Is CBD Effective without THC?
Cannabidiol (CBD) was first discovered in the 1940s when it was isolated from different groups conducting investigation into cannabis. Despite that early discovery, much of the attention has long been placed on Cannabis sativa L. and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) for recreational uses. While fewer studies have focused on CBD, claims of its ability treat ailments such as epilepsy, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain and schizophrenia, among other diseases, have reignited interest in the compound. Both compounds have a significant impact on each other and works best together. When THC and CBD are combined as a treatment therapy, CBD acts as an inhibitor, prolonging the effects of THC-therapy, and may reduce the psycho-activity often associated with THC. Studies conducted at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco have revealed that a combination of specific amounts of CBD and THC has a more potent anti-tumoral effect than either compound alone when tested on brain and breast cancer cell lines.
