World War II has some of the most historical and memorable events in history. The attack on Pearl Harbor is one of those events, it happened on December 7, 1941. It brought the United States into the war. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, more than 2,000 seaman personnel and 400 others were killed. The attack was major for the United States and the Japanese force escaped practically unscathed. They had less than 100 casualties and lost way less machinery. Japan’s tactic was planned where the United States could not do anything about the bombings. The bombs not only affected the military base, they were so nuclear that they had burned cars and homes in the surrounding areas killing and wounding many people.

The attack was extremely unforeseen because the United States did not anticipate that the Japanese would attack European colonies in the South Pacific. The American intelligence did not consider the fact they might attack somewhere so close to home so they had all crafts in one area, but the Japanese took the opportunity and bashed the whole area into ruins. …show more content…

The United States lost eight battleships, 14 smaller ships, and over 300 aircrafts. the Japanese had planned their attack perfectly when the U.S. was not ready right before 8:00 am. Japan had only lost 29 planes and five smaller submarines. President Roosevelt recognized the Japanese forces had pulled off an unbelievable plan, but next time the United States would be ready.

The day after the attack Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Only one person did not vote to go to war because she was a pacifist who refused to send troops into war. Three days later Japan’s allies, Italy and Germany, countered by declaring war on the U.S. Although what happened was abominable, it has forced the United States to enter the war, helping it end.
