Around 18.2-19.7 million students enroll in college every year. Whereas about 7,000 students drop out every day. Many students have different problems that make them have to decide whether to stick to education or go a different route in life. There are many causes and effects due to the amount of stress college students go through daily. I know this because I've been a college student for about 3 months and experience stress almost every day. Three main causes why college students experience stress is because of academic stressors, social stressors, and daily hassles. Which leads to dropouts, weight issues, and unhealthy habits.

Lastly, college students feel stress when dealing with daily hassles. Many students stay up late for hours, have to get up early for classes, and still try to cram in all the work and fun that can possibly fit. These are all things that students deal with daily that could cause stress even if its the littlest situation. For example, missing the bus you needed to aboard in order to get to school on time or not being able to get the coffee or breakfast you wanted in the morning could significantly cause stress and make you not even want to attend school for the day but hopefully as the day goes by you will have a better day.
When being a college student you try to adjust to everything that you have going on both inside and outside of school. This could be very difficult to balance and only the strongest will survive. Not being able evenly to distribute your time, in other words, practicing time management will affect students to drop out, have weight issues, and develop unhealthy habits.

Stress is a word that many college students hear on a daily basis; it is a concept that resonates with all students, regardless of age or major. People of all ages experience stress at various times in their lives, but college is a particular time when an individual can be plagued by heightened levels of it. The problem has come to be, due to the fact that students come from home, where their parents provided them with guidance, to a situation where they are independent. They have personal responsibility and it may not be completely straightforward for some people. Everyone’s experience is different, but each student experiences stress in some way. The competition for grades, the high expectations, relationships, future career choices, and several other aspects found in the college environment, can lead to stress. Going to college requires changes in daily routine. This includes sleeping adjustments, eating habits, time-management skills, balancing of relationships and several other changes.
Generally speaking, college requires a lot more effort from students than high school. Once you begin your college career, you will see that student’s are more motivated, professors are more demanding, and the workload is a lot more difficult. These academic standards are even more visible in graduate school. Now, although college is filled with adventurous opportunities, it can also be filled with stress. In other words, as a result of everything going on, it’s more common for college students to experience higher levels of stress related to school, work, finance, and in some cases, relationships.
Entering college can be overwhelming considering that most things have changed. Change is difficult as it can be a challenge to adapt to a new way of living. Going to college you most commonly move out of your home with your parents to live on your own. This can be hard owing to learn how to be independent. Meaning you need to most likely get a job as well as managing your classes and even finding time to socialize and make new friends. Such responsibility can make people feel vulnerable and so can lead to stress. The way that people react to stress is very different. Some people react to stress in a negative way by turning to alcohol, developing a habit of self-harm, and compulsive eating/shopping. Stress is unavoidable, no matter the situation, location, or time; stress is always present. Stress is found in higher levels during the duration in which students attend college. It is predictably higher among college students, freshmans in particular, because of the extreme expectations set upon them by their parents and, of course, society. The need to please their parents, longing for success in life, and being able to sustain a reasonable income in the future, all of which falls into the hands of college students who are making critical decisions which may decide the outcome for a large portion of their lives. With the growing demand for degrees in the professional world comes the growth of the number of college students. The relationship between stress and college students has become the subject of on-going research. A group of researchers from NYU conducted a study to see how much badly stress takes a toll on teenagers that are competitively trying to get into college. The study not only revealed how stress takes a toll but revealed some of the major sources of the stress. The researchers eventually traced the root of the stress back to highschool related activities. Homework, grades, and college prep courses were the three main factors of stress. Turns out, those factors were taking a toll on the majority of students there. 49 percent of all students said they felt a great deal of stress overall. 31 percent said they felt somewhat stressed. More than 60 percent of girls experienced stress compared to 41 percent of boys. Though these are pretty big percentages, the statistics don’t stop here.
