Celeste Sotomayor as told by: I spoke with Jeff, as he showed me around the entire place. He sold his offset press almost 10 years ago, so he currently does all his printing digitally. He believes that he has a better product that is more consistent throughout the print run with a digital printer. If he needs some special treatment, like a varnish, he will print the entire print run at Cox Printing and then send it out to another industrial printer to place the varnish. This, of course, increases the time to do the job and the cost of the job. As I was talking to Jeff he was placing the cover on a book. She is completely self-taught, she states, but did take some basic design classes at the local community college. She told me a cute antidote about writing reports in Junior High. She didn’t have any Word program on their home computer, since her father, Jeff, also used it for work, so she learned to write all her reports in InDesign instead. Then she would add decorative elements to her reports using the program. She said she still is shaky when using Word, but InDesign is a “breeze”. He said that the blades need to be sharpened monthly, and he has three blades available so that he is never without a blade. The safety of this machine concerned me, since he kept sticking his arm and hands under the blade mechanism, but he explained that the blade can only be operated with two buttons pushed at the same time, which required two hands placed about two feet apart, so that there was never a chance that the blade would be
