The cause and effect of texting while driving in Texas A major issue in today's society is texting while driving. The biggest form of communication among people is texting. Texting while driving distracts your attention from the main task which is driving the car safely. Texting while driving is one of leading cause of car crashes.Researchers at Cohen Children's Medical Center New Hyde Park estimated 3,000 annual teen deaths nationwide from texting and 300,000 injuries (Ricks). This is more than the number of teens who drink and drive. In comparison, 2,700 teens die from drinking and driving. Because of texting and driving, there has been an increase car crashes, teen injuries and teen deaths Legislative effort has increased for them to educate the public, reduce motor vehicle accidents, and build a new plan to prohibit distracted driving. “ 40 cities in texas has a ban on texting while driving” according to the the Texas Department of Transportation. In 2011 Governor Rick Perry vetoed the bill for texting while driving said the bill “ micromanage the behavior of adults”. The focus of this research is to show you the cause and effect of texting while driving. And also increase the awareness of distracted driving, discuss the problem, and try and enlighten you on the issue.The law does not prohibit using your cell phone to make a phone call, using GPS or the MP3 functions of your phone. The law is limited to sending and receiving text messages while your car is in motion. If an accident occurs where a driver nearly strikes another person or a car, the individual could face a felony charge of reckless endangerment.Teens are about 10% of the US population but account for 12% of all fatal car crashes. Texting also prevents you from paying close attention to what's going on around you, something that's especially important in situations where you need to have your guard up, like walking home after dark. Driving itself requires a lot of attention and energy from the driver. When using a phione the driver take their eyes off the road, mind off driving, and hands off the steering wheel. With them trying to reach or using their phone while driving their putting themselves and others on the road in danger.
