Fast food companies are the one to blame for America’s obesity and obesity in children now days. Back in time we would never see children with diabetes or with heart disease, and now that’s all that we see in the streets, news, etc. It’s all about marketing and their target is children, which is wrong! Food enter by the eyes as the saying says, and children’s are the one who goes more by that saying. If only fast food would control the amount of calories you in take things would be so much better in the terms of obesity in children, but no one does anything for the cause. It’s not bad to eat once in a while at a fast food restaurant. I mean we all do that and it’s not bad. Is just the amount of fast food (Junk Food) that we eat and how often
In today’s society a huge issue is that we constantly hear about the food industry in America. We often hear in the news that obesity rates have increased, or that Americans have many diseases that contribute to being obese. “What You Eat is Your Business” by Radley Balko expresses that people are at fault for making such unhealthy food choices. Others argue that the food industry is to blame for being so unhealthy. According to David Zinczenko in “Don’t Blame the Eater” he blames the fast food industry as well as the consumer. Zinczenko asks “shouldn’t we know better than to eat two meals a day in fast food restaurant’s?” (392). So, who is to blame for American’s eating so much unhealthy food? Should it be the consumers’ burden or the fast food companies? On one hand, as consumers we continue to purchase foods that we know are making us overweight. On the other hand, fast food companies continue to offer high in calories foods.
In David Zinczenko’s article “Don’t Blame the Eater” he focuses on the fast food industry and their role in the increasing health and obesity issues of our nation’s children, as well as these issues potentially becoming a serious problem that we will all have to deal with if we collectively don’t do something about it now. When it comes to the topic of fast food, most of us can agree that it is not the best source of nutrition. It is unhealthy and can be the cause of many serious health issues with our children such as obesity related Type 2 diabetes, stomach ulcers and even heart disease, high cholesterol, sleep apnea or even cancer. We can even agree that fast-food diets are a major contributing factor to
Today, many people eat fast food instead of home made food. The reason is that fast food is fast, cheap and convenient. However, at the same time, fast food is contributing to a big social problem in the U.S., which is obesity, and recently some people are beginning to sue the fast food companies for causing their obesity. Should the fast food companies have responsibility for American's obesity? My answer for this argument is "No". I think that whether people eat fast food or not is an individual choice. There are many people who eat fast food, but aren't obese. They may do some exercises for burning calories, or try not to eat fast food as much as they can, caring for their health. Moreover, some fast food companies serve relatively
The government may not be the only responsible party for what is going on in America, Fast Food corporations have grown into a part of everyday life. Relentless advertising focused on children with the use cartoon characters and larger portions or extra sizes to entice people. Yves Engler, author of Obesity: Much of the Responsibility Lies with Corporations, points out it’s not only fast food restaurants where unhealthy products are being consumed, but also soft drink companies with high calorie soda pop who are giving money to cash-strapped schools to advertise their product on school televisions. Meanwhile targeting young children who get their parents to buy their products. Engler proposes a solution regarding the increase in childhood obesity by first stating that vending machines should be removed from schools and the
As fast food Industries expand throughout the United States, Americans have chosen to eat unhealthy food saturated in fat. Obesity has become an epidemic in the united states in the 70s impacting the common American family because of the lack of the healthier resources. Fast food company use marketing strategies to target the younger generation by building fast food companies in small towns which destroys any opportunities for the younger generation to eat local unprocessed foods. Obesity is the current issue America is facing and it appears to be growing each day. Many blame fast food who have attracted the public with advertisements containing foods, saturated with chemicals and fats. Propaganda and commercials are the most common advertisements to target the younger
Fast food has a harmful effect on society because it can cause obesity. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry believes obesity “Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise.” (parag. 1).The causing and treating of obesity is complex but it is the most recognizable disease. Consistently eating fast food and a poor can lead to obesity in anyone. The risks of obesity include an increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, fast food “Studies have shown that over the past four decades, consumption of food eaten away from home has also risen alarmingly” (parag. 8). This means that fast food is high in fat, sugar, salt, carbs, calories, saturated and trans fats. This type of eating leads to a higher body mass index or gained weight. Children and adolescents are at a
You cannot watch your favorite shows without coming across an advertisement for a fast food restaurant. It happens so often that people get persuaded to try out the new items at these places, but what the advertisement is not providing are the nutritional facts. Most of what is being promoted on television is not healthy for anyone, but people get blinded by that because the food looks appetizing and it is so easy to access. For instance you cannot travel anywhere around the United States without passing a McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) or Pizza Hut (“Don’t Blame the Eater”). These are the three most recognized food chains across the United States and they are also the same fast food restaurants that are causing major health problems within the community such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Some may say that it is not the restaurant’s fault that people are enduring these health problems because no one is forcing a person to eat the fast food which is true, but if these restaurants were not being promoted as much, people would not be so compelled to go out and eat that type of food. In David Zinczenko’s article “Don’t Blame the Eater”, he talks about how we cannot blame people for what they are eating. I agree with Zinczenko up to a point, I cannot accept his overall conclusion that the consumer is not to be blamed for the food that goes into one’s body because children eat what is being placed in front of their face at
Fast food industries are a major reason for why the number of overweight teens in the US has tripled since 1980 according to the article "Burger Battles". So why aren't the same industries doing more to reduce the numbers knowing that they are the leading cause? Jennifer Harris led a team from Yale on a yearlong study of the foods kids choose to eat at fast food restaurants. Harris told WR News that '' There is a lot of research showing that eating fast food is harmful to young people's health, increasing the rate of obesity,". The research is not just big studies but on any nutrition chart of a fast food industry. These companies add unnecessary amounts of sodium and sugar into their products so the customers will want more. In addition companies
In a society where so many people are worried about what they are consuming and what toll it has on their body, I am always dumbfounded that people still eat out at fast food restaurants. So many people are quick to judge and blame the fast food industry for so many health related issues, such as obesity or heart problems. Although many people believe that the large chain fast food industry is to blame for obesity, in reality the fault lies with the consumers. As a human being we all are entitled to free will so when it comes down to it people ultimately have the power to decide what they feed themselves along with their families.
There’re are many reasons why the blame of obesity is put on the fast food industry also why the blame is to be put on the american households. In my opinion the blame is to be put on the fast food industry due to my reasons and multiple research papers done on this topic. However I Am not telling you should listen to me but listen to what you think is right. The ways the fast food industry bring people is amazing although it can damage the way our youth think in the future. For how long are we going to let this monopoly go on before we decide to take charge on how our food is being showed to
The topic of blame is very hard to discuss, no one in this account is completely innocent or guilty. Fast food industries definitely helped plump up the American population and they by no means tried to generally make their menu items better for the human body. On the other hand the we as human beings should have better self control, we know that fast food is not the best thing for us but we eat it because we want it. This is not all to blame on fast food either, people have become lazy and do not care to exercise, which is crucial for the body to stay in good health. When talking about the obesity crisis fast food is only one of the things to weigh in to the equation, there are things like regular eating habits, exercise habits, and medical
Everybody knows how fast food is unhealthy and bad for you. It has been believed to be the cause of most of obesity in American children today. Who or what is really to blame for obesity in children? Is it the government’s fault, or the fast food companies? Or it can even be something else we haven’t thought of! Daniel Weintraub has a unique opinion on who to blame, he blames the parents. I agree that they are to blame, but not mainly. They might be like less than 15% of the cause. Weintraub thinks they are the main blame unlike me. I disagree with him. I personally think the fast food companies themselves are the main cause of obesity in American children today. I know some parents are to blame for their kids being obese. LIke many
I do believe that fast food restaurants should be responsible for the obesity epidemic in children and the adult population in the United States. The first reason I believe they should be responsible is that they promote super-sized items on their tv commercials. Young kids are watching these tv commercials during the daytime which makes them think it’s acceptable to eat these foods. The second reason why I believe fast food restaurants are responsible is that the cost of these items is very low which entices people to buy them instead of eating at home. They are available at low prices because they either buy in bulk or the items are not very good quality. I firmly believe that it is a little bit of both. Another reason I believe that fast

Everyday American people are faced with food decisions that could affect their health both long and short term. Unhealthy fast food restaurants can be found also almost everywhere across the United States of America. The food is tasty, convenient, fast, and cheap. This is what the people want and I suppose that is why, according to statistics, 50 million Americans eat fast food every single day. That is about 1 out of every 7 people! As people continue to consume these unhealthy foods, it affects the health of the population in America. According the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, about 75 million American adults (29%) have high blood pressure—that’s 1 of every 3 adults. A diet that is too high in sodium and too low in potassium puts you at risk for high blood pressure. The interesting thing about this is that most of the sodium Americans eat comes from processed and restaurant foods. This shows a direct correlation between fast food and hypertension’s prevalence in this country. Vending machines are also a popular source of food and snacks for Americans, especially those that are on the go. In a survey of 853 vending machines in the U.S., 85 percent of food offerings were classified as unhealthy and 58 percent of beverage options were sugar-sweetened. The truth is that having unhealthy foods and sugary drinks in vending machines makes it harder for people to make healthy choices and promotes consumption of energy-dense foods and drinks that can contribute to
