With all of the controversy surrounding the killing of Cecil the Lion, there have been other issues coming to light amidst the brutal attack against the lion. Zimbabwe’s president (Mugabe) was one of the first to comment upon the issue, and stated that he blamed the “vandals” for the death of Cecil, in addition to the people of Africa, seeing as though it was their job to protect their country and “natural resources”. This disappointment towards not only the foreign “vandals” that committed the crime, but also the people who are natives to Africa, is starting to spark even more conflict in South Africa with the weeks to come.
Although the blame of the killing seemed to have been solely on the American dentist, Walter James Palmer, it seems
Anything is acceptable as long as it is legal. Or so that’s what they say. If so why worry or make a big deal over something that’s legal? The reason.... We don’t agree with the result so we want our way or nothing at all;not caring if it’s legal or not. In the case of Zimbabwe it is legal to hunt. So the only thing left to decide is if Killing Cecil the lion was acceptable or unacceptable; I think that killing for big game hunting is acceptable as long as it is legal. thesis
The audience is given a primary source on a Zimbabwean and the fears they must live with everyday in their home, which is supposed to be a place of security, which the lions strip from their rights.
Lions are very interesting animals. They come in many shapes and sizes. They are known to be predators and they can also be know as prey. They are dangerous to some people, but to other people, they are amazing creatures that God has put on the planet. Lions are predators and they live in the wild in groups called prides and they are very interesting.
In 1187 the muslim leader Saladin reconquered the city of Jerusalem. Then Frederick of europe, Barbarossa of Germany, Philip of France and Richard I mounted a campaign to rescue the city. This is when the third crusade was under way. The main reason the campaign was so successful was the capture of the port city of Acre. King richard got there on June 1191 to find a city under siege by a christian army. This is where Saladin came in his army was too weak to overwhelm the designers and too strong to be dislodged (remove from a position of power or authority) so Richard and the French King Philip slowly broke the city's walls to weaken the city's defences while simultaneously (at the same time)
A prized lion named Cecil who was 13 years, old was shot and killed on July 1, by a man named Walter James Palmer. Two Zimbabweans have already been arrested for giving Palmer false information about the lion saying that it was legal to shoot him while they were hunting. Palmer stated that he hired the two as professional guides for $50,000 and they got him proper permits so he assumed that everything that they did on the trip was legal. He claims to have had no idea that the lion was one of the local favorites. Coincidentally, a man that goes by the same name and is the same age as Palmer, illegally killed a black bear in Wisconsin a few years back and had to pay a fine of $3,000. The three men went out hunting at night with
I favor the Californian breed because they are a large, versatile commercial breed that have many interesting, and unique characteristics, and I would like to continue to raise them.
The Gorilla King (nature/wildlife documentary) is the story about mountain gorillas that begins hundreds of thousands of years ago when volcanos of Congo erupt. This volcano eruption led these gorillas to find their new place in high mountains to live. In the film, Veronica and Felix are observing Titus, whose is 33 years old male silverback and ruling over 25 gorillas by his share of presence. He looks after ten females, four males, 16 ages, and four youngsters. Actually, Titus is being observed by researchers since he was born. These researchers always have seen that outsider male weren’t welcomed but it only happened once in 1970, when Beetsme enter the group of Titus. Titus blackest period of life was the relationship with Beetsmse because
In Zimbabwe, a country located in South Africa, the residents live in clans. Nozu explains in the article that, “each clan claims an animal totem as its mythological ancestor.” This means that whatever the clans “totem animal” was they could not eat the meat of their animal because it would be like, “eating a relatives flesh,” Zozu states this because even though this is what the clans believe in this it has never stopped them from hunting or allowing others to hunt there token animal. This is a direct response to people saying that the American dentist disrespected the Zimbabwe culture. In Zimbabwe there are specific hunting grounds, the American dentist is not being charged with fines because according to an online article titled The Bigger Story Behind the Killing of Cecil the Lion That the Media Overlooked “Palmer's hunting permits were all "in order", the government said, and he did not breach Zimbabwean law,” despite that he was not in a hunting ground they decided it was not worth charging the dentist.
As human development continues to expand further into the Santa Cruz Mountains, the mountain lion habit incessantly is decreasing creating numerous problems and concerns; such as corridor loss, depredation, and public safety. Over the past decade an increase in encounters has occurred, directly correlating to the increase in habitat fragmentation. Because mountain lions have the greatest geographical range of any land mammal, their home ranges require very large and contiguous territories. The destruction of their previous widespread habitat has created new complications that threaten not only the mountain lion, but the overall biodiversity of the ecological community. Mountain lions are both apex predators and opportunistic carnivores, making them a keystone species. As a keystone species, the mountain lion’s ecological role is extremely
This text talks about Cecil the beloved lion getting killed, murder to some people, by an American Dentist. Cecil the lion had a pretty good life, better than most humans. The United States is reacting to the “Cecil killing” story much differently from a lot of Americans, especially as someone who actually grew up dealing with dangerous wildlife on a regular basis. Nzou lived in a village where he and his family were surrounded by different kinds of dangerous wildlife. Palmer, the American dentist, has been accused in an illegal hunt and kill that occurred just a few months ago in a national park located in Zimbabwe.
Long ago a lion named Leo was on a walk and thinking to himself that every lion looked the same you couldn’t tell them apart. So Leo the lion wanted to find a way to tell them apart.
The largest animal on earth is the African elephant. They grow to be ten to twelve feet tall at the shoulders. They may weigh six tons. That is about the same as what a big truck weighs. African elephants have three traits. They have large ears, long curved tusks, and flexible trunks. Their big ears help the elephants to keep cool. They move their ears back and forth like a fan. African elephants also use their ears for communication. Happiness and anger are two feelings they show. Male and female elephants have curved tusks that stick out of the sides of their mouths. The tusks may grow up to eight feet long. The elephants’ trunks are used for many purposes. They use them for breathing, for sucking up water, for smelling, and
Tigers are very talented Most tigers nocturnal. Tigers are the pro athletes in the animal world. Tigers are also great swimmers. And some types of tigers are able to jump on trees.
Wild Orangutans are commonly found in Asia within the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Borneo and Sumatra are two large tropical islands that are filled with trees that provide a home to these creatures as well as thousands of other species. Borneo is the third largest island in the world whereas Sumatra is only the sixth. Despite this, these two islands home more than 100,000 Orangutangs. In addition, these islands hold over 15,000 different kinds of plants and trees. The Orangutangs make these islands their home due to the presence of Palm Oil Trees. Orangutans mostly like to build their homes and nest in Palm Oil trees because they prefer to live up off of the ground so they are away from predators such as tigers. Additionally, the leaves are wide and provide them with somewhere to sit and sleep, they also provide food and maybe even something to play with. However, Orangutans are not the only ones who find this species of trees useful. Deforestation is not only wiping out trees but is also wiping out the Orangutan population for human resources.
Lions are facing trouble in the wild. In the text it says, "Some end up in zoos and circuses; others are sent to Asia, where their bones are used in folk medicine. Many are sold to lion breeders, where they are used to produce more cubs. The rest end up as trophies in what is known as 'canned hunts,' in which lions are placed in fenced-in areas and sometimes sedated to make them easier targets. Up to 1,000 lions are killed in these types of hunts every year." That is a big problem. Lions face extinction in the wild. The lions that are raised in captivity. The lions that are big and strong get killed. Some have to go to lion breeders or circuses. That means that the Lions are being abused by the humans that own them.
