Kathryn Heilfurth Dr. Jen Harrison English 103: English Composition 22 October 2017 Mini Project 3: Cause and Effect Essay Project The foods that contain the most calories and low to no nutritional value, these are the foods that are consumed by the body that lead to the degrading issues that will arise in the future. Sure it is nice to occasionally snack on a favorite junk food, but too much of a good thing can be misery. This is when junk food starts releasing its evil effects of diseases, such as obesity. Moderation is key when indulging in your favorite snack, as long as you can stop yourself from overeating and leading yourself to develop these awful effects. Junk food causes health issues, self-esteem issues, and an overall feeling of disgust within the body. Junk food contains many calories that lead to weight gain, which is the cause of many health issues. One of these common health issues is obesity. Gordon-Larson talks about the associations between environmental exposures and health outcomes (Food Availability/Convenience and Obesity). Over exposure to junk food is the cause of children, and even adults to want to eat them. These foods are always available at every end cap at the grocery store, ready to be bought and eaten. They are so easy to consume, making these unhealthy snacks a top choice when hungry. The consistent overindulging in these snacks promotes obesity. Freedman states “The impact of obesity on the chances of our living long, productive, and enjoyable lives has been so well documented at this point that I hate to drag anyone through the grim statistics again” (148). It is clear that these health issues will affect the way one lives their life and there are many studies to prove this. It is inevitable to prevent obesity and the health issues that come along with the harmful ingredients contained in junk food. Imagine lacking the self-control to cease yourself from getting to the point that you start to lose your dignity. In fact, junk food is linked to self-esteem issues. This is due to the fact that eating poorly and erratic meals can lead to confidence and motivation issues.
