The crusades are one of the more inter-religious Great Wars of all times, a war, that several named; the combat of the crescent and the cross. During more than two centuries, two of the greatest religions of the world, Christianity and the Islam, will be the principle actors engaged in this war. Going through the origin how this war we noticed that the intolerance between Muslims and Christian was not born from yesterday. The Crusades generally refer to the pilgrimages, which were held between 1096 and 1291. The general goal of the Crusades like it was ordered in a speech by the Pope Urban II calling all Christians in Europe to war against Muslims oppressors in order to reclaim the Holy Land and the recovery of the sanctuary of the Holy Sepulcher …show more content…
To better understand the origins, the motivations and the consequences enables us to better understand the ditch which separates the two great religions and accentuates, still today, cleavage between these two major cultures. how can someone who read the Bible can understand and follow along such an unethical behavior? Well maybe it has more of a cultural meaning and depends on the context of the situation. Because religions are meanly supposed to be tolerant of one another and compromise to coexist which is not the case. After the eight crusades one might think that all those people who lost their lives in the name of the religion was for at least a good cause and show the rest of the world that division is not a solution no until today we still whiteness such violence and opposition between Christianity and Islam. For instance in Central Republique of Africa lets zoom on the fate of a country in great distress where the beginning of war between Christians and Muslims makes run tens of thousands of people in the forests. Since March 24th, 2013, a coup d'etat reversed the president francois Bozize. Plundering, rapes and violence between the Christians and the Moslem who represent the minority of the population are the daily newspaper of the inhabitants of the country. The populations in escape are driven out by Seleka (rebellion with dominant Muslim which came to power last March and which constitutes from now on the official army). Downtown, many Moslem houses are set in fire((2015, January 8). The almost same exact scenario is happening today in France. Gunmen started a killing spray at a French magazine named Charli Hebdo killing twelve people and several were hurt. It moves to be a simple and unfortunate massacre to have a religious meaning attach to it allegedly the gunmen were Moslem and the government of Yemen is verifying if they do not have any link to Al Qaeda this was the
Did the crusades have a negative or positive effect. In 1095 pope urban the 2nd called the first crusade which was the start of something that would have an Positive effect on the Eastern empire and christianity. In 1905 the byzantine emperor Alexius Comnenus asked the Eastern empire for help after being threatened by seljuk turks and to aid the eastern empire pope urban called the first crusade so that they could fight back against the muslims with the Eastern empire and take back the holy lands. This crusade would lead to three more which would have a positive effect on christianity and the Eastern and Byzantine empires. Some positive effects were they found new food this also the crusaders conquered more land for the Eastern empire and found new clothing/material. The results crusades had many positive effects on the Eastern and Byzantine empire. One of which was that many more merchants were supporting them or selling to them and they also discovered new foods from the east. These two things helped the empire by allowing them to find new things through trade which ws increased because of the crusades because the crusaders would need more food and equipment. Document 2 states that “merchants in Venice and other northern Italian cities built large fleets to carry crusaders to the holy lands.” “They later used those fleets to open new markets in crusader states.” This shows that the merchants helped the crusaders and then they opened shops where the crusaders were so that
The Crusades were great military missions developed by Christian nations of Europe for the purpose of rescuing the Holy Land of Jerusalem from the hands of the Moslems. Jerusalem was extremely important to the Moslems and Christians at this time. Many religious events happened there, and many landmarks of both religions were located in Jerusalem. There were many Crusades some more significant than others, but in general the Crusades were very important to the spread of Christianity and religious based knowledge. The Crusades are an example of religious rebellion that is timeless and universal throughout the world.
The Crusades was a horrific time. Many people had lost their lives, friends, even family. The Crusades were a battle over the holy land, Jerusalem. The Crusaders, people who had fought in the Crusades, were Christians. They wanted the holy land because they believe that’s where Jesus had died and rose. They had fought against the Muslims who were defending themselves against the Crusaders. The Crusades had its positive outcomes as well as its negative results. Some may wonder, were the results of the Crusades more Positive or Negative? I strongly believe the outcome was mostly negative mainly because the Crusaders didn’t win the holy land, lots of lands were destroyed, and so many people lost their lives in the battle of the Crusades.
According to an article published in 2009, it is believed that there were a numerous effects of crusades:
The Crusades were a group of Christians that Pope Urban II started back in 1095. They also had 9 Crusades, or 9 times when they would attack to get the Holy Land, against the Muslims and Jews, but mostly against the Muslims. During those battles there were both positive and negative. Were the results of the Crusades more positive or negative? The Crusades were more negative than positive because they worsen their relationship with the Jews and Muslims, or religious hatred, they destroyed and betrayed their closest ally, and their towns or cities were difficult to handle.
The Crusades were one of the most prominent events in Western European history; they were not discrete and unimportant pilgrimages, but a continuous stream of marching Western armies (Crusaders) into the Muslim world, terminating in the creation and eventually the fall of the Islamic Kingdoms. The Crusades were a Holy War of Roman Christianity against Islam, but was it really a “holy war” or was it Western Europe fighting for more land and power? Through Pope Urban II and the Roman Catholic Church’s actions, their proposed motivations seem unclear, and even unchristian. Prior to the Crusades, Urban encouraged that Western Europe fight for their religion but throughout the crusades the real motivations shone though; the Crusaders were power
The Crusades were a bloody war that the church deemed holy and necessary for salvation of the knights soul. The Crusades are a highly controversial and very dark stain on the Catholic church and Hierarchies past. The war was brought to the church from there Roman allies who they had tense dealings with. The where seeking aid in the fight against the muslim turks. The church decreed there act holy and justified. The people who were under the churches thumb had no objections to the slaughter that their beloved God had suposably justified.
The Crusades, a series of wars, are an extremely important part of history in the 12th century, occurring during the Middle Ages. The Middle East or the Holy Land was always a place that Christians traveled to to make pilgrimages. The Seljuk Turks eventually took control of Jerusalem and all Christians were not allowed in the Holy City. As the Turks power grew, they threatened to take over the Byzantine Empire and Constantinople. The Byzantine Emperor, Alexius I, asked Pope Urban II for help and Pope agreed, hoping to strengthen his own power. He He united the Christians in Europe and In 1095, Pope Urban II waged waged war against muslims in order to “reclaim the holy land.”
Going against modern day religious beliefs, in 1095AD the Christians went to war to claim the holy city of Jerusalem, massacring the Muslims in a bloody attempt to worship their God. Pope Urban II’s speech at Clermont inspired by claims made by the Byzantium Emperor encouraged the Christians to partake in the First Crusade in an attempt to liberate Jerusalem. The religious and economic factors were the most relevant to cause this crusade, with some influence from desired political gain and little from social factors unrelated to religion. The immediate consequences were positive for the Christians and negative for the Muslims, but the First Crusade launched an ongoing conflict between the Christians and Muslims which had positive and negative consequences for both sides. There are a number of relevant modern sources which examine the causes and consequences of the First Crusade, but, while there are many medieval sources, they do not explicitly discuss the causes and consequences of the war. In order to fully comprehend the First Crusade, it is necessary to analyse the religious, economic, and political factors, as well as the short-term, long-term, and modern consequences.
In the DBQ historical context, it states that “Between the end of the eleventh century and into the thirteenth century, European Christians, at the urging of the church, conducted a series of nine wars that have come to be known as the Crusades. Many people have wondered were the results of the Crusades more positive or negative? The results of the Crusades were more negative because they would massacre communities and empires, and they had very low patience.
It was the terrible thing for them and a violent war. At first, They had trouble with each other. They don't believe in each other or their religions. There religions were hatred that people are starting to kill each other because of their religious hatred of each other. They were not happy with each other and started to kill Christians or Muslims.
The first crusades are initiated when Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus requests help. The Crusades were holy wars fought between Christians in Europe and Muslims in the Middle East. The question being asked here is Were the results of the crusades more positive or negative. One reason the crusades happened on November 27, 1095, in Clermont, France, Pope Urban II called for a Crusade to help the Byzantines and to free the city of Jerusalem. Document the First Crusade states that The Crusaders first gathered in Constantinople in fall 1096.This is interesting because Document the First Crusade states that The official start date was set for August 15, 1096. Those armies that left before that time are considered
The Crusades were Holy Wars during the 11th century that intended to expand Christian territory. The Crusades began when Christians initiated military campaigns to take control of the Holy Lands around the city of Jerusalem. Ever since the fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity had been so strong that people were able to spread it through campaigning. Different people from the time period of the Crusades have varying viewpoints on it, a few of which being that the Crusades caused fear and destruction, the violence of the Crusades were justified because of religious reasons, and that the Crusades were not only harmful to Muslims, but Jews and Christians.
There are many reasons for the crusades to be positive and negative. But the reasons of what the crusades effect was more negative than positive. This is because in the text it states “The crusades failed in their chief goal: the conquest of the holy land. They also left a bitter legacy of religious hatred behind them.” What this means is be the crusades left a negative effect of bitterness and hatred. Another reason in the text for why the crusades were negative is “In Europe, crusaders sometimes turned their fury against Jews, massacring entire communities.” This sentence means that people who took part in the crusades made careless decisions.
The first crusade started in autumn of 1095. Pope Urban II initiated the first crusade by calling upon his Christians to reclaim the city of Jerusalem. The Crusade was also meant to seek revenge on the followers of Islam. The followers were accused of committing crimes against “Christendom”. Pope Urbans crusade was made possible by the work of St. Augustine on Christian Violence in the past. Many Christians joined the crusade because the Pope promised rewards for the afterlife. After the fourth century, Christianity underwent a transformation when it fused with the Roman state for which warfare was essential. St. Augustine and Pope Urban enabled violence to be an option for Christians and it can be described in this quote, “For the first time in Christian history, violence was defined as a religious act, a source of grace.” After the Pope’s Christian tour, many Christians were ready to destroy everything that stood in their way.
