On December 11, 2008 the remains of Caylee Anthony were discovered by a utility worker at approximately 9:32 a.m. eastern time. The utility worker picked up the plastic bag and a small skull rolled out. She was discovered in a wooded area that was less than a half-mile from her grandparents’ home. The bones were wrapped in a plastic bag and bound with duct tape (Evans, 2008). When the search for Caylee started back in September they were not able to search this area due to it being submerged in water. In November when they returned to this site it had been fenced off. By the time they found Caylee’s body it was just skeletal remains. Some of which had been gnawed on by animals (Evans, 2008). In this stage, Caylee started showing visible signs of decomposition. Anaerobic metabolism took place which led to the accumulation of different types of gases such as, hydrogen sulfide, methane, and carbon dioxide. These gasses would have given Caylee a bloated appearance. Pressure built up from the gases may have caused rupture of her body. Maggots will have hatched and started feeding on the tissues of Caylee’s body in this stage. This would cause Caylee’s hair to detach from her skin. The combination of gas accumulation and maggots feeding on her will have led to her skin rupturing and allowing the gases and fluids into the surrounding environment. Her skin rupturing will also create the environment for fly larvae and aerobic microorganisms. The final part of this stage is the gas and fluids combining and causing the strong decaying odor (Goodman,
