Obsessive compulsive disorder, commonly known as OCD, is a common disorder shared by many people. It is an anxiety disorder caused by unreasonable obsessive fears that causes a person to engage in repetitive behaviors, which are called compulsions. The most common instinct for people diagnosed with OCD is to ignore the obsessions and try to avoid the compulsions, but doing so only increases anxiety. So, performing these acts satisfies the feelings of stress. Some symptoms of OCD include; turning light switches on and off multiple times, washing hands excessively, sorting things with an organized manner, etc. These obsessive fears and compulsions, in time, may turn into rituals for the person that obtains the disorder. These rituals end up having a negative impact on relationships with friends, family, and coworkers. OCD also gets in the way of simple daily tasks. A circuit in the brain that controls sexuality, aggression, and contamination sends messages to the thalamus. When this circuit turns on it makes us have impulses to do a certain behavior such as locking the door when one leaves their house. After this act is done, the brain turns off these impulses. People that obtain obsessive compulsive disorder have troubles turning off these impulses from the brain. This then causes compulsions or obsessions. These compulsions or obsessions make you go back and make sure you locked the door several times. If one with obsessive compulsive disorder does not preform this repetitive behavior they get extreme
