people face in the workplace and it must be dealt with forcefully.
