Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, usually performed in the first 28 weeks. Since the 1950s the issue of abortion has caused extreme controversy with the public debating whether abortion is morally correct, should be illegal/legal, or in more recent times should be free of cost. The main two sides to this debate refer to themselves as either “pro-life”, for those who are against it, and “pro-choice” for those who believe it should be the bearer’s choice. However there are many more questions and answers related to the issue of abortion.
The Catholic faith is strongly against abortion because Catholics believe that not one human should deliberately hurt, or in this case ‘kill’, another human. It goes against their

Using verses from the bible, including religious facts and referring to how it testifies against god and his beliefs are all techniques that can persuade readers to change their views or if you are religious especially, to reinforce your “pro-life” opinion. Readers are told that, because of the New and Old testaments the Roman Catholic Church has always condemned abortion, the inclusion of this shows the readers that since abortions came into place Catholics have been against them and to this day still are consistent with their beliefs. Seeing as the purpose of the article was to inform and to persuade, there is a lot of repetition used and it includes many examples of verses from the bible. The Audience for this article could be anyone researching opinions on abortions, however more specifically it is for those who are catholic or are looking to be and are researching the Catholic Church's beliefs. Because of the audience for this article this has meant many references to the bible, God, Jesus Christ, Mary and others related to the Bible. The Background …show more content…
“Pro-life Victoria” is a campaign to protect life. They are completely against abortions and in their words “deeply care about every stage of life”. The purpose of this article, well in this case campaign, is to create a pro-life society and to educate others on how much respect is needed towards a human's life. They want to have a society where the laws are not life-threatening and where everyone supports pro-life organisations. Victoria has a law in which unborn children have no human rights right up until birth. Which they saw as a travesty and is the main reason behind their campaign. The audience can be anyone. Seeing as this organisation is victoria based it can be aimed at victorians against abortion, however everyone and anyone could be interested in this, pro-life or pro-choice. As Well as their own opinion included in this site they have also written a series of other articles talking about the devastating events that have happened due to abortion. Suicides and Depression have been blamed on abortions, Breast cancer has said to have a higher chance rate if you have had an abortion and a strange event of the illegal selling of aborted dead baby parts. Due to this and there own personal opinions that unborn children have human rights also, is why they have strong thoughts against
The abortion question raises a number of issues that form the core of the abortion debate. Opponents and supporters of abortions have been battling over this particular problem for decades and still cannot come to an agreement. Being one of the most common and most controversial medical procedures, abortion tends to affect people on psychological and sociological levels. But while the discussion of the morality of abortion is an ongoing debate, the social issues surrounding abortion in most cases stay unnoticed. The social aspect of the issue is centered on the abortion policy. The main question of the abortion policy is whether the law should permit abortions and, if so under what circumstances. The other is whether the law should put the life of an unborn child first and legally protect it. The peculiarity of the abortion policy is that its measures are highly dependent on different public opinions.
The issue of abortion has always been a controversial one for citizens of the United States. Abortion is the practice of terminating a pregnancy after the embryo has been planted in the uterus (Abortion). An individual’s stance on this controversial issue categorizes them into one of two very different groups. An individual who feels that a woman should not have an abortion- due to moral or religious views- is said to be “pro-life”. Coincidently, those who feel that a woman should have the right to choose abortion are said to be “pro-choice”. “Pro-life” supporters point to the practice of abortion as an immoral one. Supporters state abortion is immoral because it takes away the rights of the unborn fetus, since activists consider human
This topic is also argued in different religions. The Catholic Church believes that abortion is murder and no person born or unborn should be unwillingly killed. Murder is against the Ten Commandments and a serious crime. They believe that abortion is wrong and just as bad as murder. Many Catholic protest abortion by holding protests outside of abortion clinics.
it is seen as a new life. Therefore, it would be true to say that
The controversy surrounding abortion has been long debated since the Roe v Wade case (1973) as pro-life advocates and pro-choice advocates go neck to neck on whether the process should be banned or remain legal. According to APA (American Psychological Association), abortion is the “medical or surgical termination of a pregnancy and is one of the oldest, most common and most controversial medical procedures”. To be Pro-Life means to be against the termination of a fetus; one who is not in favor of the practice. Pro-life advocates believe a woman should continue the pregnancy and deliver the baby no matter the circumstance. Pro-choice represents those who believe the woman deserves a choice to carry the baby or have an abortion. Although the 1973 Roe vs Wade case legalized abortion, abortion is still currently a much heated debate in America as the surgical procedure is possibly on the verge of becoming illegalized. However, abortion should definitely remain legal for various reasons such as individual freedom, victim protection, life opportunities, failed contraception, and it is not fair for the government to make such crucial decisions for a woman’s life.
The restrictions and the debate that surrounds the issue of abortion has changed dramatically throughout the course of history and it continues to change until this very moment. All around the world and in every known society, women have used abortion to control their reproduction, regardless of it’s legality. Abortion used to be exercised freely in the United Sates, up Until all the states started to ban It and place a lot of restrictions on it. They stated that a woman can not abort except in extreme cases in which the mother’s life might be in danger. After the restrictions caused a lot of health issues and raised concerns on women’s health, The Government abolished all the restrictions. In this paper I will analyze and discuss three main positions on the issue of abortion. First, there are those who associate themselves with the title “pro-life”. These individuals are anti abortion, birth control, embryo research or anything that can control or cause any harm to the fetus. Second, there are those who at the other end of the spectrum who firmly believe that if a woman decides to abort, then it is her constitutional right to do so without any interference from the government. Third, are those who believe that if a woman is raped or her life is in danger, then abortion should be completely and solely up to the woman, but other than that, abortion should be illegal. This group of individuals are also for birth control and do not oppose educating
The contrary to the argument for pro-choice is that of the Pro-Life group. Many of them say that life is sacred and should not be terminated in any case. Many internet apologists take this stance. They would passionately argue that God will strike us down if we believe that abortion should be a choice. Especially in the United States, Christian groups join together and march to protest against the legalisation of abortion. Groups like this refer to the bible’s supposed ‘supreme guidance’ and believe that God is firmly against abortion in any case. They may cite specific biblical verses such as Exodus 21, 22 - 25. These verses say that if two men are fighting and they accidently punch a woman, resulting in the death of the unborn child, the penalty is death. However, most Christians simply disregard this as ‘symbolic’. Such disregarding of Gods words is without reason or defence, it is simply our own sinful minds challenging what God gave us for our own good. A true Christian could never pass this verse off as symbolic, it is a rule, a law, and just like the ten commandments (one of which says we should not
The controversy surrounding the ethicality of abortions has been a hotly debated topic during the past several decades. In the Supreme Court case of Roe v. Wade, the Court ruled that women had the constitutional right to seek abortions; however, in 1989, the Court later decided that each state had the right to set its own abortion policy. Heated disagreements and different perspectives have led to the creation of two different movements: the prochoice movement and the prolife movement. The former supports abortion, the intentional ending of a pregnancy, while the latter claims that abortion is immoral. The issue has been escalated from a matter of choice to the questioning of morality – Is having an abortion the killing of a human?
One of the biggest controversies of all time has been abortion; countless people consider it sinful and even believe it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “ the premature termination of pregnancy by spontaneous or induced expulsion of a nonviable fetus from the uterus.”(Dictionary.com). These pro-life believers (against open access to abortion) do not support the idea of encouraged abortion and aim for it to be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal an uneducated staffs would still perform them, unfortunately. Approximately 70 thousand motherly deaths occur every year because of dangerous abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this shows why
“Abortion is the spontaneous or artificially induced expulsion of an embryo or fetus” (Abortion, 2002). An artificially induced abortion is the type referred to in the legal context. Abortions happen in different situations. The question comes when is it the right or wrong choice. The root question becomes the moment a fetus becomes a person and entitled to rights. The fetus could be a person at conception, during the pregnancy, or at birth. The deciding moment differs from the Pro-life group and Pro-choice group. After critically analyzing four different arguments about the pros and cons of abortion, one will be able to understand the ethical, moral, and
Religious arguments constitute another group of reasons against abortion. All Western culture is mainly based on Christian religion, which believes abortions to be morally wrong. Christian faith insists on the human nature of the unborn child and regards abortion as a murder. Actually the Bible does not say anything about abortion. This argument is often used by the proponents of abortion. In reality during the time when the Bible was written abortion
I believe there is a difference between abortion and the other offenses mentioned in Bishop Lori's statement. Abortion takes a defenseless human life and terminates it. The Catechism of the Catholic Church firmly stands on the matter of abortion being a grave sin. When it comes to the issues of unjust war, homelessness, lack of health care, unjust immigration policies, the death penalty, as well as failure to help those suffering from hunger the Catechism doesn’t say much specifically on those topics. That doesn’t make these acts permissible. Anyone with an ethically formed conscience can see that these are all things that
Abortion is one of the most disputable issues discussed all over the world today. Several decades ago abortion was considered only a social issue, but now situation has changed and it has also a political and ethical issue attached to it as well. Arguments against pro- choice are typically biased; overlook the fact that the legalization of it benefits the health of women, and deny women the right to do what they want with their bodies. Thus, the main aim of this paper is to discuss the pro-choice view on abortion while analyzing the opinions of other authors in this paper.
One of the toughest issues to debate in our world today is abortion. Abortion is the induced termination of pregnancy before the fetus can survive. Nowadays, abortion affects all people, not just the mother and the baby. There are moral, ethical, health-related, political, and religious aspects that affect how people feel towards abortion. By looking at religion and its views, one can see just how hard it would be to argue in the pro-choice position of this debate.
So from this we can safely say that Catholics view, and have always viewed, abortion as evil. Then again, we are relying on something uncertain -- how you determine the humanity of a being. Clearly Catholics do not view a fetus as a human being.
