Celiac disease is a genetic, immune disease that targets the small intestine and is triggered by the consumption of gluten. Gluten is a protein primarily found in foods such as wheat, rye, and barley. Additionally, gluten has been included into man-made products such as medicines, vitamins and supplements, lip balm, and the glue on the backs of stamps and envelopes. When eaten, these gluten products affect the immune system’s response leading to the deterioration of the small intestine (U.S. National Library of Medicine, 2015).
Individuals diagnosed with this disease experience symptoms differently, either developing symptoms in the digestive system or in other organ systems. Symptoms range from diarrhea and abdominal pain to irritability,
One health condition that affects people is Coeliac Disease; this is intolerance to the protein ‘gluten’ which is found in wheat, barley and rye. When coming into contact with gluten the body produces antibodies which then attack the lining of the bowel. This then affects the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from food and can even lead to
A 35-year-old male presents to the clinic with a long history of gas and flatulence, diarrhea and nausea after consuming milk or dairy products. Patient has a family history of celiac disease and therefore you advised the patient to be tested for Celiac disease. Which statement is correct regarding celiac disease testing?
Totalitarian leaders used propaganda to persuade followers to believe that their country would be restored again. Propaganda is when information deliberately spread to help or harm a person, group, or institution. This allows people to be pursued by the leaders and gives the leaders the advantages. In document C, poster created by the Nazi government in 1938, encourages Germans to vote for the annexation of Austria. In the poster you can see that their is hands in air showing that Germany is always united. In this poster, you can see that at the top there are some letters, these letter in English means United Germany. At the bottom the word “Ja!” means YES!. This means that the people are proud of their country. In document B, a speech by
Celiac disease is an enteropathy mediated by an autoimmune response to gluten, a protein complex found in the endosperm of wheat, barley, and rye.1 The immune response is triggered by both environmental and genetic factors in individuals susceptible to the disease resulting in elevated levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibodies to tissue transglutaminase (tTG), duodenal mucosal villi atrophy, and the inability of tight junctions to properly act as a barrier between the gastrointestinal tract and the systemic portion of the body.1
This is the cause of the illness of Celiac disease. 2. According to the Celiac Disease Foundation definition also known as the CDF, official disease foundation of 2018, “Celiac Disease is a serious autoimmune disorder that can occur in genetically predisposed people where the ingestion of gluten leads to the damage in the small intestine.” a. When people with disease eat gluten, their body reacts with an immune response that attacks the small intestines.
The level of respect and equality women in Egypt held was rarity of that time in comparison with other ancient societies. The women in ancient Greece were seen as property, with a sole purpose of childbearing. They were controlled by the male head of the family, expected to carry out domestic duties and stay silent, with no legal identity of their own. They were guarded at home by male chaperones and not allowed to leave the house without their heads covered and a minimum of three garments. Mesopotamian men were increasingly controlling of women over time, in order to protect the legitimacy of family heirs. Women were expected to be virgins at the time of marriage, and casual socializing among married men and women outside their homes was forbidden.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder affecting the gastrointestinal tract. People with celiac disease cannot eat foods with the gluten protein, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. If they eat foods with gluten, their
Celiac Disease (CD) is a digestive disease triggered and continued by the ingestion of gluten in the diet. Individuals with celiac disease have an irreversible intolerance to gluten. Celiac disease is also known as celiac sprue, nontropical sprue, and gluten-sensitive enteropathy. CD is considered an autoimmune disease. It is activated by eating gluten-containing foods. People who are genetically susceptible can experience varying degrees of lesions in the small bowel mucosa. The lesions can range from “mild intraepithelial lymphocytosis to severe mononuclear infiltration which can result in total villous atrophy”. (García-Manzanares,).
Celiac disease is often confused for an allergic illness because (like an allergy) it requires a foreign substance to trigger it. Usually diagnosed by a gastroenterologist, it is a digestive disease that can cause serious complications, including malnutrition and intestinal damage, if left untreated. Individuals with celiac disease must avoid gluten, found in wheat, rye, barley and sometimes oats. There seems to be a genetic predisposition to developing celiac disease, however not all people with a family history of celiac disease develop the condition. There is another reason, yet unknown, why the autoimmune response
Celiac disease (also known as celiac sprue or gluten-sensitive enteropathy) is a medical condition in which the body’s immune system is abnormally sensitive to gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley). Individuals who have celiac disease need to have a strict and lifelong gluten-free diet; if these individuals do not, inflammation of the intestines will occur. Because the immune system negatively reacts to gluten and attacks the body’s own tissues and organs, celiac disease is considered to be an autoimmune disorder which may cause a wide variety of signs and symptoms.
Celiac Disease affects the digestive system by the ingestion of gluten through foods like barley, rye, or wheat. Specific characteristics of this disease are weight loss, bloating, and in some cases diarrhea can even occur. Certain nourishment can be deprived from the brain and the liver as well eventually. For children, stomach pain can be an issue and vomiting may have a chance at occurring. The other signs and symptoms that come with celiac disease vary among person to person. However the most common are anemia which is iron deficiency, bone deficiency, itchy or blistering skin, and bad dental hygiene. Along with that celiac disease can also cause joint pain, headaches, fatigue, acid reflux, and spleen function that is greatly reduced. Chemically,
Celiac disease is a fairly common disease but is not very well known. Celiac disease, or celiac sprue, is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten (Hill, Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of celiac disease in children, 2011). Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and oats. People with celiac disease who eat foods containing gluten experience an immune reaction in their small intestines, causing damage to the inner surface of the small intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients (Hill, Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of celiac disease in children, 2011).
I am writing about celiac disease because I believe my friend had celiac disease but she did not know that she had it. Based on my research I know that celiac disease causes Flammation on muscles. I came to this conclusion after hearing her story. She was a violinist but freshmen year of college she got an injury on her arms. This injury made it hard for her to play violin again because she experience so much pain on her arm and fingers. So she decided to talk to people and continue with a therapy. Then one of her friend who is married to a doctor told her to stop eating gluten food and start gluten free food. She took the advice and started eating gluten free food. One first week of this new diet, did not do anything. She did not give up,
Celiac disease, which is also called coeliac disease, is a genetic autoimmune disease that injures the small intestine. Gluten is a protein that is in some wheat, barley, and rye. It is also a new fad diet and being gluten intolerant is something a majority of the population may claim. However, for those who really have celiac disease it is more serious. In fact, "Despite popular belief, celiac disease is a serious genetic autoimmune disease, not the latest fad diet", according to the organization Beyond Celiac(What is Celiac Disease, 2016). This article also gives a great explanation about what gluten does to the small intestine on a cellular level. The definition on the webpage goes on to include "When people with celiac disease eat foods containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging the finger-like villi of the small intestine. When the villi become damaged, the body is unable to absorb nutrients into the bloodstream, which can lead to malnourishment" (What is Celiac Disease, 2016). It also mentions that when celiac is left untreated, other autoimmune diseases are very common such as thyroid disease, osteoporosis and other cancers. Migraines, diabetes, and infertility are a few more illnesses that go hand in hand with celiac. (What is Celiac Disease, 2016).
Though the modern world is very sympathetic to the concept of human rights issues, death penalty as a form of capital punishment has still been in practice in the world. During 2001, at least 3048 people were executed in 31 countries as well as at least 5265 people were sentenced to death in 68 countries. It is very interesting to see that some advanced countries, which are pioneer to the protection and promotion of human rights and also very vocal to the human rights situation in the developing world, do impose death penalty, even on children.
