Becoming a licensed practical nurse is a rewarding job that allows a nurse to care for other people and it has a rewarding salary, while the disadvantages is the lack of sleep and the multiple hours that a nurse has to spend on his/her feet. The one disadvantage her job has is the long hours she has to work to get all the work done. She has to stand on her feet most of the day going from different offices and while doing that it then makes her back and feet hurt. Most of the time she is working from seven to nine and she usually comes home exhausted. Also another disadvantage is having to deal with the patients who do not want to continue their journey onto getting well and choses to just go home. She is the only clinical director at the clinic and has no assistant like most of the clinics so she sometimes can be extremely stressed out. With her sometime being stressed out her boss which is a doctor rewards her of a vacation. During her vacation she relaxes for a week and then return back to

Being a nurse not only means compassion, dedication, and intelligence, but the profession also requires endurance, personal sacrifice, and the need for continuous education. I have learned that nurses are some of the most caring and selfless people that anyone will ever meet. Nurses are more than willing to complete challenging tasks and care for others in a way that the majority of people are unwilling to. I am driven to bring all of these qualities into my role as a future nurse practitioner, which is why I am committed to pursuing my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP).
Transitioning from an licensed practical nurse to a registered nurse is of the hardest things I have ever done. Twelve years ago I took my boards and became a licensed practical nurse. Going to school to become an LPN was difficult, but I was not a mother and I did not work full time as I do now. Getting to know the students I attend school with has made me realize that each student’s role transition is different, with unique outlooks and emotional roller coasters. In the following paragraphs I will preview licensed practical nurse to registered nurse role comparisons, my change in
“Why do you want to be an LPN?” is a question that I, along with all of my peers have been asked many times since starting nursing school. I have heard countless students share their intriguing stories about having generations of nurses in their family, or having experienced a traumatic event in their life which led them to choose this career path ... I on the other hand am the first person in my entire family who has attended college; let alone taken on something as challenging as nursing school. I don’t have a “cool” story to share about a traumatic experience in my life that led me to becoming a nurse. I simply want to be an LPN to make a difference.
Nursing can be a demanding career, but the benefits far much outweigh the challenges. Most importantly, it’s the rewards it offers by allowing an opportunity to make a difference in another person’s life through the provision of care when they need it. Just as Patricia Benner theorized in her book “Novice to Expert,” nursing encompasses both educational knowledge and extensive clinical experience acquired throughout one’s career. This far, I continue to acquire knowledge and clinical knowhow which will promote proper and efficient care to patients. Since I began practicing one year ago in a long-term healthcare facility, I have interacted with patients, families, physicians and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient’s care which has enabled me to gain confidence in myself. While I cannot deny that it was difficult to transition from a student to a licensed nurse, I learnt to overcome these challenges and focus on my strengths. Practicing as an LPN has provided a platform to learn and gain experience even though the duties and responsibilities are limited by the scope of practice.
