Castagno took into consideration that this painting was going to be viewed by nuns while they ate. He painted it so that the nuns could relate to the painting. The Benedictine nuns had a simple and strict diet and would sometimes fast, so Castagno added on the table only bread and wine. Castagno also represented Mary in the painting. The floral drape that the apostles are seated on symbolizes the annunciation. The High Renaissance did not last a long time compared to the Early and Late Renaissance, but it did however leave an impact that would last forever.
