Causes And Consequences Of Global Warming

Decent Essays

How would you feel if you were the cause of Global warming? Unfortunately, science shows that is exactly the case. In a report in 2001, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated, "There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities”. Global warming comes as a direct result of the greenhouse effect- the trapping of the sun 's warmth in a planet 's lower atmosphere due to the greater transparency of the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun than to infrared radiation emitted from the planet 's surface. Our Earth is able to maintain a sustainable temperature because of the Greenhouse effect. Without it, the planet would be adverse and completely uninhabitable. The greenhouse gases water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone are natural gases that are present in the atmosphere. They cause little to no harm when they are balanced but overtime humans have overproduced them, causing temperatures to rise and a heap of other problems. The imbalance of greenhouse gases is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, decomposing organic matter, the use of fertilizer, and CFC’s. In this essay, I will first discuss the specific causes of Global warming, then I will address the effects, and finally detail how we as a society can help save our environment from further damage.
